Abstract

China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is considered as a game-changer for Pakistan and for the whole region. The whole region of Pakistan can take benefits of the projects of CPEC carried out under the umbrella of One Belt One Road initiative. This paper is aimed to explore the regional dynamics of CPEC and Indian antagonistic role towards this project. Pakistan is one of the prime states in China one belt one road initiatives. China is executing a multiyear investment in multibillion dollars program and termed it China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Several projects are included in this plan for instance Industry, communication infrastructure and energy which cost almost USD 46 billion. It is expected that CPEC will contributes remarkably in reducing poverty and socio-economic development of Pakistan. Thus, keeping in view, the benefits of CPEC, most of the analyst claimed it to be the most important mega project in Pakistan. They also claim that it will greatly benefit the people of both countries i.e. Pakistan and China. Received: 28 October 2020 / Accepted: 5 December 2020 / Published: 17 January 2021

Abstract

Non profitable organizations have been contributing in the development of state and society for a long time. These are generally praised for their progressive agendas. However, occasionally these have also been blamed for having some hidden agenda. This requires strict monitoring and evaluation of this sector. Different policies have been introduced in the past for this purpose. However, some of them have been found to be working for foreign agendas. Therefore, it is extremely important to comprehend the effectiveness of the monitoring and evaluation policies in Pakistan. This paper is focused on different monitoring and evaluation policies and compared it with the policy of PML (N) government (2013-18) to bring to limelight the strengths and weakness of such policies. The research paper is primarily designed to find out comprehensive study that how the government presently monitored the working of NGOs. The analysis will help the policy makers to evaluate the working of NGOs in an effective way. Received: 28 October 2020 / Accepted: 5 December 2020 / Published: 17 January 2021

Abstract

Olea ferruginea has been used to treat skin ailments, as well as kidney and ocular problems for a long time. The current study was designed with the aim of investigating and scientifically validating its widespread use. Chloroform, n-hexane, and ethyl acetate were used to assess the antibacterial, hemagglutination, and insecticidal properties of O. ferruginea roots. Escherichia coli, Micrococcus luteus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were among the bacterial strains selected for assessing antibacterial activity. The results showed that ethyl-acetate (EtOAc) extract (56%) and chloroform (CHCl3) extract (56%) showed the widest zone of inhibition against K. pneumonia, while n-hexane extract (13.4%) had the lowest zone of inhibition against P. aeruginosa. All three extracts remained inactive against M. luteus. During hemagglutination activity, the CHCl3 and EtOAc extracts, when used at different concentrations, only agglutinated the AB−ve and O+ve blood groups, respectively, while the n-hexane extract strongly agglutinated the A−ve and B−ve blood groups at different concentrations. The plant extracts were also checked for insecticidal activity against Rhizopertha dominica. The results also revealed the high mortality rate of CHCl3 extract (70%) against R. dominica as compared to other extracts. The aforesaid activities suggest that the roots of O. ferruginea have excellent medicinal viability and contain a wide variety of agglutinins and lectins, as shown in this study.

Abstract

Positive psychology is transformative in developing individuals’ self-esteem, life satisfaction, subjective happiness, and social competence. The objectives of the present study were to investigate the impact of self-esteem and overall life satisfaction on perceived social competence in university students while measuring subjective happiness as a mediator and gender differences across variables. A sample of 1,168 participants was selected using purposive and random sampling techniques across universities in Pakistan. The study design was correlational with a quantitative method. Four scales, the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSE), satisfaction with life scale (SWLS), subjective happiness scale (SHS), and perceived social competence scale (PSCS), were administered to measure the variables. Pearson correlation and mediation models were used to test the hypotheses. The analysis indicated that subjective happiness mediated the relationship between self-esteem, perceived social competence, life satisfaction, and perceived social competence. Moreover, the results showed that males scored higher than females in terms of levels of self-esteem. No significant gender difference existed in life satisfaction, subjective happiness, and perceived social competence. These findings may significantly enrich the literature on positive psychology in Pakistani university students and can assist universities in their mental health programs and sustain students’ healthier well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze physician professionalism and medical liability within the framework of civil law, particularly concerning patient protection and available legal remedies. Employing a normative legal research method and a statutory approach, this study examines relevant legal norms, primarily those contained in Law Number 8 of 1999, the Civil Code, and Law Number 17 of 2023. The data were analyzed prescriptively, not only to explain the prevailing law (das Sein) but also to formulate how the law should be applied or developed (das Sollen) in order to provide optimal legal protection for patients. The results indicate that physician professionalism, encompassing technical competence, moral integrity, and adherence to professional standards and medical ethics, is the basis for realizing quality and equitable healthcare services. Medical liability, which includes civil and criminal legal liability and ethical and moral responsibility, constitutes an important framework for establishing a balanced contractual relationship between physicians and patients. In medical malpractice, civil law instruments, specifically lawsuits based on breach of contract, tort, and negligence, provide avenues for patients to claim compensation for losses suffered and out-of-court dispute resolution mechanisms that need to be further encouraged.

Abstract

Background: The STEM approach in learning integrates the concepts of science, the use of technology, engineering, and mathematics, which support enthusiastic, creative, and active learning activities by students. In this context, it is necessary to develop ways to improve the understanding of the concept of a three-variable system of linear equations in high school students.Aim: The purpose of this study was to produce a learning trajectory in the three-variable linear equation system material using the STEM approach for high school students, with the main objective of increasing students' critical thinking skills.Method: The method used is 'design research', which includes three stages: preliminary, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The research was conducted at a public high school in Palembang City, using qualitative descriptive data analysis techniques based on observation, interviews, and tests designed to measure students' critical thinking skills.Result: The results of this study are STEM-based learning trajectories that are effective in helping students understand the system of three-variable linear equations. The hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) that has been implemented is a successful tool in helping students understand the concept and can improve students' critical thinking skills. Conclusion: The STEM-based mathematics learning design produced in this study has the potential to serve as a reference for teachers in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in the subject matter of a system of three-variable linear equations. It is hoped that this approach will become a valuable tool in helping students understand mathematical concepts in greater depth in the future.

Abstract

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is a general-purpose rubber produced from a copolymer of styrene and butadiene.  It is used largely in automobile and truck tires. In general, it is considered to be an abrasion-resistant replacement for natural rubber.  In this article, we compute a set of recently introduced distance-based topological descriptors namely, Zagreb connection indices and reformulated Zagreb connection indices for the SBR structures. Zagreb indices and Reformulated Zagreb indices  were applied to forecast numerous molecular properties through QSAR studies of boiling point, Molar volume and bioactivity. These indices offer a quick and effective measure of molecular complexity and features of their composition resulting in approximate molecular behavior.
