This study aims to look at the urgency of Ma?had al-J?mi?ah of IAIN Tulungagung as a form of synthesis between Islamic Boarding School Education and Islamic University. The focus of this paper is, why should there be Ma?had al-J?mi?ah as a synthesis of Islamic Boarding School Education and Islamic University at IAIN Tulungagung? How is the implementation and existence of synthesis of Islamic Boarding School Education and Islamic University at IAIN Tulungagung? This paper departs from qualitative research, which the data is obtained through observation, interviews and documentation as well as literary sources as a support. The results showed: (1) the development of science and technology does not always bring benefit but on the other hand it leaves problems including the lack of religious understanding, the decline of morality and the issue of radicalism. This was signaled by an incomprehensive religious understanding. For this reason, IAIN Tulungagung made a constructive breakthrough, namely establishing Ma?had al-J?mi?ah which specifically addressed the issue of religious complexity. (2) Implementation of the synthesis of Islamic Boarding School Education and Islamic University at Ma?had al-J?mi?ah of IAIN Tulungagung according to Parsons cannot be separated from four functions, namely Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, and Latency as requirements in its preservation. The theoretical contribution that is built is the existence of Ma?had al-J?mi?ah can run and develop on the formed system.
