Abstract

The study aimed to reveal transitive verbs, both active and passive monotransitive, in the Arabic short story “al-’Ajuz was al-’Ushfur” by Mahasin Jadu by using Kenneth L. Pike’s tagmemic theory, which consists of four elements. This study was qualitative-descriptive. Data was collected by reading and noting techniques from short story texts based on Kenneth L. Pike’s four tagmemic elements. The result of the study showed that based on Kenneth L. Pike’s four tagmemic elements, active transitive verbs were expressed by using four structures: (1) transitive verb phrase, noun phrase 1, and noun phrase 2; (2) transitive verb phrase, noun phrase 1, noun phrase 2, and adjunct (prepositional phrase); (3) transitive verb phrase, noun phrase 1, and noun phrase 2; (4) transitive verb phrases (noun phrase 1), adjunct (prepositional phrase), and noun phrase 2. The passive monotransitive verbs founded on one structure were expressed by using transitive verb phrases, noun phrases 1, and noun phrases 2. The result of this study shows that in many cases of transitive phrases, both active and passive monotransitive forms might stimulate the notion of different meanings by using their own syntactic structures.

Abstract

The Mars Pusat Ma’had al-Jâmi’ah song is a symbolic representation of the institutional identity of the Pusat Ma’had al-Jâmi’ah at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. This song not only expresses institutional spirit but also illustrates a harmonious integration of Javanese cultural elements and Islamic religious values. This study aims to explore the religious values embedded in the song’s lyrics and uncover their implicit meanings using Riffaterre’s semiotic theory. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through intensive reading and textual annotation. Analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, involving data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that the song serves not only as an aesthetic expression but also as an ideological and educational medium. The matrix or underlying meaning lies in the Ma’had’s mission to nurture a Qur’anic generation. This is reflected through two dominant models: the development of Qur’anic character and the reinforcement of Islamic symbols (syi’ar Islam) in social contexts. Key religious values identified include unwavering faith, personal and social piety, and sincere devotion to Islamic teachings reflected in real-life actions. Additionally, the song acts as a medium for internalizing spiritual values and affirming the cultural and religious identity of pesantren-based education. The findings imply that institutional mars songs hold potential as effective instruments for character development and the transmission of Islamic values, particularly in strengthening the cultural-spiritual identity within Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This research aims to expose different ways of using technology in Arabic language teaching, assess the effectiveness of technology in improving students' language skills, and discover the obstacles and supporting elements of using technology. The ultimate goal of this research is to provide practical suggestions on using technological innovations to improve the quality of Arabic language learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This study applies a qualitative approach with a multisite type to explore the process of technology integration in Arabic language teaching in various educational institutions. Through data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation in several locations, this research seeks to uncover patterns of implementation, obstacles faced, and effective strategies that support the success of technology integration in contextualized Arabic language learning. The data is collected through classroom observations, interviews with Arabic teachers, and documentation studies on using digital learning media. Data analysis in this study was conducted qualitatively with a multisite approach, starting from the data reduction process by selecting important information from interviews, observations, and documentation in several educational institutions. The results show that learning videos, digital dictionary apps, online quizzes, and language learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Duolingo significantly increase student participation. However, unequal technology infrastructure and limited training for teachers become major problems. It is proven that using technology in Arabic language teaching increases learning effectiveness and interactivity. However, implementation relies heavily on well-prepared teachers, available infrastructure, and institutional policy support. For these innovations to be successful and sustainable, educators and technology developers must work together.

Abstract

This study aims to contrastively examine the use of swear words in social interaction between Indonesian and Arab ethnicities based on sociolinguistic analysis. Swear words are part of everyday communication that can serve as emotional expressions, humour, solidarity, or even insults, depending on the social and cultural context in which they are used. This study reveals how cultural values, social norms, and linguistic factors influence the use and acceptance of swear words in both ethnic groups. This study uses a sociolinguistic approach to understand the social factors that influence swearing, contrastive analysis to compare the structure and meaning of swear words in Indonesian and Arabic, and ethnography of communication to examine the situation of using swear words in daily life. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and text analysis from social media, films, and oral interactions. The results show that there are differences in the patterns of swear word usage between the two ethnicities. In Arabic culture, swear words are mostly related to family honour, social status, and religion, so their use is more limited and can trigger serious conflicts. Meanwhile, in Indonesian culture, swear words have a wider variety and can function as expressions of anger, jokes, or even forms of familiarity, depending on the social relationship between the speaker and the listener. Moreover, the intensity and social acceptability of swearing varies by region and age group. This research provides new insights into how language as a reflection of culture can influence the way individuals express emotions and interact in society. The findings also have implications for the study of cross-cultural communication, language learning, as well as an understanding of the social and psychological impact of swear word use in everyday interactions.

Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence has led to an increased use of natural language-based chatbots in various industries, particularly in online customer service. These chatbots have become essential tools for improving customer engagement, providing timely support, and enhancing the overall user experience. However, despite their growing popularity, the impact of chatbot usage on user experience in online customer service remains underexplored. This study investigates the influence of natural language-based chatbot usage on user experience in online customer service settings. The research aims to evaluate how chatbot interactions affect customer satisfaction, ease of use, and perceived efficiency in addressing customer queries. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with users who interacted with a natural language-based chatbot on an e-commerce platform. The data collected were analyzed to assess the correlation between chatbot usage and user experience. The results revealed that users who interacted with the chatbot reported higher levels of satisfaction and perceived efficiency compared to those who used traditional customer service methods. The ease of use and quick response times contributed to positive user experiences, although some users expressed concerns about the chatbot’s ability to handle complex queries. The study concludes that natural language-based chatbots can significantly improve user experience in online customer service, but further improvements are needed to enhance their capabilities in addressing more complex issues.
