Abstract

Era Society 5.0 which focuses on the utilization of technology for human interest (human-centered); on one hand becomes a fresh air after in the previous era there was a lot of dehumanization due to the dominance of the development of digital technology, big data, artificial intelligence and automatization. On the other hand, this development is considered as the causalty of moral decadence, polarization, inequality and various forms of social problems that are massively increasing in the midst of society. In this context, how should the church play a role in implementing transformational mandat within the society? The Church is God's gift to the world to involve in serving the world’s problems. The Church presents as God’s compassion manifestation towards sinners and marginalized group of people who are exploited and dominated. This research approach used a descriptive qualitative method that involves historical and explorative studies of biblical texts and literature research. Historical studies were conducted to find the transformative role of the church throughout the history of human civilization history. An explorative-ecclesiological approach is used to synchronize the role of the church in the light of transformative ecclesiology. Historical studies in this study have found that in the church development history from the New Testament church, medieval ages to the reform era, the church was not only present to carry out the mandate of spiritual transformation; but also presented in addressing the daily life basis’ problems and advocating the fatalist groups in the midts of capitalists and paternaists’ oppression. The role of the church as a servant is a form of manifestation of the transformative mandate belongs to the church. As a servant the church must reflects the existence of Christ as a faithful Servant. The Church must follow, obbey the commandments, live the mission and have the ministry focus as Christ’s.

Abstract

Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System is the ground of conveying a professional and accountable education model system in Indonesia. This also applies to higher theological education institutions (THEI) that want to get recognition and accreditation from the government. The obligation to comply with this regulation presents its own challenges for theological institutions which are generally established as one of the ministry training entities for the church. Therefore, this study was conducted to obtain information related to particular challenges and competencies of an academic leader in THEI in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative, systematic grounded theory approach to explore leadership challenges and characteristics in Theological institutions. This study found that factors contributing to effective leadership in dealing with legal and accreditation issues are personal, managerial, practical, administrative, and relational skills. This finding shows that in general, leadership at THEI still needs strengthening in various areas.

Abstract

Spiritual formation is a critical component in faith development toward Christlikeness. When the Christians are no longer growing, they are actively dying. Therefore, various efforts need to be made to help Christians grow. However, many spiritual formation efforts are still segregated, fragmented, or isolated from other discourses. This approach tends to focus only on the spiritual dimension and ignores that an individual has complex dimensions that cannot be separated from one another. To realize a more holistic spiritual formation, this article explores some developmental psychological theories to find approaches that might help to nurture the faith of believers holistically. The research method employed for this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection was done by library research on various developmental theories from various developmentalists. From the results of the investigation, the author found different insights to realize more effective spiritual formation, namely by involving the community as a social context, taking into account every human dimension, giving space to the process, accommodating the nature of spiritual growth as multi-faceted and multi-directional, and presenting various experiences in the process of forming spiritual disciplines.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the situation of theological education in Indonesia, which still perpetuates traditional models of education, where learning still tends to be one-way, authoritative, and more focused on cognitive-academic development with “a rote learning approach.” This has left learners (a group of learners) alienated, marginalised, and even feeling pressured in the learning process. This condition makes it difficult to provide theological education that is hospitable and transformative in the lives of learners. Meanwhile, the Bible has shown that hospitality is an important theme in both the Old and New Testaments. God is a hospitable God and offers hospitality to his people. According to the author, hospitality also needs to be presented in theological education in Indonesia. From the theoretical framework of hospitality and theological education, the author analyses Matthew 11:28-30 to find the principles of hospitality relevant to theological education in Indonesia.  The author examines various thoughts on hospitality through a literature study. The selected text was studied using an exegetical approach and inductive interpretation. Based on the analysis, it was found that Jesus' learning environment differs from that of the Scribes. Jesus' learning environment is inclusive, liberating and collaborative. The implication is that theological education with hospitality provides a learning atmosphere that is liberating, uplifting, takes into account the uniqueness of the students, and provides a comfortable atmosphere.

Abstract

Yogyakarta, the designated research locus, is recognized as a leading student city, with a substantial academic community consisting of hundreds of universities and hundreds of thousands of students from various geographical locations throughout Indonesia. This condition gives rise to various social dynamics that must be addressed in relation to urgent spiritual issues. The students, who are new adults (18-25 years old) and the subjects of this study, often face a variety of social, emotional, and spiritual challenges associated with this age group's high rate of release in activities and communities of faith. As a result, there is an emerging need to provide related services that prioritize outreach to students, especially in the context of urban settings. This study uses a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach to examine the phenomenon of religious practice in a local church in Yogyakarta that has shown the capacity to develop socialization services for young people.  The findings of this study show the importance of understanding the cognitive, social, and emotional development aspects of students as young adults. The personal perceptions and experiences of the study respondents highlighted the needs addressed during their involvement in the faith communities studied. These findings were then formulated into a mission-church-type model for reaching students in urban contexts. The model is based on the following: the adoption of an inclusive community model, the provision of dynamic discipleship, the delivery of relevant teaching, and the implementation of empowerment services.
