Abstract

Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common prostatic disease inmen. Multiple factors influence the pathogenesis of BPH, and one of them is obesity. Variousstudies about the correlation between obesity and prostate volume show inconsistent results. Some studies reported that obesity correlates with prostate volume, whereas others didn't findthe correlation between obesity and prostate volume. Therefore, this study aims to find thecorrelation between obesity and prostate volume. Purpose: To find the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and BPH patients'prostate volume. Methods: BMI was measured by BMI formula, and prostate volume was measured bytransabdominal ultrasound (TAUS). This study was conducted in RSUD Ibnu SinaKabupaten Gresik by looking at medical records in January 2016-September 2017. This studywas an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. This study uses LinearRegression Test to analyze the correlation of in-between variables. This study's populationwas patients with a diagnosis of BPH that undergo hospitalization in RSUD Ibnu Sina (273medical records). The study sample that corresponding to inclusion and exclusion criteria are27 medical records. Result: The average prostate volume in underweight criteria was 44,5 cm3, in normal criteriais 42,4 cm3. Highest average of prostate volume found in overweight criteria, which was 64,3cm3. In the obese criteria, the average prostate volume was 32,2 cm3. The average prostatevolume was 46,0 cm3. From the linear regression test, we found the value of p=0,881 andR2=0,01. Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between BMI and prostate volume in thisstudy

Abstract

Background: Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by obligate intracellular Mycobacterium leprae, impacting public health. Leprosy causes deformity, and disability can lead to ulcer disease. Nerve involvement is essential in the emergence of ulcers on the feet, including in neuropathic ulcers. Neuropathic ulcers can be found on the soles of the feet and are often called plantar ulcers. The slow healing process of the ulcer will cause the plantar ulcer to become chronic. Purpose: To evaluate the characteristics of leprosy patients with and without plantar ulcers at the Leprosy Division of Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Clinic of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, 2015-2019. Methods: A retrospective study were conducted by examining medical records for five years (2015-2019) at the Leprosy Division of Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Clinic of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya. Results: A total of 511 patients met inclusion criteria. In leprosy patients without plantar ulcers group, the characteristics were male (68%), female (32%), aged 26-35 years (25.4%), paucibacillary (8.1%) and multibacillary (91.8%), patients without leprosy reactions (58%), and patients under treatment (49%). In leprosy patients with plantar ulcers group, the characteristics were male (64.3%), female (35.7%), aged 26-35 years (31%), multibacillary (92.9%), patients without leprosy reactions (61.9%), patients in the RFT category (76%), the ulcer duration group with highest prevalence rate 1-6 months (38.1%), and the most common location of plantar ulcers was on the forefoot (95.2%). Conclusion: Leprosy without plantar ulcers was more common than leprosy with plantar ulcers, mostly in male, dominated in the 26-35 years old for patients leprosy without plantar ulcers, type MB (multibacillary) was most history of leprosy type. Leprosy without reaction was common in leprosy patients with and without plantar ulcers. Patients without plantar ulcers majority was MDTL therapy, patients with plantar ulcers was common RFT (Release From Treatment).

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease-19 (Covid-19) is an infectious disease that has become a pandemic since March 11, 2020. PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) swab is a definitive diagnostic tool for Covid-19, because it has a high level of sensitivity and specificity. One of the symptoms of this infection is anosmia. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the symptoms of anosmia and the positive RT-PCR swab results in Covid-19 diagnostics. This study used a systematic review and meta-analysis method that was in accordance with PRISMA. From 16 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, we selected 12 articles through EPHPP that reported smell disorder among Covid-19 patients. Four reports studied whether smell disorder was independently associated with Covid-19 diagnosis. The frequency of anosmia ranged between 7,5-95%. Anosmia has high specificity for detecting Covid-19 but has low sensitivity. There was a strong relationship between anosmia symptoms and positive RT-PCR swab results. This showed that anosmia can be a marker for patients to carry out further investigations.

Abstract

Highlights: Due to the increasing elderly population in Indonesia, this study must address the knowledge and skill gaps among health cadres in a number of Integrated Health Posts for the Elderly (Pos Layanan Terpadu Lanjut Usia/ Posyandu Lansia). Through this study, the health cadres increased their knowledge and skills, enabling them to provide comprehensive health services for the elderly. Abstract Numerous issues have arisen as a result of the large size and rapid growth of the elderly population, attesting to the need for serious efforts from all sectors to enhance their welfare. However, the health cadres at the Integrated Health Post for the Elderly (Pos Layanan Terpadu Lanjut Usia/ Posyandu Lansia) lacked the training that would have equipped them with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their duties. This study aimed to evaluate the significance of training for enhancing the cadres' knowledge and skills in providing comprehensive health services for the elderly. This study was quasi-experimental research with a pre-test and post-test design. The data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test (p>0.05) and the Wilcoxon test (p<0.05). A total of 30 health cadres at Songgon Community Health Center were measured for their levels of knowledge and skills before and after the training. The training included filling out health evaluation charts, providing leaflets containing health counseling materials for the elderly, practicing exercise for the elderly, and singing an elderly marching song. Before filling out the health evaluation chart, the cadres had to measure the elderly's degree of independence as well as their mental, emotional, and nutritional status. The cadres also had to measure the weight, height, and blood pressure of the elderly. Prior to training, the cadres' knowledge of hospitalization referrals, independence, and physical exercise for the elderly was limited. The cadres' skills in filling out health evaluation charts, assessing mental, emotional, and nutritional status, measuring blood pressure, and instructing physical exercise were also inadequate. There was a significant difference in the knowledge and skills of the health cadres before and after training (p<0.05). In conclusion, there was an improvement in the health cadres' knowledge and skills regarding comprehensive health services for the elderly at the Posyandu Lansia.

Abstract

Highlights: Various distributions of dermatomes in HZ patients and the correlations between dermatomes and the history of other diseases. There was a correlation between dermatome location and hypertension as a comorbid disease in HZ patients.   Abstract Introduction: Herpes zoster (HZ) can occur when the varicella-zoster virus, which infects the spinal nerves and causes dermatomal injury, reactivates in individuals who have previously had varicella and have healed. This study aimed to identify the risk factors and clinical consequences of HZ among patients at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Clinic, Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, from 2012 to 2014, in order to support the development of improved preventive strategies and reduce the prevalence of HZ. Methods: This retrospective study used the medical records of 138 HZ patients (n=138). This study employed both descriptive and analytical research methods. The Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact tests were used in the bivariate analysis. The International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.0 was used to analyze the results, and the results were displayed as tables and charts. Results: Of 138 HZ patients, none had complications. Symptoms of HZ, which were more common among females aged 51 to 60 years old, included burning and pain in the left part of the body (40.58%) and the thoracic dermatome (41%). Most efflorescence (37.2%) belonged to grouped vesicles. Most other disease histories were varicella (53.49%). Correlation test results indicated that dermatome location, sex, symptoms, and a history of other diseases were not associated with efflorescence or age (p>0.05). Nonetheless, there was a connection between hypertension and the dermatome location (p=0.008 <0.05). Conclusion: Herpes zoster was more common among females aged 51 to 60 years. Symptoms included discomfort and a burning sensation encircling the lesion in the left thoracal dermatomal region. The majority of patients had a prior varicella infection. Hypertension and dermatome location were correlated.
