Abstract

The phenomenon of regional language extinction, particularly in Indonesia, is clearly evident and experienced by the language users themselves. In order to prevent the extinction of regional languages, the government has long established a legal framework for regional languages in Indonesia. The Minister of Education has also introduced guidelines (Models A and B) for the revitalization of local languages, with the aim of preserving them in Indonesia. These guidelines are intended to support local governments in adopting strategies to maintain and preserve local languages. Consequently, researchers have shown interest in examining the role of the Regional Government of Nagan Raya Regency in preserving the local language. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The findings of this research indicate that 5 out of 6 approaches to regional language revitalization efforts have been implemented in line with the Language Development and Development Agency (2022). However, the Nagan Raya government has not yet implemented an immersion-based learning approach to language revitalization, as this program is still unfamiliar to them. Nevertheless, other approaches, such as one-day language practice, technology-based learning, religion, arts and culture, and creativity, have been successfully implemented.

Abstract

The low literacy ability of Indonesian children is the responsibility of all parties. In simple terms, Literacy can be interpreted as skills in writing and reading. Low reading ability is influenced by access to difficult books and very limited ownership of reading books. The condition of low reading literacy of Indonesian children was then summarized in an Anthology book entitled "Jejak Juang Laskar Literasi" by alumni education volunteers of the Indonesian Literacy School Program and Gemari Baca Dompet Dhuafa. ALUSIA collaborated with academics from Teuku Umar University and literacy activists to review the book.  The method is carried out in the form of a talk show with a narrative model directly through Instagram social media. The recorded audience until December 2024 is 316 spectators. The theme raised was "Literacy at the fingertips, reading campaign for all".  The audience's response during the narration activity was good, which was measured by the enthusiasm of the audience asking questions and commenting in the comment column during the event, and also the number of spectators that continued to increase every day. This narrative activity is a form of community service as an effort to invite readers from all walks of life so that the literacy of Indonesian children increases.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of language contact between Panglima Laot, fishers, and government representatives in West Aceh, Indonesia. The research aims to analyze how linguistic interaction occurs in the context of policy communication within coastal communities and to identify the sociolinguistic forms of interference, integration, code-switching, and code-mixing that emerge during such interactions. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews and field observations involving government officials, Panglima Laot, and local fishers. The findings reveal that Panglima Laot functions as a linguistic and socio-cultural bridge, facilitating communication between the government and the fishing community. Language contact occurs due to differences in linguistic backgrounds Indonesian used by officials and Acehnese or the Jamu dialect used by fishers. The study shows that code-switching and code-mixing serve as effective strategies for ensuring mutual understanding, while interference and integration reflect linguistic adaptation and cultural assimilation. These linguistic practices not only improve policy comprehension but also strengthen social cohesion and trust between stakeholders. The research highlights the significance of local language and traditional leadership in enhancing communication effectiveness and ensuring the successful implementation of government policies in coastal regions.
