Abstract

Uji kesepakatan antar rater didapatkan nilai ICC termasuk kategori baik (r=0.886, 95% confidence interval (CI)). KATA KUNCI: obat kumur chlorine dioxide, klorheksidin, indeks plak, indeks O’LearyChlorine dioxide mouthwash effect in reducing plaque accumulation: a randomized controlled trial with two-period crossover studyABSTRACTIntroduction: Dental plaque is one of the factors causing dental caries. Chemical plaque control is achieved through the use of mouthwash. Chlorhexidine (CHX) and chlorine dioxide (ClO2) mouth rinses help reduce plaque on tooth surface. This study aims to analyze the differences in plaque score reduction after using ClO2 and CHX mouthwash. Methods: This research utilized a randomized controlled crossover design with purposive sampling. The research was conducted on 30 students in grades 4-6 at SD Islam Bakti Asih Kabupaten Bandung, divided into two groups. Group I was instructed to rinse with ClO2 and Group II with 0.2% CHX, twice daily for three days. After a seven-day washout period, each group switched to the opposing mouthwash. Plaque scores were measured before and after mouth rinse use using the O’Leary index. Inter-rater reliability was tested using Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC).  The result demonstrated that the ICC of all examiners was in good agreement (r=0.886, 95% confidence interval (CI)). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and unpaired t-tests. Results: This research shows that plaque scores before and after using mouthwash decreased significantly (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in plaque scores reduction between ClO2 and CHX mouthwash (p=0.414). Conclusion: There was a difference in plaque scores before and after using ClO2 and CHX mouthwash, and there was no difference in reduced plaque scores between ClO2 and CHX mouthwash. ClO2 mouthwash could be an alternative additional treatment for reducing plaque in children.KEY WORDS: chlorine dioxide mouthwash, chlorhexidine, plaque index, O’Leary index

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are considered good cadres to be able to socialize with this healthy dental behavior. Therefore, designing a dental health education program is necessary to prepare adolescents to socialize with dental health behavior. Purpose: This study evaluates the pilot training for trainers using persuasive communication to socialize dental health behavior. Methods: Thirty-five participants (13-16 years old) are trained by a persuasive communication coach and practice the skills with a simulated client”this one-day training has a two-phase structure; lectures and practicum. The evaluation is done through three out of four-level methods from Kirkpatrick (1959). The data analysis used for the reaction evaluation is descriptive statistics, calculating the average score per category of training support assessment items (curriculum, facilitator, accommodation, and overall score). The learning outcome analysis resulted from an analysis of the pre-post test results using the N-Gain value and paired T-test. Behavior outcomes were also analyzed descriptively by calculating the average score of all participants in every timeline (baseline and two weeks after the training). Results: evaluation of this training revealed that "reaction” has an average total score was 4.02, which shows that the participants were satisfied with the training, "learning” has an N-Gain acquisition of 48.28%, and "behavior” level shows a good outcome as an increased in points from 3.4 to 4.2. Conclusion: The training program produced thirty cadres ready to implement the program in the community.

Abstract

Introduction: Dental and oral health or cleanliness is one indicator to measure the effectiveness of brushing teeth, particularly concerning the type and shape of toothbrush and the way of brushing teeth. The aim of the study was to find out the effectiveness of plaque index decrease before and after brushing teeth using two different types of the toothbrush.  Methods: The investigation was carried out using single-blind and parallel quasi-experimental methods.  The sample comprises 30 people from Bandung City aged between 6 – 7 years old, selected through purposive sampling.  The subjects were directly categorized into two groups of treatment.  Patient Hygiene Performance Modification (PHP-M) used to measure the amount of plaque. Results: The data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test.  The straight-handled toothbrush yielded a score of 11.967 in the paired t-test.  This score is higher than the t-table (t = 2.160; p < 0.05), which meant that the H0 is rejected.  The angled-handled toothbrush had a score of 7.385 in the paired t-test.  The score is higher than the t-table (t = 2.131; p < 0.05), which meant that the H0 is rejected.  The statistical analysis using independent t-test yielded a score of 1.814, which was lower than the t-table (t = 2.048; p > 0.05). Thus, meaning that the H0 is accepted. Conclusion: It was concluded that there is no difference in the plaque index before and after brushing teeth using the two types of the toothbrush.

Abstract

Extrusive luxation is an outward or incisal displacement of teeth due to trauma with long- term complications, namely pulpal necrosis and periapical inflammation. Endodontic treatment that can be performed on immature permanent incisor is regenerative endodontics or apexification. The aim of this case report is to evaluate the effectiveness of calcium hydroxide paste as a dressing material in regenerative endodontic treatment. A 7 year old girl patient was brought by his mother to the Children's Dental Polyclinic at RSGM UNPAD with complaints that the front maxillary teeth touched the ground. The results of the clinical examination showed that tooth 11 was extruded by 4 mm and had a mobility level of 2 and the gums were swollen and exposed labial to apical third. The treatment carried out was fixation and orthodontic treatment but after 6 months of treatment tooth 11 returned to extrusion. Radiograph showed radiolucency in periapical region 11, negative vitality test, grade 1 mobility test and 4 mm probe test in mid-buccal region. The treatment performed is regenerative endodontics. Currently, patients use calcium hydroxide paste as a dressing material to treat periapical abscesses. After 3 months of treatment, from the patient's periapical X-ray, it can be seen that the radiolucent appearance in the periapical area has begun to decrease. Calcium Hydroxide Paste is an effective dressing material for regenerative endodontic treatment of immature permanent incisor with dentoalveolar trauma.
