This study analyses persuasive strategies on Donald Trump’s political speeches. This study uses qualitative research as the design and Content Analysis as the approach. The researcher explores persuasive strategies used by Donald Trump using Aristotle’s Theory to see what persuasive strategies are used and how Trump’s political speech could affect audiences to vote for him. The researcher selected three speeches such as campaign speech (2015),victory speech (2016) and inauguration speech (2017) as the object of study. These speeches are selected based on some considerations, such as lexical density, political concepts described by Trump, academic scrutiny and also to make this research more manageable. Furthermore, the researcher found that Trump has used persuasive strategies in order to convince Americans to vote him as President. According to Aristotle , there are three types of Persuasive Strategies such as Logos, Ethos and Pathos. The researcher found thirty one statements indicated of containing pathos, thirteen statements of Logos and fifteen statements as Ethos. Pathos encompasses the emotional influence on the audience. Based on the analysis, the researcher concludes that persuasive strategies played crucial part to evoke audience’s emotions and feelings.

Semantics is the study of meaning in language. One of the linguistic features that can be considered in semantics is figurative language. Short stories are oases of figurative language and literary devices that are used in such a way that they portray a far deeper meaning then the words themselves do. Because the story uses figurative language, readers occasionally have trouble understanding its significance and message. In this study, the researchers examine Roald Dahl's short tale "Lamb to the Slaughter" for the use of figurative language in order to utilize semantic analysis to determine the messages conveyed by the author. This study aims to discover the types and the meaning of the figurative language in the short story “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl by identifying the literal and non literal meaning and then finds the shared semantic features, the message of the story can be revealed. To support the analysis process, the researchers used the theory of semantic to discover the meaning of the figurative language in the story. The theory of figurative language is used to identify the types of figurative language in the story. The researchers applied the theory of message to reveal the true meaning or the message of the story.

This research conducts a comprehensive analysis about the Allusion on William Blake’s Selected Poems. The researchers choose three famous poems by William Blake such as ‘The Tyger’,’The Lamb’ and ‘A Poison Tree’. The researchers explored several types of allusion such as religious allusion, literary allusion, historical allusion, and mythical allusion. Furthermore, the researchers also explored autobiographical allusions in order to find the implication of allusion in the poems and Blake’s personal experience and philosophy. Using Bezerman’s approach, the researchers concluded several points. First, the researchers found twelve allusions in Blake’s selected poems. Specifically, there are three religious allusions, three mythical allusions, and two literary allusions in the Tyger. Furthermore, the researchers identified two religious allusions in The Lamb. In ‘A Poison Tree’ there are two religious allusions and two mythical allusions. Allusion is a powerful literary device that connects a text to other works, events, or ideas, enriching the reader's understanding through these connections. In the case of William Blake's poetry, allusion plays a critical role in creating layers of meaning, allowing readers to explore deeper interpretations and examine broader themes.

This research investigated the idiomatic expressions in the song lyrics of the Aladdin (2019) film soundtrack. Aladdin (2019) is a live-action adaptation of the One Thousand and One Night tales, based on Walt Disney's 1992 animated film of the same title. The aim of this study is to identify the types of idioms and meanings in Aladdin (2019) film soundtrack lyrics. This study applied a qualitative approach, drawing on Adam Makkai's theory of idiomatic expression and Geoffrey Leech's seven types of meaning theory. The results showed that 72 idioms have been used throughout the six songs chosen in the soundtrack. The researcher discovered every form of idioms, with tournure idioms being the most common, followed by phrasal verb, pseudo, irreversible binomials, phrasal compound, and incorporating verb. The research discovered that each of the six songs picked has a unique significance. In general, Aladdin portrays timeless themes like self-discovery, love, friendship, and the desire for freedom. Readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of what idioms are, their various types and classification, their usage and function in communication, and how they are processed by the speakers. This research also explores cross-linguistics comparison and their presence in literature and media.

This study describes the style of language used in the children's story The Little Beads on My Dress. This research is a qualitative descriptive study which aims to explain the style of language used in the children's story. The style of language that will be analyzed is the style of language from the aspect of story structure that occurs in the story and is associated with efforts to introduce the culture of one of the tribes in Indonesia, namely the Dayak Bahau tribe. The events that occur in the children's literature are imaginative works by the author which are told to occur in a village that actually exists in Indonesia, just as the traditions that are told in the story are also original traditions carried out by the Dayak Bahau tribe.

Abstract: Revolution 4.0 is the era of technology when most human activities involve technology. Various aspects of human life have extensively utilized digital technology, including in the aspects of education, social, culture, and arts. For example, the utilization of AI-based technology is an effort to document culture through AI technology using Chat GPT. This community service activity aims to provide training in the form of guidance to students in documenting culture through the use of artificial intelligence or AI technology. This Community Service with a focus on creating cultural documentation, customs, traditions, and local folklore, this is not only in the form of cultural photography through images and videos but also in written text, which can support the enhancement of knowledge and skills in the cultural sphere based on the utilization of technology. Artificial intelligence is considered very important to be socialized to the students of SMA Negeri 2 Bontang, therefore they understand the application of artificial intelligence. The method used in this activity involves lectures and discussions, which include an explanation about AI followed by a discussion on how to document folktales using CHAT GPT. This activity encourages students' creativity and innovation in studying and documenting folklore through the use of quality technology. This community service provides benefits for both the participants and the volunteers, namely the increase in knowledge and skills related to the development of artificial intelligence technology in the aspect of literature, arts and culture. Keywords: cultural documentation, utilization of technology, Artificial Intelligence. Abstrak: Revolusi 4.0 era teknologi masa kini dimana sebagian besar aktivitas manusia melibatkan teknologi. Berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia telah banyak menggunakan pemanfaatan teknologi digital. Termasuk dalam aspek pendidikan, sosial, budaya dan seni. Sebagai contoh pemanfaatan teknologi berbasis AI yaitu upaya pendokumentasian Budaya melalui teknologi AI melalui Chat GPT. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan berupa pendampingan kepada siswa dalam mendokumentasikan budaya melalui penggunaan teknologi artificial intelligence atau AI. Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat dengan berfokus pada pembuatan dokumentasi budaya, adat istiadat, tradisi dan cerita Rakyat setempat, ini tidak hanya berbentuk pemotretan budaya melalui gambar dan video tetapi juga dalam bentuk teks tertulis, yang dapat mendukung peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam lingkup budaya berbasis pemanfaatan teknologi AI. Kecerdasan buatan dianggap sangat penting disosialisasikan kepada siswa-siswi SMA Negeri 2 Bontang, agar mereka memahami aplikasi ilmu dari kecerdasan buatan. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini berupa metode ceramah dan diskusi, yaitu memberikan pemaparan tentang AI kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pembahasan tentang tata cara mendokumentasikan cerita rakyat menggunakan CHAT GPT. Kegiatan ini mendorong kreativitas dan inovasi siswa dalam mempelajari dan mendokumentasikan cerita rakyat melalui pemanfaatan teknologi yang berkualitas. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini memberikan manfaat baik bagi peserta pengabdian maupun bagi pengabdi, yaitu bertambahnya pengetahuan berkaitan dengan perkembangan teknologi kecerdasan buatan dalam ranah sastra, seni dan budaya. ABSTRACT This research examines the use of presupposition in the dialogue and script of the film The Help (2011) through George Yule's presupposition theory. Presuppositions are background assumptions held by the speaker and play a role in communication to convey information indirectly. George Yule identifies six types of presuppositions: existential, factive, lexical, structural, non-factive, and counterfactual. The Help film is set in 1960s Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement and explores the complex relationship between black maids and their white employers. This research focuses on the dialogues and scripts of three film characters, Aibileen Clark, Minny Jackson, and Eugenia Phelan (Skeeter), to investigate how types of presuppositions are represented in the dialogues and scripts. This research shows how presuppositions contribute to understanding implicit information using a pragmatic approach. Socio-cultural contexts are used to understand the way presuppositions interpret utterances. In this study, all six types of presuppositions: existential, factive, lexical, structural, non-factive, and counterfactual were found in the film's dialogue. Structural presuppositions were the most common type, and non-factive presuppositions were the least found by the researcher. This study shows that presuppositions are essential to convey messages implicitly, enhancing the researcher's understanding of character interactions through the context of the unfolding situation and the characterization of Aibileen as the main character. This research aimed to analyze the personality dynamics of Phil Burbank, the main character in the film The Power of the Dog, through the lens of Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theory on the concept of the tripartite principle of the psyche: id, ego, and superego. The 2021 film The Power of the Dog, written and directed by Jane Campion, and its script were used as the primary data source. This research employed a qualitative method and a psychoanalysis approach to examine how these three components of personality interacted within Phil Burbank. Phil Burbank was portrayed as a dominant masculine figure who harbored deep and complex inner conflicts, based on the categorization of the situation, identified in Phil’s aggressive behaviour and his need to dominate those around him, reflecting unsublimated unconscious drives. The ego was observed in his attempts to conform to social norms and preserve his masculine image despite internal conflict with his desires. The superego was manifested through moral judgments and efforts to uphold internalized morality, shaping his attitudes and worldview. The results indicated that the id was the most dominant structure with eight data, followed by ego with four data, and superego with two data. Concluded from this research was the idea that Phil’s inability to reconcile his desires (id), his social façade (ego), and his moral conscience (superego) led to his self-destruction. This psychological imbalance was reflected in emotional instability, toxic relationships, and ultimately, his death.

The primary objective of this community service program is to cultivate English writing skill among high school students and those living in the tourist village of Masdarling in Bontang, East Kalimantan. By connecting culture with writing experiences, the intention is to reinforce cultural identity and uphold the values of local wisdom and indigenous culture among the younger generation, particularly in light of the challenges posed by the dominance of global culture. The implementation of this community service project involves a series of stages, which include identifying the problem, planning the activity, implementing the activity, conducting evaluation and monitoring, and reporting on the activity. The culture-oriented writing outputs produced by high school students in East Kalimantan exhibit various challenges, such as a limited range of ideas, the use of complex vocabulary and grammar, and ineffective sentence construction. The findings from the community service initiatives demonstrate an increasing awareness of the significance of training for skill development. This English writing training is projected to function as a platform for local communities to enhance their ability to showcase local traditions and culture to a worldwide audience, ultimately drawing the interest of international tourists.

Abstract: English language skills have a significant contribution to making the face of a business more representative, in this case businesses engaged in the hospitality sector. This community service activity was held to improve the quality of human resources, more specifically English language skills in the hotel industry located around Mulawarman University. This activity method consists of several stages, namely socialization, procurement of teaching media, training, assignments, and mentoring. From the results of the socialization, the schedule and location of the activities were obtained on May 8, 2023. The pre-test and post-test results showed an increase from 54.8 to 62.5. After this activity, the lecturers involved in the community service continues to monitor and provide assistance if there are participants who want to ask questions and want to practice their abilities. The advice from the lecturers involved in this community service is that for partners to hold an English Day, namely choosing one day in a week for all employees to practice communicating in English. This aims to create learning atmosphere that is casual and still effective. Keywords: speaking skill; hospitality. Abstrak: Keterampilan berbahasa inggris memiliki kontribusi yang signifikan guna membuat wajah usaha menjadi lebih representatif, dalam hal ini usaha yang bergerak di bidang perhotelan. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini diadakan guna meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia, secara lebih spesifik keterampilan berbahasa Inggris di bidang industri perhotelan yang berlokasi di sekitar Universitas Mulawarman. Metode kegiatan ini terdiri dari beberapa tahapan yaitu sosialisasi, pengadaan media ajar, pelatihan, penugasan, dan pendampingan. Dari hasil sosialisasi, didapatkan jadwal dan lokasi kegiatan yang diadakan yaitu pada tanggal 8 Mei 2023. Hasil pre-test dan post-testmenunjukkan ada peningkatan dari 54,8 menjadi 62,5. Setelah kegiatan ini, dosen yang terlibat dalam Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini tetap memantau dan memberikan pendampingan apabila ada peserta yang ingin bertanya dan ingin melatih kemampuannya. Saran dari dosen pelaksana Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk mitra mengadakan English Day yaitu memilih satu hari dalam seminggu untuk seluruh karyawan berlatih berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Hal ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan atmosfer dan suasana belajar yang kasual dan tetap efektif. Kata kunci: kemampuan berbicara; perhotelan.
