Abstract

This research was conducted to explore Heathcliff in Emily Brontë?s Wuthering Heights novel psychologically. The researcher was aimed to find out the factors which contributed to the development of Heathcliff?s neurosis and to reveal the neurotic trends that appear in Heathcliff as he attempts to fight against his conflicts. The researcher used qualitative method with content analysis approach in conducting this research. The researcher analyzed Heathcliff by applying the literary theory and psychological theory. The researcher found that the main cause of Heathcliff?s neurosis as portrayed in Wuthering Heights novel was basic anxiety produced by the social environment where he lived. The factors that contributed to his development of neurosis were familial interference and the Victorian culture based on competition. Consequently, he developed three (3) neurotic trends as his defense mechanism to fight against his conflicts. These neurotic trends were (1) moving toward people; (2) moving against people; and (3) moving away from people.

Abstract

The hero’s journey is the journey that has to be passed by the hero in their adventure to finish their mission. This research was aimed to explain about Thor’s journey as a hero to save his people in Asgard of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) film. This research used Joseph Campbell’s theory of hero’s journey to explain about Thor’s journey as a hero in the film. This research was a qualitative research. The data used in this research came from the scenes and script (dialogues) related to Thor’s journey as a hero. The result of this research showed that Thor passed the three stages in hero’s journey. Thor passed all the steps in the first stage (Departure) which were Call of Adventure, Refusal of the Call, and Crossing the First Threshold. He also passed all the steps of the second stage (Initiation) such as the Road of Trials, Atonement with The Father, Apotheosis and The Ultimate Boon. In the third stage (Return), Thor was not able to pass all the steps. He passed three steps out of five which were the Resque from Without, Master of the Two Worlds, and Freedom to Live

Abstract

Myth and Heroes have been a part of humanity’s culture since long time ago. Campbell argues that all myth comes from a single source and dub it as the Monomyth. In these days and age, heroes still exist within the various media that we consume every day and one such work is Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One. The purpose of this study is to prove that monomyth and the characteristics of myth can be found within Ready Player One by examining its main character, Wade Watts. This study used the descriptive qualitative method to explain the story. The study employs two theories to describe Wade’s journey. First, it used the Monomyth by Joseph Campbell as the primary theory to analyze the hero’s journey from the beginning till the end. Second, Northrop Frye’s Theory of Myth is used to analyze the characteristic of myth and determine the work’s genre of myth. The result of the study showed that the monomyth is applicable in this work, all stages of monomyth can be found within the work, except for the refusal to the call. Furthermore, by employing Frye’s theory, the research showed that the most common characteristics of myth that appears in this research belongs to the Summer: Romance. These two analyses were able to successfully describe Wade’s journey and myth.

Abstract

Abstract: Revolution 4.0 is the era of technology when most human activities involve technology. Various aspects of human life have extensively utilized digital technology, including in the aspects of education, social, culture, and arts. For example, the utilization of AI-based technology is an effort to document culture through AI technology using Chat GPT. This community service activity aims to provide training in the form of guidance to students in documenting culture through the use of artificial intelligence or AI technology. This Community Service with a focus on creating cultural documentation, customs, traditions, and local folklore, this is not only in the form of cultural photography through images and videos but also in written text, which can support the enhancement of knowledge and skills in the cultural sphere based on the utilization of technology. Artificial intelligence is considered very important to be socialized to the students of SMA Negeri 2 Bontang, therefore they understand the application of artificial intelligence. The method used in this activity involves lectures and discussions, which include an explanation about AI followed by a discussion on how to document folktales using CHAT GPT. This activity encourages students' creativity and innovation in studying and documenting folklore through the use of quality technology. This community service provides benefits for both the participants and the volunteers, namely the increase in knowledge and skills related to the development of artificial intelligence technology in the aspect of literature, arts and culture. Keywords: cultural documentation, utilization of technology, Artificial Intelligence. Abstrak: Revolusi 4.0 era teknologi masa kini dimana sebagian besar aktivitas manusia melibatkan teknologi. Berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia telah banyak menggunakan pemanfaatan teknologi digital. Termasuk dalam aspek pendidikan, sosial, budaya dan seni. Sebagai contoh pemanfaatan teknologi berbasis AI yaitu upaya pendokumentasian Budaya melalui teknologi AI melalui Chat GPT. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan berupa pendampingan kepada siswa dalam mendokumentasikan budaya melalui penggunaan teknologi artificial intelligence atau AI. Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat dengan berfokus pada pembuatan dokumentasi budaya, adat istiadat, tradisi dan cerita Rakyat setempat, ini tidak hanya berbentuk pemotretan budaya melalui gambar dan video tetapi juga dalam bentuk teks tertulis, yang dapat mendukung peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam lingkup budaya berbasis pemanfaatan teknologi AI. Kecerdasan buatan dianggap sangat penting disosialisasikan kepada siswa-siswi SMA Negeri 2 Bontang, agar mereka memahami aplikasi ilmu dari kecerdasan buatan. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini berupa metode ceramah dan diskusi, yaitu memberikan pemaparan tentang AI kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pembahasan tentang tata cara mendokumentasikan cerita rakyat menggunakan CHAT GPT. Kegiatan ini mendorong kreativitas dan inovasi siswa dalam mempelajari dan mendokumentasikan cerita rakyat melalui pemanfaatan teknologi yang berkualitas. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini memberikan manfaat baik bagi peserta pengabdian maupun bagi pengabdi, yaitu bertambahnya pengetahuan berkaitan dengan perkembangan teknologi kecerdasan buatan dalam ranah sastra, seni dan budaya. Kata kunci: dokumentasi budaya, pemanfaatan teknologi, Artificial Intelligence.

Abstract

Luka sebuah Negeri adalah buku kumpulan puisi etnografi karya M. Junus Melalatoa, etnografer dan guru besar antropologi di Universitas Indonesia. Buku ini berisi dua puluh satu sajak yang membicarakan kebhinekaan budaya, bahasa, agama, ras, dan suku di Indonesia. Membaca dan menelaahnya merupakan hal yang penting sebagai upaya untuk menyebarkan paham multikulturalisme di tengah kemajemukan budaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan bentuk dan makna keragaman budaya Indonesia yang termanifestasikan dalam kumpulan puisi etnografi tersebut. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kepustakaan dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan teori semiotik yang dikembangkan oleh Michael Riffaterre. Telaah puisi dilakukan dengan cara menerapkan pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik yang dipadukan dengan perspektif multikulturalisme. Data penelitian berupa kata, frasa, kalimat, dan wacana multikulturalisme yang bersumber dari buku kumpulan puisi Luka sebuah Negeri terbitan Yayasan Obor pada 2006. Pengambilan data penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik baca, catat, dan sistem kartu data. Seluruh puisi, pertama-tama, dibaca secara heuristik untuk menemukan diksi yang berkaitan dengan wacana keragaman budaya. Hasil pembacaan, kemudian ditandai dan dicatat di kartu data untuk diklasifikasikan berdasarkan budaya nusantara yang terdapat di dalamnya. Data yang sudah dikumpulkan kemudian dianalisis dengan pembacaan hermeneutik dengan perspektif multikulturalisme untuk menemukan bentuk dan makna keragaman budaya nusantara.
