The role of the mother is classified as good because the mother fully facilitates the child's needs for the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and mouth. From this study it can be concluded that family support, in this case the role of the mother, is very important for the DMF-T rate of elementary school children.

Abstract

Dental and oral health is a crucial aspect of overall health that affects an individual’s quality of life. Based on Health Law No. 36 of 2009 and various literature, the importance of dental and oral care is often not well understood by the public, especially elementary school children. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of dental and oral health education using collage media for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 09 Pemangkat. This study employs a quasi-experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. It measures students’ knowledge about dental and oral health care before and after receiving education using collage media. The study sample consisted of fourth-grade students who were given a pretest before the education and a posttest after the education. The results show that before the education, 33.3% of students had insufficient knowledge, 67.7% were in the moderate category, and no students were in the good category. After the education, students' knowledge improved with 3.3% in the insufficient category, 36.7% in the moderate category, and 60.0% in the good category. The average knowledge score of students before the education was 23.4, while it increased to 19.6 after the education. This study indicates that education using collage media is effective in enhancing students’ knowledge about dental and oral health care. Therefore, this method can be integrated into school health education programs as an effort to increase children's awareness and understanding of the importance of maintaining dental and oral health.

Abstract

Pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr) is a fruit that contains water and fiber as well as bromelin enzyme as an antibacterial. Dental and oral health is part of overall body health and cannot be separated from general body health. Based on this background, this study aims to find out more about the benefits of pineapple fruit for oral health. This study uses the study literature review method, namely the method of collecting and tracing bibliographical data, textbooks, journals, scientific articles, and literature reviews related to the discussion to be studied. The results showed pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr). Some of these ingredients have been known to inhibit bacterial growth through disruption of protein biosynthesis, nucleic acid metabolism, and inhibition of enzyme activity such as glucosyltransferases. These materials can also inhibit bacteria from producing acid, synthesizing exopolysaccharides and bacterial attachment. Based on the research results, the content of pineapple fruit solution (Ananas comosus L. Merr) contains citric acid and phenolic compounds which are antibacterial.Pineapple consumption can reduce dental plaque, Streptococcus sp bacteria, and increase salivary pH.

Abstract

Teeth discoloration is a problem of dental aesthetic disorders. If the color of the teeth is yellow, brownish, blackish will make a person's loss of self-confidence. Stains are stainings that adhere to the surface of teeth as a result of consuming colored drinks and foods. Coffee contains tannin compounds that contain dyestuffs so that it easily affects teeth discoloration. Eating coffee is a favorite behavior in today's teenagers. The health status of the teeth and mouth is also influenced by behavior, if bad behavior the impact on dental health will also be bad, and vice versa. The behavior of a person can be formed from the factor of knowledge. Lack of knowledge can shape erroneous behaviors and attitudes. This study aims to determine adolescents' knowledge about the effect of coffee on changes in tooth color (stain) and the relationship between knowledge and behavior of consuming coffee in adolescents. The research method uses a descriptive quantitative method of analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects of this study were 47 teenagers who were in a pontianak folk coffee shop. The results of the knowledge research of respondents before being given counseling were in the category of less than 35 people (74.5%), while the criteria for respondents' behavior were included in the bad category as many as 42 people (89.4%). The results of data analysis using the spearman test obtained a p value of 0.000 (<0.005) which showed that there was a correlation between knowledge and behavior in adolescents with a coefficient value of 0.633. The conclusion of this study is that adolescents are still lacking in understanding the causes that can cause discoloration in teeth (stains), one of which is coffee and there is a strong correlation between knowledge and behavior.
