Abstract

The development of tourist villages aims to engage the community in the management of tourist destinations and improve their standard of living. The participation of the community, the authentic character of natural attractions, socio-cultural life, and the environment, referred to as local wisdom, provide opportunities for sustainable tourism development. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the interest of the local community in developing attractions, amenities, and tourist accessibility that are complex, flexible, and based on local wisdom, which is a key aspect of tourism development. One of the tourist villages that has diverse local wisdom is Samosir. This study aims to explore and understand the existence of local wisdom found in attractions as strategies for sustainable tourism development. This research is a descriptive-evaluative study with a qualitative approach. Data collection methods in the study were conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with informants sequentially and using snowball sampling. Data analysis was carried out step by step, starting from data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Group discussions, triangulation of techniques, and sources were conducted to ensure data credibility. The results of the study indicate a number of local wisdom in the form of attractions that are very rare or even never done. Some cultural heritage is even in an unmaintained condition. The research emphasizes the necessity of increasing local community interest in developing attractions that are multifaceted and rooted in local wisdom. This approach is deemed essential for sustainable tourism development.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan partisipasi masyarakat lokal dalam pengelolaan pariwisata berkelanjutan di Desa Durian Lingga, Kabupaten Langkat, Sumatera Utara. Desa ini memiliki potensi alam yang besar, terutama Pemandian Alam Namu Sira-Sira, namun menghadapi kendala seperti infrastruktur jalan yang terbatas dan kurangnya fasilitas pendukung. Selain itu, pemahaman masyarakat mengenai pariwisata berkelanjutan masih minim. Menggunakan metodologi penelitian tindakan masyarakat, yang melibatkan 20 responden lokal , program ini menerapkan siklus berulang yang terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Intervensi utama mencakup serangkaian kegiatan edukatif dan praktis, dimulai dengan ceramah oleh ahli pariwisata mengenai konsep sadar wisata dan kebersihan. Hasilnya, terjadi peningkatan pemahaman yang signifikan, terbukti dari perbandingan skor pre-test dan post-test peserta yang menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 15 poin. Program ini berhasil mengimplementasikan berbagai inisiatif nyata, seperti pembentukan "Pojok Literasi Lingkungan" yang menyediakan materi edukasi tentang pengelolaan sampah, konservasi, dan pariwisata berkelanjutan. Selain itu, kegiatan penanaman 50 pohon, termasuk pohon buah-buahan, berhasil dilakukan di sekitar pemandian untuk mendukung pemulihan ekosistem dan menciptakan lingkungan yang lebih sejuk. Untuk meningkatkan profesionalisme pengelolaan, dibentuklah tim pengelola wisata yang melibatkan perwakilan masyarakat, pengelola, dan dosen dari Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) sebagai dewan ahli. Tim ini kemudian menyusun dan menerapkan Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) yang mencakup pengelolaan lingkungan, pelayanan pengunjung, dan promosi. Melalui penyuluhan, masyarakat dan pengelola dilatih untuk memahami dan melaksanakan SOP ini, yang meningkatkan kapasitas mereka dalam menjalankan pariwisata secara sistematis. Program ini juga memberikan dukungan berupa fasilitas seperti buku literasi, alat kebersihan (sapu lidi, serokan, tempat sampah), dan bibit tanaman untuk menunjang upaya pelestarian lingkungan. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendekatan kolaboratif yang terstruktur berhasil memberdayakan masyarakat lokal untuk mengelola pariwisata secara berkelanjutan, yang tidak hanya memberikan manfaat ekonomi, tetapi juga menjaga kelestarian alam dan budaya setempat

Abstract

In tourism development, community participation is very important. Community participation does not just appear but must start from the correct perception of tourism. The local community, with all their perceptions about tourism management, have already been involved in tourism management. The aim of the research is: 1) to find out the local people's perception to the principal tourism destination management 2) to find out the model of sustainable tourism development in Simanindo District, Samosir Regency. The type of research is social survey and descriptive-quantitative. The technique used in sampling is the Franc Lynch method, with a sample of 95 people as respondents, aged 15-64 years was obtained. The data type used represents primary by using a questionnaire with a Likert scale in each question. Data analysis techniques were using value perception and multiple regression analysis. The result from this research showed: 1) The percentage of the average value of the independent variable is 85%, this means that the perception of the local community on the principles of managing Lake Toba tourist destinations are in positive or good areas 2) Sustainable tourism development has a positive relationship and is influenced simultaneously by service, attraction, human resources, environment, and participation. Therefore, the model of sustainable tourism development should be stressed on the attraction and the human resource in the Simanindo District.   Keywords: Community tourism development, sustainable community, sustainable tourism.
