Abstract

Family responsibilities can impact workers’ employment relationships. These circumstances may lead to conflicts of interest between the dualities of working obligations and family duties. Workers might face discrimination, lower wages, delayed promotions, or other adverse outcomes because their employers perceive their responsibilities as secondary. Such challenges can affect all workers, particularly women, who are traditionally seen as the primary caregivers in the family. Employment relations are undergoing a shift in how workers carry out their duties. The emergence of working activities includes using digital platforms and alternatively creating working systems. This Digital Workplace trend involves completing tasks on digital platforms such as email, social media, or cloud systems. With this shift, workers can no longer attend the office in person. This research posits that the emergence of the digital workplace addresses cultural roles within families, especially with flexible working hours and informal work settings. On the other hand, the stakeholders may need to address several issues, including the uncertainty surrounding labor protections, encompassing workplace exploitation and fairness concerns. Therefore, this article argues the condition of women in the digital workplace, specifically by the lack of regulations that might have insights to recognize the value of women’s roles in the family, particularly by the uncertainty of digital platforms that change the landscape of the working system.   Keywords: Digital Workplace, Family, Labour Law, Women, Workers

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the protection of female workers against possible discrimination due to using AI in implementing employment relations. This is normative research with a conceptual approach conducted through a secondary data literature study. The result shows that some things which can be done to protect female workers from discrimination in the AI era are: (1) transformation of job training regulation that facilitates female workers in STEM fields to support readiness for use; (2) regulate the use of AI in programs related to career paths, calculation of wages, benefits, and compensation; (3) Transformation of the regulation of the use of collective labour agreements by worker unions to fight for the protection of female workers in the AI era in; (4) stipulate ethical regulation of technology; and (5) setting restrictions on the use of AI by analogy similarly with the use of foreign workers.

Abstract

Platform workers who work through digital applications such as online transportation and delivery services are growing in Indonesia, but their legal status is still unclear. The incompatibility between the platform's work model and conventional labor regulations results in platform workers not receiving legal protection, social security, or recognition of formal employment relationships. This article examines these problems using normative legal research methods and comparative approaches by comparing the Indonesian legal system with Singapore's policies through the Platform Workers Act 2024. The legal materials include laws and regulations, jurisprudence, and related literature. The study results show that Indonesia still relies on inadequate partial regulation to address the protection needs of platform workers. At the same time, Singapore has taken a progressive step by recognizing the status of platform workers as a separate legal entity with fundamental rights, such as social security, the right to form associations, protection against work injuries, and income transparency. The novel finding of this study lies in identifying the hybrid employment model as a feasible and legally sound framework to bridge the gap between full-time employment and independent contracting in Indonesia. This model not only aligns with Singapore’s adaptive regulatory approach but also offers a policy blueprint for equitable protection without undermining digital innovation. The broader implication is clear: without a comprehensive legal reform that institutionalizes hybrid employment, Indonesia risks entrenching a two-tier labor system that perpetuates inequality within its rapidly expanding digital economy.

Abstract

This article aims to reflect on whether labor law relates to handling environmental damage and global warming issues, also becoming an alternative tool to solve those issues. The main reason for the reflection is that labor law and environmental law have the same actor, entrepreneurs as employers, with their companies. This article is written with a conceptual approach to employers and their companies' activities in both labor and environmental law concepts. The reflection shows that labor law has a strategic position in economic activities, which could be a way to solve environmental damage and global warming issues because of employers and their companies' production process. Labor law could solve the issues: First, laws about environmental protection and occupational health and security management systems should be integrated. Second, the authorization of the Company Regulation and Compulsory Company Manpower Report mechanism should be used to control whether employers obey and fulfil environmental protection laws. Third, the Workers' Union/Laborers' Union's voice and movement in environmental protection relating to companies as workplaces should be utilized. Fourth, support work-from-home and digital workplace trends as an alternative choice that is environmentally friendly because it decreases traffic for workers who use their personal vehicles to go to and back from their workplaces.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is a required academic activity in the curriculum of every study program at Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta with a weight of 2 credits. The implementation of KKN in the odd semester of the 2020/2021 Academic Year (KKN 78) uses the Community KKN 5.0 model without field dropping the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. KKN started from October to November 2020. The distribution of locations KKN 78 are Kulon Progo and Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta Special Region Province. In its implementation, Units H Group 37 are located in Ngloro Village, Saptosari District, Gunungkidul. At the macro level, villages have two main potentials in the cultural and economic fields. Based on the results of observations, this village has had various training programs for the manufacture of products in the village such as food processing, in the form of cassava chips and banana chips. However, this activity has constraints on the marketing of the resulting product so it requires a marketing strategy. The purpose of KKN according to this group is to provide information on how to market processed products so that they are able to compete with other products. The compilation of KKN outcomes is carried out by collecting (secondary) data, and presenting qualitative reports that are descriptive-analysis in nature. The resulting output is a mapping of village potential which is later revealed to be e-books, pocket books and videos related to villages, village potentials and product marketing strategies.

Abstract

Desa Giring is one of the many villages in Paliyan District, Gunungkidul which has a lot of potentials that can be developed further. The village potential includes traditional culture, agricultural and livestock products, as well as tourist objects. In its development efforts, it is necessary to introduce this potential to the wider community in order to attract tourists, thereby increasing the activities of the tourism sector. In addition, considering the potential for natural disasters that may occur in Desa Giring, an educational effort to the public about natural disaster prevention and precaution measures are deemed necessary by making pocketbooks as a medium of information. Data collection in the form of Desa Giring profiles, village potentials, and ways of dealing with natural disasters was carried out by means of literature studies through journals, articles, and the internet. The results of the literature study in the form of information findings and theoretical studies are then compiled in the form of videos and e-books. The output of the first work program, namely the e-book and video of Potensi Desa Giring which discusses the potentials in the village, while the output of the second work program, namely e-books and videos of the Buku Saku Desa Tanggap dan Sigap Bencana, which discusses prevention and precaution measures of natural disasters that have the potential to occur in Desa Giring. Hopefully,  the two outputs of the programs can be used in future village development activities and give insight into how to do natural disaster prevention and precaution.
