Abstract

According to information released by the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2022, 28% of Indonesia’s population suffered from cholesterol, and the condition claimed the lives of about 7.9% of all individuals worldwide. The use of medication from chemicals can cause side effects on the body, so alternative medicine from natural ingredients is needed, one of which is using a combination of soursop leaves and fruit. In this study, mice were divided into five groups: a negative control group, a positive control group and three treatment groups. The combination therapy given to each treatment group, except a negative control group consisted of boiled soursop leaves and fruit in the following ratios: 1:2, 1:1, and 2:1. The method of determination cholesterol was using immunochromatography test. The study’s findings demonstrated that the group receiving therapy in a ratio of 1:1 and 1:2 was not effective in lowering cholesterol as the group that received boiled soursop leaves and fruit in a ratio of 2:1. A statistical tests emplioyng paired T-tests revealed a significant change (p < 0.05) in cholesterol levels between pre- and post-treatment. This research support the SDGs program, namely good health well-being by utilizing soursop leaves and fruit to reduce cholesterol levels.

Abstract

Dengue fever is an endemic arbovirus disease that often causes morbidity and mortality. Rapid and appropriate treatment of dengue fever can be done if a rapid and specific test during the acute phase of infection can be done. An examination that has been developed is the dengue non-structural antigen (NS1) examination which can detect dengue virus infection earlier. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between clinical signs and symptoms with NS1 examination results in patients suspected of dengue fever at the Sukodadi Health Center. The type of research is descriptive analytical with a cross-sectional approach to 86 patients at the Sukodadi Health Center, Lamongan Regency using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out on patient medical records based on the results of clinical signs and symptoms of the examination and the results of the NS1 examination. The collected data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test, with a significance level of p <0.05. The results of the study showed that most patients (72.1%) were diagnosed with suspected dengue fever, most (79.1%) had negative NS1 examination results, and the Chi-Square test results obtained x count = 8.812, and p = 0.003 (<0.05), then H0 was rejected, meaning that there was a relationship between clinical signs and symptoms with NS1 examination results in patients with suspected dengue fever. The conclusion of this study is there is a significant relationship between clinical signs and symptoms with NS1 examination results in patients with suspected dengue fever

Abstract

Aedes aegypti is a vector of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). DHF is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito which carries the virus in its body. Mosquito eradication can use natural insecticides derived from natural agent such as plants metabolites that are toxic to insects. Kayu Jawa leaf (Lannea coromandelica) is a wild plant that is easy to find. Kayu jawa leaves contain secondary metabolites such as saponins, flavonoids, polyphenols and tannins which has insecticide activity. This research was an experimental test using kayu jawa leaves (L. coromandelica) decoction at 20%, 40%, 60% and 100% to eradicate A. aegypti. Test results show that 100 % concentration of L. coromandelica leaves decoction has the greatest activity to eradicate A. aegypti. The lowest activity shown in 20% concentration. This is due to the performance of secondary metabolite compounds from L. coromandelica leaves. The conclusion of this research is L. coromandelica has an activity as an A. aegyti insecticides.

Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is a condition of decreased health quality that is susceptible to adolescent girls. Someone who has a BMI below normal has a risk of iron metabolism disorders due to indications of low micronutrient intake. Iron deficiency causes low hemoglobin levels because iron is an important substance in the hemoglobin molecule. Hct examination is carried out as a simple screening for anemia and accompanies the results of the Hb examination to prove the level of accuracy of the diagnosis. This study aims to investigate the relationship between BMI and hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in adolescents in a population in the Kalianget Health Center area with the sample determined being female students at SMA Negeri 1 Kalianget, Sumenep. The design used in this study was analytical with a cross-sectional approach. Capillary blood sampling of 96 female students was carried out using the POCT method to measure Hb and Hct. In this study, a bivariate analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and Hb and Hct using the chi square test. The results of the Chi-square test analysis, a p value of 0.000 <0.05 was obtained for the relationship between BMI and Hb and a p value of 0.001 <0.05 for the relationship between BMI and Hct. Conclusion of this research is There is a relationship between BMI and Hb and Hct of students at SMAN 1 Kalianget.

Abstract

The effect of electric cigarettes (e-cigs) on health should be a concern since their legality has occurred in Indonesia. Young adults use e-cigarettes not as therapy but as a lifestyle. The vapor component contains propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavor, and nicotine, which may harm human health. This study examined the health risks of e-cigarettes on body weight, erythrocytes, and sperm morphology in mice. We used twenty healthy male mice exposed to the cigarette's vapor for thirty days. Mice were divided into room air as the negative control, nicotine-free, and 18 mg nicotine-containing groups. Our results showed that the body weight of the nicotine-free and nicotine-containing groups increased, while micronuclei formation increased after e-cig exposure. Furthermore, abnormal sperm morphology in the nicotine-containing groups increased significantly, yet the nicotine-free group was not significantly different compared to the negative control. These results were supported by the molecular prediction that exposure to e-cigs might increase oxidative stress and decrease the expression of TGF-β. Moreover, studies on it are ongoing to gather scientific evidence.

Abstract

The skin serves as the body's outer protection against infection and plays an important role in water and electrolyte balance. The skin is often injured which increases the risk of infection if the wound does not close immediately. This study explored the potential of concentrated extract of Sargassum plagyophyllum in healing incision wounds in mice. Mice were given a 1 cm incision wound and then given CaCl2 S. plagyophyllum extract as the treatment group, povidine iodine as the positive control group, while the negative control group was not given anything. Macroscopic results showed that the wounds in the treatment group healed on day 17, while the negative and positive groups healed on days 15 and 16. Microscopic images showed that the inflammatory phase of wound healing was seen on day five in all groups which showed a normal phase of wound healing. These results indicate that the CaCl2 extract of S. plagyophyllum has the same potency as the positive group, but it is very important to consider the right formulation so that the effectiveness can be increased and faster in wound healing in future studies.

Abstract

The increase in the elderly population poses challenges to health services in Indonesia, particularly regarding degenerative diseases and malnutrition due to reduced physical activity and dietary changes. Supporting the Asta Cita program for elderly assistance, it is essential to monitor elderly health to maintain wellness and functionality in old age. This study used descriptive analytical observation on 25 women aged 55 to 75 years. Results showed that hemoglobin levels declined below the normal range of 12–15 g/dL. Serum iron levels and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme activity were measured using a spectrophotometer to assess anemia potential, while immune status was evaluated through vitamin D levels by immunofluorescence. Statistical analysis with SPSS software using Spearman’s correlation test revealed no significant relationships between hemoglobin and serum iron (p = 0.520), hemoglobin and LDH (p = 0.615), or serum iron with LDH (p = 0.543) and vitamin D (p = 0.138). Pearson correlation showed no association between hemoglobin and vitamin D (p = 0.885). These findings indicate weak or no correlation among these parameters in this sample. Factors such as small sample size and measurement limitations suggest that using more precise biomarkers, like Ferritin levels, could improve future research. This study contributes to understanding Prevention of Iron Deficiency Anemia Through Blood Immunochemical Detection in Improving the Quality of Life of Elderly—a valuable approach to elderly health monitoring.
