Abstract

This study aims to analyze parental communication patterns and their impact on the social development of early childhood. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Research informants consisted of parents of early childhood children and teachers as data support. Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that parental communication patterns have a significant influence on children's social development. Democratic communication patterns have been shown to support children in becoming self-confident, sociable, cooperative, and empathetic. Conversely, authoritarian communication patterns make children tend to be obedient but passive, while permissive patterns result in children who lack discipline and have difficulty sharing. Mixed communication patterns indicate inconsistent social development. In addition, nonverbal forms of communication (such as hugs, facial expressions, eye contact) play an important role in building a child's sense of security. This study emphasizes the importance of quality communication within the family to support the social development of early childhood in the digital era.

Abstract

Abstract: The issues of bullying and limited sexual education literacy among elementary school children often lead to various challenges. This activity aims to determine the effectiveness of anti-bullying socialization and early childhood sexual education for students in elementary schools. The activity results, in the form of a pre-test and post-test, were analyzed quantitatively using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. 127 students from SD IT Anak Sholeh participated in the program. The findings revealed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results (Z = -9.300; p = 0.000 < 0.05). Of the participants, 122 students demonstrated improved understanding, five showed a decline, and none remained unchanged. Overall, the results suggest that anti-bullying socialization and early sexual education play an essential role in fostering children’s character development. However, differences in individual comprehension and external influences such as school culture and peer interactions were observed. In addition to the increase in quantity, participants showed high enthusiasm and commitment to internalizing positive character in everyday interactions.

Abstract

Background: Academic pressure among students has become a significant psychological concern, particularly in cultures where academic success is closely linked to personal worth and social recognition. In such environments, strong parental expectations may be internalized as conditions of worth, leading individuals to believe they are valued only when they meet specific standards. This internalization can create incongruence between the real self and the ideal self, which often manifests as anxiety, perfectionism, low self-esteem, and social withdrawal. Objective: This study aims to examine the formation of internalised conditions of worth and to analyze how Person-Centred Therapy (PCT) facilitates psychological recovery and self-concept reconstruction. Method: The study employed a qualitative, single-case study design with a high school student experiencing social alienation and achievement-contingent self-worth. Data were collected through semi-structured counseling interviews, classroom observations, and psychological assessments, and analysed using thematic analysis to identify patterns related to self-concept and family expectations. Result: The findings revealed that conditional acceptance related to academic achievement contributed to a fragile self-concept and social withdrawal. Through empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard, PCT supported emotional openness and reduced self-criticism. Conclusion: Person-Centred Therapy effectively facilitated self-acceptance and reduced social alienation. Contribution: This study provides practical insight for school counseling interventions addressing conditional self-worth among students.
