Abstract

Caries is a dental problem that is most often found in elementary school-age children, dental caries experienced by children is closely related to the role of parents, the role of the mother is so important in maintaining dental and oral health in schoolage children. The prevalence of caries in the 5-9 years age group was 92.6% and in the 10-14 years age group the caries prevalence was 73.4%. This study aims to determine the role of the mother in the family to prevent child caries and DMF-T rate. The research design used in this study was cross-sectional quantitative analysis using a survey method with a total sample of 70 people using a total sampling technique. The results of this study show that the role of the mother with the DMF-T rate shows that the mother has a good role with a moderate caries rate of 17 respondents with a percentage (24%). The role of the mother is classified as good because the mother fully facilitates the child's needs for the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and mouth. From this study it can be concluded that family support, in this case the role of the mother, is very important for the DMF-T rate of elementary school children.

Abstract

ABSTRACT 58.33% of children aged 5-9 years have tooth decay/cavities/pain, this is due to bad behavior in maintaining dental health. Early age is an age that is vulnerable to dental and oral health problems due to lack of knowledge and bad habits in maintaining dental and oral health. In the modern era, technological developments are developing very rapidly in everyday life, especially in the health sector. One of the media used is the Nana Tooth Island game which introduces how to maintain healthy teeth and mouth in children. This study aims to determine the effect of using the media game Nana Tooth Island on knowledge of how to maintain dental health. The research method is a quasi-experimental or simple experiment with a pre-test and post-test design, namely carrying out the same treatment or intervention for a sample group by comparing the results obtained before and after the treatment of 30 students with porposive non- random sampling. A paired sample test was carried out to find out the effect of knowledge using the Nana Tooth Island game media. The results of this study note that the average knowledge before being given using the Nana Tooth Island game media on students' knowledge of how to maintain dental health is 6.53. While the average knowledge after being given using the Nana Tooth Island game media to students' knowledge of how to maintain healthy teeth is equal to 7.90. So there is an average difference of -1.367. After testing, the probability is 0.00 (<0.05), which means that Ho is rejected, while Ha is accepted, meaning it is significant or influential. The conclusion from this study is that the use of the Nana Tooth Island game media has an effect on knowledge of how to maintain healthy teeth.  Keywords: Nana Tooth Island Game, Knowledge, Dental Health  ABSTRAK Anak usia 5-9 tahun 58,33% memiliki masalah gigi rusak/berlubang/sakit, ini disebabkan perilaku yang buruk dalam memelihara kesehatan gigi. Abstract

Abstract

The family environment, especially parents, plays a very big role in developing positive behavior towards dental and oral health. Parental involvement in developing positive behavioral patterns in maintaining oral health is implemented in their children in daily life, both directly and indirectly. The way to improve dental and oral health is for parents to pay attention to children's behavior regarding dental health and children's eating patterns that consume little cariogenic food. The aim of this research is to determine the role of parents in maintaining children's dental and oral health at Abdi Agape Elementary School. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The total population was 260 parents using a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling with the Slovin formula, namely 72 respondents. The results of this study show that parents who carry out their role in maintaining children's dental and oral health are in the good category for the role of parents in regulating food diet as much as 88.89%, the good category for brushing children's teeth as much as 76.39%, and the bad category for brushing children's teeth. control of children's dental health was 51.39%. This research can be concluded that the majority of parents' role in maintaining children's dental and oral health in the role of parents in regulating food diet and the role of parents in brushing children's teeth have good criteria. Then the role of parents in controlling children's dental health has poor criteria. Keyword : Role of Parents, Maintaining Children’s, Dental and Oral Health

Abstract

Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is a crucial antibody originating in mucosal lymphoid tissue, actively distributed across the epithelium. It plays a vital role in binding to and neutralizing microbes that threaten organisms through mucosal organs, thereby contributing to mucosal or secretory immunity. This research aims to determine the Cytotoxicity of Sodium Bicarbonate Solution to Human Gingival Fibroblast Cells.  The research method used to investigate the safety and efficacy of various sodium bicarbonate concentrations, we conducted a laboratory experimental study utilizing a post-test-only control group design. Sodium bicarbonate solutions with concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3.5%, 7%, 10%, 15%, and 20% were tested. The results of the study using analysis through ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD revealed that solutions with concentrations of 20%, 15%, and 10% exhibited comparable non-toxicity to fibroblast cells, as they shared the same column. In contrast, concentrations of 7%, 3.5%, 2%, and 1% were found to have toxicity levels that exceeded the IC50 threshold. Further examination using the Tukey HSD test showed that the 2% and 3.5% concentration groups did not show significant differences. In conclusion, the Sodium bicarbonate solutions with concentrations of 7%, 3.5%, 2%, and 1% are not toxic to fibroblast cells and can be used as a basis for further research applications based on sodium bicarbonate materials. It is recommended for future studies to conduct further examinations with different concentrations.

Abstract

The province of West Kalimantan has an area of 146,807 km² with an individual DMF-T Index of 6.2, meaning that on average its population experiences 6–7 dental health problems such as cavities, teeth extracted due to caries, and previously filled teeth that remain in good condition (West Kalimantan Provincial Health Office, 2017). In Sanggau Regency, based on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), 48.43% of the population experienced cavities/toothache, 23.73% had teeth extracted or lost on their own, only 3.0% received dental fillings, and 12.75% had loose teeth. Research by Rusmali et al. (2023) reported the following findings: OHI-s status 15.7%, toothbrushing behavior 15%, and the influence of dental and oral hygiene on age at 21.3%, with significance values of 0.032 < 0.05 and 0.00 < 0.05. This study aimed to describe and analyze the relationship between age and dental and oral health factors among the community in Tayan Hilir District, Sanggau Regency, in 2025, using quantitative and qualitative methods, random sampling, survey sheets and questionnaires, and univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses with Regression and Correlation tests. The results showed that 59.4% of respondents brushed their teeth twice a day, the average dental and oral hygiene status (OHI-s) was moderate at 53.8%, the R value (0.168) approached 1, and R² (0.23) indicated that age accounted for 23% of the variation in dental health factors. The study concluded that the relationship between age and dental health factors was 23%, indicating a strong correlation.
