Abstract

Pumpkin is one type of vegetable that is not easily damaged compared to other types of vegetables because it has thick and hard skin so it can be an obstacle to respiration. However, pumpkin requires a very large space and is less practical when stored in the form of fresh fruit. Processing pumpkin into chips is one of the efforts to diversify pumpkin products, in addition to extending shelf life it can also increase selling value. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of CaCl2 concentration and freezing temperature on the quality of vacuum-fried pumpkin chips. The study used a two-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was soaking pumpkin in CaCl2 with concentrations of 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%. The second factor, freezing at a temperature of -10oC and -18oC. The results showed that soaking pumpkin in 1% CaCl2 solution with a freezing temperature of -10oC resulted in better quality pumpkin chips with a yield value of 28.03%, ash content of 1.69%, and fat content of 30.89%. The hedonic test of colour and taste was favoured for its crispness. The aroma was highly favoured. Labu kuning merupakan salah satu jenis sayuran yang tidak mudah rusak dibandingkan dengan jenis sayuran lainnya karena memiliki kulit yang tebal dan keras sehingga dapat menjadi penghambat respirasi. Namun demikian labu kuning membutuhkan ruang yang sangat luas dan kurang praktis apabila disimpan dalam bentuk buah segar. Pengolahan labu kuning menjadi keripik merupakan salah satu upaya diversifikasi produk labu kuning, selain dapat memperpanjang umur simpan juga dapat meningkatkan nilai jual. Tujuan penelitian  adalah  mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi CaCl2 dan suhu pembekuan terhadap mutu keripik labu kuning goreng vakum. Penelitian  menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dua faktor. Faktor pertama, perendaman labu kuning dalam CaCl2 dengan konsentrasi 0%, 1%, 2%, dan 3%. Faktor kedua, pembekuan pada suhu -10oC dan -18oC. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perendaman labu kuning dalam larutan CaCl2 1% dengan suhu pembekuan -10oC menghasilkan kualitas keripik labu kuning yang lebih baik dengan nilai rendemen 28,03%, kadar abu 1,69%, kadar lemak 30,89%, dan uji hedonik terhadap warna dan rasa disukai, kerenyahan dan aroma sangat disukai.

Abstract

The application of technology by farmers is one of the keys to success in increasing crop productivity. Farmers' decisions in adopting this technology are largely determined by the involvement of agricultural extension services regarding the methods and media they use. Carrying out duties as a source of motivation, educator, driver, organizer, communication trainer and counselor for farmers, extension services can influence targets including the use of extension methods and media to communicate and collaborate with farmers to increase farmers' knowledge regarding the jajar legowo 4:1 planting system . The purpose of this study is to examine the most effective extension methods and extension media applied by agricultural extension services and to examine the connection between the effectiveness of extension methods and extension media on the implementation of the Jajar Legowo 4:1 planting method. This research examines the Mamminasata Farmers Group using a case study approach, where this method is a form of research that can be carried out both quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitative descriptive methods are used to measure the effectiveness of agricultural extension methods and media. Spearman rank analysis was used to measure the correlation and connection between the effectiveness of extension methods and media and the implementation of the Jajar Legowo 4:1 planting system. The research results found that the most effective method used in agricultural extension to maintain or increase rice production is the demonstration plot method and the most effective media is oral media. The results of the Spearman rank analysis find that actual correlation among the implementation of the Jajar Legowo 4:1 planting method cultivation technology and the effectiveness of extension methods and media.

Abstract

Extension workers are among the contributors to agricultural activities. They are to provide guidance and knowledge through the latest information or innovation to enhance farming systems, which ultimately increases crop yields. Additionally, extension workers pursue to transform the behavior of farmers, for instance, their ability to adapt to continually changing situations and conditions. This research aims to analyze the role and effectiveness of agricultural extension in clove plantations in Enrekang Regency. The research was carried out in Buntu Barana Village, Curio District, Enrekang Regency, with 100 farmers as respondents. The results revealed that the extension process employing a group approach method attended by farmers and extension workers who provide knowledge regarding clove cultivation, starting from seeding, maintenance and fertilization, pest control, and postharvest, was successful, meeting farmers’ expectations. In this case, the instructor carries out his role well and effectively. The roles of agricultural instructors are facilitators, communicators, and motivators in the clove cultivation in Buntu Barana Village, Curio District, and they have been considered by the farmers effective in carrying out all roles, especially in clove cultivation activities.

Abstract

Pulu mandoti is a local type of rice that is fragrant and rare. This glutinous rice has a high selling price and can only thrive when planted in Salukanan Village. However, its productivity is still relatively low, so efforts are needed to sustain the farming business. This study aims to analyze farmer households' livelihood patterns and sustainability strategies. The respondents were 50 farmers selected using simple random sampling. The data were analyzed in descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative ways. The results showed that the pattern strategy of pulu mandoti rice farmer households is an intensification and extensification strategy in agricultural landuse, and diversification strategies in the livestock, service, trade, and employment sectors. The sustainability of farming livelihood patterns resulted in an index of 89.66%, included in the sustainable category. The government needs to pay attention to production factors that affect the productivity of pulu mandoti rice farming so that farming can be sustainable. Abstract

Hydroponics is an innovative plant cultivation technology that is suitable for application to vegetable plants in small yards. Our partner is the Dahlia Women's Farming Group (KWT) located in Temmapadduae Village, Marusu District, Maros Regency. Their daily activities are housewives, they grow various types of vegetables and ornamental plants in their yards, which on average are relatively small with a conventional cultivation system. The aim of this service is to increase the knowledge and skills of partners in implementing the Wick system of vegetable hydroponics which is quite simple, cheap and easy to do in the yard. The forms of activities carried out are counseling, training/plot demonstration, mentoring and evaluation. This service activity provides significant benefits for KWT Dahlia in Marusu District, Maros Regency because it has increased their knowledge and skills from not understanding to understanding/very understanding in cultivating vegetable plants using the Wick hydroponic system in the yard and the growth of vegetable plants obtained is quite good. . This service activity received a positive response from the community and they participated in the entire series of activities with great enthusiasm
