Abstract

A resilient family is a family that is capable of survival, overcoming difficult challenges, and then grow stronger (Walsh, 2006). Cultural identity is one of the factors that play a role in forming family resilience, because in order to build the understanding and values of family resilience one needs to build it in accordance to local culture. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that build family resilience in Indonesian families, especially Batak Toba families. The measurement tool used in this study is Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire (WFRQ) to measure family resilience (α = .879), The Responses to Stress Questionnaire to measure coping (α = .755), and Family Strains Index to measure strain (α = .763). Another measurement tool is Batak Toba Adat Questionnaire (BAQ) and it is used to measure cultural identity (α = .677), community support, and socioeconomic status. The data is analyzed using Linear Structural Relation (LISREL) through Structural Equation Model (SEM) method. The subject of the study is individuals using Batak Toba surname (N = 295), consisting of 51.2% female and 48.4% male, with age range of 30-65 years old. The percentage of the subject that comes from a big family is 50.85%. The results of the study show that cultural identity, coping, family strain, community support, and socioeconomic status contribute together to build family resilience. The final model produced by this study shows that community support mediated cultural identity and socioeconomic status in building family resilience. Meanwhile, vairables family strain and coping directly affects the shaping of family resilience.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: One of the reasons smokers struggle to quit smoking is psychological dependence, which fosters a false belief that cigarettes help alleviate stress and anxiety. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in reducing psychological dependence on cigarettes among university students. The participants consisted of three students who struggled to reduce their smoking dependence, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), interviews, and observations. After six CBT sessions, FTND scores decreased from high and moderate levels to low levels among the participants. These changes occurred as participants were able to modify their false beliefs about smoking and adopt healthier and more effective coping strategies to manage stress and anxiety, replacing cigarettes as their primary means of coping. Key words: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, smoking cessation, psychological dependence

Abstract

The current industrial era is extremely fast-paced and dynamic. Companies require employees who can adapt quickly and enhance the company's competitiveness through innovative ideas. The aim of this study is to examine the role of Learning Agility as a predictor of Innovative Work Behavior, with Job Crafting as a mediator. Learning agility is the ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to changing situations. Innovative Work Behavior involves identifying problems and implementing new ideas. Job crafting refers to how employees adjust their job demands and resources. This study was conducted with 158 employees, aged 18–58 years, with a minimum of one year of work experience. The measurement tools in this study were the Learning Agility Scale by Wardhani et al. (2022), the Innovative Work Behavior Scale by Jong & Den Hartog (2010), and the Job Crafting Scale by Tims et al. (2012). Data processing was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics 30.0. The results of the study showed that Learning Agility has a significant influence on Innovative Work Behavior (p=.000; p< .05), Learning Agility has a significant influence on Job Crafting (p=.000; p<.05), Job Crafting has a significant influence on Innovative Work Behavior (p=.0426; p<.05), and Job Crafting partially mediates the relationship between Learning Agility and Innovative Work Behavior. The implications of this study suggest that managers and employees should develop Learning Agility capabilities and implement Job Crafting strategies to exhibit Innovative Work Behavior.

Abstract

Some studies have shown differences in parenting practices between teenage and emerging adult mothers; however, not all research has found this to be the case. This study aims to examine differences in perceptions of parenting roles between teenage and emerging adult mothers. Perceptions of parenting roles are associated with parenting practices and encompass four dimensions: parenting competence, parenting satisfaction, parenting investment, and integration/role balance. This research is a non-experimental study using a between-subjects design. A total of 86 teenage mothers (15–19 years old) and 86 emerging adult mothers (20–23 years old) participated in the study. Parenting self-perception was measured using the Self-Perception of Parenting Role (SPPR), and the data were analyzed using a t-test. The results indicated significant differences in parenting self-perception between teenage and emerging adult mothers in the areas of parenting competence, parenting satisfaction, and integration/role balance. Emerging adult mothers demonstrated higher competence, greater satisfaction, and a better ability to integrate the various roles they undertake. In contrast, no significant differences were found between the two groups in parenting investment. These findings support Law Number 16 Year 2019, which permits marriage for men and women aged 19 years and older.
