Abstract

The rapid adoption of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) in literacy instruction presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly concerning the cognitive load imposed on students when comprehending complex narrative texts such as biographies. This study investigates the effectiveness of both process-oriented and content-oriented prompting strategies within a VLE in reducing students' cognitive load during biographical text instruction. Drawing upon Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) and Mayer's seven principles of multimedia learning, this study employed a quasi-experimental design involving 65 secondary school students, who were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (utilizing a VLE with reinforced prompting) or a control group (utilizing a conventional VLE). The findings reveal that students in the prompting-enhanced VLE class demonstrated significantly lower extrinsic cognitive load and higher germane cognitive load compared to the control group. Process-oriented prompts effectively mitigated extraneous cognitive processing, whereas content-related prompts enhanced learner motivation and facilitated deeper engagement with the biographical texts. These results affirm that well-designed prompts within a VLE play a pivotal role in literacy instruction, offering practical pedagogical implications for educators seeking to balance the affordances of technology with students' cognitive constraints.

Abstract

Abstract Deep learning is an approach applied within the *Kurikulum Merdeka* (Independent Curriculum) to foster mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning. This study aims to describe the implementation of deep learning—specifically regarding lesson planning, instructional delivery, and the alignment between the two—in an Indonesian language class for Grade XI Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) students at SMK NU 1 Kedungpring. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with the Grade XI TKJ Indonesian language teacher serving as the subject. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, documentation, and an analysis of teaching modules, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the characteristics of mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning were integrated into lesson planning through the formulation of learning objectives, the use of provocative (inquiry-based) questions, and the design of learning and reflection activities. During instruction, these three characteristics were realized by communicating learning objectives, conducting activities that focused student attention, facilitating discussion and collaboration, connecting material to students' experiences, and creating an active, comfortable learning atmosphere. The alignment between planning and implementation was rated as good, as the majority of activities outlined in the teaching modules were successfully carried out in the classroom. However, certain indicators were not optimally implemented, specifically providing opportunities for all students to offer in-depth responses, integrating the material with the professional context of Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ), and adapting instruction to specific classroom conditions.

Abstract

Research on slang language on TikTok has strong relevance to contemporary linguistic studies because it reflects language development influenced by social media. This study not only identifies slang terms appearing in TikTok comment sections but also analyzes their word-formation processes and meanings. Through this research, the researcher seeks to reveal the creative processes of language use and the social meanings underlying the emergence of these slang expressions. Furthermore, this study provides an overview of the influence of social media on the development of the Indonesian language, particularly in informal communication. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data consisting of comments posted by netizens on TikTok. Data were collected through library research and note-taking techniques, while data analysis was conducted using content analysis to interpret the forms and meanings of the slang expressions found in the comments. The results showed that there were 39 instances of slang language based on Muslich’s theory, including acronyms, abbreviations, contractions, clippings, and reversed forms. Acronyms were found in words such as stecu, gercep, and salfok; abbreviations in JJ, HTS, and PD; contractions in bg, dah, and bat; clippings in melow, gemoy, and bro; and reversed forms in ngab. In addition, six types of meaning were identified: lexical, grammatical, contextual, referential, denotative, and connotative meanings. The study concludes that acronym forms and denotative meanings are the most dominant types of slang used in TikTok comment sections.
