Abstract

Abstract

This research analyzes the governmental external communication in the development of road infrastructure in Liang Melas Datas (LMD), a region consisting of six villages and three hamlets located in three sub-districts in Karo Regency of North Sumatra. The road that has been damaged for around twenty years has made the surrounding communities difficult to transport their agricultural produce to the market. The communities made themselves the information sender by delivering three tons of Siam orange (Citrus Nobilis) to the President of Indonesia as a gift along with their representatives to meet him in December of 2021. This qualitative descriptive research employs two types of data. As the primary was acquired from interviews with the message sending initiator, the secondary was gathered from mass media, the government’s website, YouTube channels, the Karo people communities’ Instagram accounts, and the government’s official documents. Here governmental external communication and the concept of development communication were used as the tools of analysis. This study finds the message communicator is Efendra Sembiring (ES) who initiated the idea of delivering the gift to the president. Delivery of gifts to the president without the help of any political elite. The media for the message are social media, direct meeting, and local mass media. The people of LMD are able to use their local potentials as instruments to deliver the information. The effect is that the people of LMD have more knowledge and different attitude and behavior after receiving the idea of ES. The central government was also affected, proven by the acceleration in the development of road infrastructure which was also directly observed by the president through his visit in February 2022.

Abstract

This research focuses on the relation of elite H. Andiwarto with sub-elite and village community in maintaining Masra family dynasty for village head position. Masra family dynasty has run for a long time. For 150 years, Masra family descendants occupy the village head position. The survival of Masra family dynasty in the Gapurana Village Government is studied in the relation of H. Andiwarto, who is Masra descendant with sub-elite and village community to maintain Masra family descendant dynasty as a village head. This research used a qualitative method with descriptive research type. The elite theory proposed by Suzanne Keller was used to analyze the relation of elite, sub-elite, and the community. This theory has 4 (four) indicators: the governing elite, the ruling elite, the not ruling elite, and the community. Based on these indicators and the results of this research, the relation built by H. Andiwarto in maintaining Masra family dynasti consists of three relations: relation with the political elite, relation with economic elite, and relation with the social elite. The political elite’s relationship is vital in maintaining the Masra family descendant dynasty. In contrast, the relation between the economic elite and the social elite supports relations for keeping the legitimacy of the village community towards Masra descendants.

Abstract

Conflict is an integral part of social life, including in the school environment. Interactions between students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and with different personalities often lead to conflict. If not managed properly, conflict in the school environment can result in aggressive behavior, bullying, and other acts of violence. Schools, as educational institutions, play a strategic role in shaping the character and social skills of students. One approach that can be applied is conflict resolution education, which focuses on developing communication skills, empathy, and peaceful problem-solving (Deutsch et al., 2016). Based on this urgency, this community service program aims to provide conflict resolution skills training for students at SMA Negeri 7 Kota Malang. The main target of this activity is 10th grade students so that they have effective conflict resolution skills to create a safe and conducive learning environment. The material provided covers the causes of conflict and Simon Fisher's five quadrants of conflict resolution, namely Avoiding, Dominating, Accommodating, Problem Solving/Collaborating, and Compromising (Fisher et al., 2001). By equipping students with these skills, they are expected to be able to resolve disputes constructively without resorting to violence. Conflict resolution educational interventions in schools can reduce aggressive behavior and increase positive relationships between students. Conflict resolution skills also contribute to building a more inclusive and harmonious school culture.

Abstract

This research discusses disputes in the 2024 General Election process involving Ummat Party, the General Election Commission of Republic of Indonesia (KPU), and Election Supervisory Agency of Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI). This research also examines the dynamics of the conflict between the General Election Commission of Republic of Indonesia (KPU) and Ummat Party because of Decree of KPU number 528 of 2022 and the inconsistency of data and information. Ummat Party’s dissatisfaction led to fraud in its membership across two provinces. Tensions escalated as Ummat Party openly rejected the decision, only to end when it was declared eligible to contest the 2024 General Election. According to the research results, there was a miscommunication during the selection of political parties, and the dispute intensified due to fraud allegations. Therefore, to understand the reasons and effects of the administration of the 2024 General Election, the dynamics of this disagreement were analysed. This study finds that the fundamental causes of the dispute are data discrepancies, miscommunication, and a perceived lack of transparency during the factual verification. Nevertheless, the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU) demonstrated its dedication to transparency and objectivity, adhering to electoral principles and existing regulations. This case highlights the vital significance of data accuracy and effective communication in preserving the integrity and public confidence in electoral processes. This qualitative research used interviews and documentation. The data analyses were performed using Conflict Theory, particularly the application of conflict wheel indicators. The informants were representatives of the General Election Commission of Republic of Indonesia (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI). At the same time, Ummat Party refused to be interviewed.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the capacity of local tour guides in the Lasem Heritage City area, Rembang Regency, Central Java. The main problem faced by the tour guide community in Lasem is the lack of official and standardized guides that can be used as a common reference in conveying information to tourists. This has an impact on inconsistencies in the delivery of historical and cultural narratives, as well as reducing the quality of the tourism experience. In addition, some guides also still need to improve their communication skills, interesting guiding techniques, and digital media-based promotional strategies. In response to these needs, this community service activity was carried out through a series of collaborative processes between academics and the local community, starting from compiling the content of the “Jelajah Kota Pusaka Lasem” guidebook, training in delivering history-based narratives, to strengthening promotional skills and the use of social media. This activity also involved the cultural community and active guides in the process of compiling materials, validating content with local historians, and conducting guide simulations as a means of practice. This activity uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method which places the community as the main subject. The results of this program showed that the mentoring activity succeeded in increasing the understanding, confidence, and quality of narrative delivery by tour guides. The guidebook that was compiled has become a common reference that strengthens the consistency of information and the tourist attraction of Lasem as a heritage city. This program also opens up space for ongoing collaboration between local stakeholders in developing community-based cultural tourism in a more systematic and sustainable manner.
