Abstract

Introduction: The impact of oral health on quality of life of pregnant woman can be measured with the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP 14). OHIP 14 is a measuring instrument that measures the functional limitations, physical pain, psychological discomfort, physical disability, psychological disorders, social disorder and disability. validity and reliability of a questionnaire is needed to measure the impact of dental health. The objectives of this study was to get the data validity and OHIP14 questionnaire reliability in pregnant woman. Methods: The research material that OHIP questionnaire 14 that has been adapted to the language and culture of Indonesia. Analysis of the questionnaire on the validity and reliability used correlation test. Research conducted by accidental sampling. Population study was pregnant woman who went to the beauty clinic in Banjaran District of Bandung. Sample study was pregnant woman. The inclusion criteria of sample is in good general state of health, exclusion criteria that do not have a systemic disorder. Result: Validity OHIP14 is the value of R calculated in the range from 0.495 to 0.647, r value calculated in 95% confidence level is 0.374 and in 99% confidence level is 0.474. The coefficient of reliability of 14 item instrument is 0.944. Conclusion: 14 OHIP questionnaire given to pregnant woman to be stated is valid and reliable.

Abstract

Introduction: The need of dental care is defined as a collection of dental and oral treatment in which according to dental personnel should be obtained by a certain period in order to achieve good dental health status. According to WHO, the productive age is the age group between 35-44 and is considered as the standard age for checking the adult oral health condition. The objective of this research was to obtain the necessity of oral health data at productive age in Cilayung village. Method: The research method was descriptive with cluster sampling technique. Samples of 80 respondents were obtained by pathfinder surveys technique. The necessity of dental care was assessed using WHO oral health surveys and the dental condition of respondents were checked using mouth glass. Result: The results shows that the highest number of caries prevention is as many as 80 people (100%) and the need for one surface treatment as many as 75 people (93.75%). Conclusion: The research concluded that the people in Cilayung village is in high need of caries and surface treatment.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Formal education is the main place for children to improve their knowledge. Teachers are the sources of information which is easily received by children, so the teacher’s role in children’s education is very important. Oral health training able to improve the skills and information resource in a community. Teachers, as the trainee, can play a role in improving the access to information regarding oral health. The objective of this research was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of the teachers before and after the performance of initial training on oral health care. Methods: Questionnaires, with the research variables were knowledge, attitude, and practice of oral health care. The study population was Arraffi Elementary School teachers. The sampling technique was total sampling. The data collecting was done by distributing questionnaires and self-report before and after training. Results: Wilcoxon test shown that P-value pretest and posttest of knowledge was 0.675, attitude was 0.354, and practice was 0.129. Knowledge regarding oral care showed an increasing in achievement percentage. Posttest results of attitude showed the increase in the percentage of positive and negative statements. Posttest results on practice showed some behavior having an increasing percentage, but one behavior remain unchanged. There was no significant difference of knowledge, attitude and practice before and after initial training. Conclusions: There was no impact of initial oral health training on teacher’s knowledge, attitudes, and actions change.Keywords: Knowledge, Attitude, Practice, Teacher, Training

Abstract

Introduction: Oral hygiene status is a condition of a person’s oral cavity. Oral hygiene status can be assessed using Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S) by Greene & Vermillion. The education given regarding dental health is one of the health promotion with the purpose to increase the ability of children in terms of maintaining and improving their oral hygiene. The purpose of this study was to determine the oral hygiene status of the orphan children in Ar-Rohman Foster Home Bandung before and after being given dental health education (DHE). Methods: This research was pre-experimental research with one group of pretest-posttest design with total sampling technique. Subjects of this research were orphans aged 13-15 years old. The respondents got the clinical examination of OHI-S at before and after the respondent was given dental health education. The data obtained then tested using the normality test, if the data were normally distributed analysis, then analyzed with a paired t-test, and if the data were not normally distributed, will be analyzed with a Wilcoxon test. Results: The results showed a significant decrease of plaque index after dental health education was given to the orphans. The examination of the calculus index (CI-S) did not show any change before and after dental health education. OHI-S of children, however, showed a significant decrease. Conclusion: There was an increase in the oral hygiene status of the orphan children in Ar-Rohman Foster Home Bandung after being given dental health education.

Abstract

Introduction: Caries risk assessment is an effort performed to determine the causes of dental caries and the caries risk of the children. The purpose of the study was to determine the caries risk of pre-school children and the possible preventive home-treatment in reducing the risk. Methods: This research was descriptive with sampling method used was the total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Irene’s Donuts caries risk form to determine the caries risk and preventive treatment of the children. Caries risk assessment data was presented in the form of frequency distribution tables. Results: The first-year research resulted as follows: distribution of caries risk frequency based on the interview conducted towards the parents in Ulul Azmi and Amanah Kindergarten, regarding their education, age, children’s habits, showed that the highest risk (88.9%) in both kindergartens was found in children who still drink milk with pacifier bottles until more than four-years-old. The second highest risk amongst Ulul Azmi Kindergarten students (88.9%) was found in children with daily candy consumption; the highest risk amongst Arroyyan Kindergarten (90%) was tooth decay which considered not interfering the children’s development with the pH level below 6.5. Regarding the treatment choice of the students, the most choices taken amongst Ulul Azmi Kindergarten parents were helping their children brush their teeth at night before bedtime; assuring the children’s sufficient water consumption in Amanah Kindergarten parents; assuring the children’s vegetable and fruits contained menu in Arroyyan Kindergarten parents. Conclusion: The highest caries risk of pre-school children is tooth decay, with the possible preventive home-treatment, were helping the children to brush their teeth at night before bedtime, assuring the children’s sufficient water consumption, and assuring the children’s vegetable and fruits contained menu.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kesehatan gigi Ibu hamil sangat perlu dijaga, untuk menghindarkan terjadinya infeksi pada gigi dan gusi. Upaya ini akan menghindarkan dari infeksi yang berisiko yang menyebabkan prematur dan kelahiran berat bayi lahir rendah. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui pengalaman karies dan kesehatan periodontal dan kebutuhan perawatan ibu hamil. Metode: Metode penelitian yang digunakan deskriptif. Populasi penelitian adalah ibu hamil yang datang ke Klinik Cantik Banjaran Bandung. Sampel penelitian yaitu ibu hamil yang bersedia menjadi subjek penelitian dan tidak mempunyai kelainan sistemik. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah convinience sampling. Variabel penelitian pengalaman karies diukur dengan indeks DMFT, Kebutuhan perawatan karies adalah perhitungan kebutuhan perawatan berdasarkan penilaian persen kebutuhan perawatan dan kebutuhan perawatan periodontal diukur dengan indeks Community Periodontal Index and Treatment Needs (CPITN). Analisis data yang digunakan adalah distribusi frekuensi relatif. Hasil: Indeks DMFT ibu hamil 4,4 termasuk kriteria sangat rendah. Hasil CPITN yaitu periodontal sehat 0%; bleeding on probing (BOP), 43%; kalkulus, 53%; poket 4-5 mm, 3,3%; poket 6 mm, 0%. Kebutuhan perawatan gigi berlubang pada ibu hamil 30,9%. Kebutuhan perawatan jaringan periodontal diperlukan pada semua ibu hamil, berupa perbaikan oral hygiene 43%, perbaikan oral hygiene dan skeling 56%, Simpulan: Pengalaman karies ibu hamil pada kriteria sangat rendah, sedangkan kondisi jaringan periodontal ibu hamil semuanya memerlukan perawatan jaringan periodontal tetapi bukan perawatan periodontal kompleks. ABSTRACTIntroduction: The oral health of pregnant women needs to be maintained to avoid infection of the teeth and gums. This effort will avoid dangerous infections that can cause premature and low birth weight babies. The purpose of this study was to determine the caries experience, periodontal health, and the oral treatment needs of pregnant women. Methods: The research method was descriptive. The study population was pregnant women who came to the Cantik Clinic of Banjaran, Bandung, whom willing to be the subject of research with no systemic abnormalities. The sampling technique was convenience sampling. The caries experience was measured by DMFT index. Caries treatment needs were the calculation of treatment needs based on the assessment of general and periodontal treatment needs measured by the Community Periodontal Index and Treatment Needs (CPITN) index. Data analysis used was the relative frequency distribution. Results: DMFT index of pregnant women was 4.4, included in the very low criteria. CPITN index measurement results were 0% healthy periodontal; 43% bleeding on probing (BOP); 53% calculus; 3.3% pocket of 4-5 mm; and 0% 6 mm pocket. General treatment needs of pregnant women mostly were tooth decay treatment (30.9%). Periodontal treatment needs were needed for all pregnant women, in the form of oral hygiene improvement only (43%), oral hygiene improvement and scaling (56%). Conclusion: The caries experience of pregnant women was very low, while the periodontal conditions require a non-complex periodontal treatment.Keywords: Pregnant women, DMFT Index, CPITN index.

Abstract

Pendahuluan:Orang tua sangat mendasari terbentuknya perilaku pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut anak. Orang tua dianggap memiliki pengetahuan untuk mengajarkan anaknya berbagai hal dasar mengenai menjaga kesehatan tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran perilaku orang tua tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi pada anak Sekolah Dasar Negeri Mekarjaya. Metode:Penelitian ini merupakan penelitan deskriptif dengan metode survei berupa pengisian kuisioner. Metode pengambilan menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh (total sampling). Sampel merupakan orang tua (Ibu) murid SDN Mekarjaya yang berjumlah 55 orang. Hasil:Perilaku orang tua tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi pada anak yang meliputi pengetahuan adalah sebesar 55% termasuk dalam kategori kurang baik, sikap sebesar 77,37% termasuk dalam kategori baik, dan tindakan sebesar 75,38% termasuk dalam kategori baik. Simpulan: Perilaku orang tua tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi pada anak Sekolah Dasar Negeri Mekarjaya yang meliputi pengetahuan pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi memperlihatkan hasil yaitu kurang baik sedangkan sikap dan tindakan dikategorikan baik.ABSTRACTIntroduction: Parents strongly underlie the formation of childrens oral health care behavior. Parents are considered to have the knowledge to teach their children various basic things about maintaining a healthy body. This study aims to determine the description of parents behavior about dental health maintenance in children of Mekarjaya State Elementary School. Methods: This research is a descriptive research with a survey method in the form of filling out a questionnaire. The retrieval method uses saturated sampling technique (total sampling). The sample is the parents (Mothers) of 55 Mekarjaya Elementary School students. Result: Parents behavior about dental health maintenance in children which includes knowledge is 55% included in the unfavorable category, attitudes of 77.37% are in the good category, and actions of 75.38% are in the good category. Conclusion: Parents behavior about dental health maintenance in children of Mekarjaya Elementary School which includes knowledge of dental health maintenance shows results that are not good while attitudes and actions are categorized as good.Keywords: Behavior, parents, maintenance of dental health.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Pola hidup sehat sudah menjadi kebutuhan pada setiap individu saat ini. Faktor orang tua merupakan faktor yang dominan dalam menerapkan pola hidup sehat khususnya pada kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Pengetahuan dan tindakan mengenai kesehatan gigi dan mulut dari orang tua sangat diperlukan. Peranan seorang ibu dalam kesehatan gigi anaknya adalah sebagai motivator, edukator, dan fasilitator. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan dan tindakan pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada ibu yang memiliki anak bawah tiga tahun. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan metode survei. Sampel sebanyak 50 ibu yang memiliki anak bawah tiga tahun dan bersekolah di PAUD kelurahan Sukajadi. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Hasil: Penelitian menunjukkan pengetahuan pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut 84,4% dalam kriteria baik, 15,6% dalam kriteria cukup dan untuk tindakan pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut 22.2% kriteria baik, 62,2% kriteria cukup dan 25,6% kriteria kurang. Simpulan: Pengetahuan ibu yang memiliki anak usia bawah tiga tahun di Paud Kelurahan Sukajadi menunjukkan kriteria pengetahuan yang baik dan tindakan yang cukup mengenai pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut dilihat dari penggunaan sikat gigi, penggunaan pasta gigi, membersihkan gigi, dan kunjungan ke dokter gigi. ABSTRACTIntroduction: A healthy lifestyle has become a necessity for every individual today. Parent factors are the dominant factors in implementing a healthy lifestyle especially in dental and oral health. Knowledge and actions regarding dental and oral health from parents are needed. The role of a mother in the dental health of her child is as a motivator, educator, and facilitator. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge and maintenance of dental and oral health in mothers who have children under three years. Methods: This type of research is descriptive with survey methods. A sample of 50 mothers who had children under three years old and attended PAUD Sukajadi village. Data retrieval is done using a questionnaire. Result: The study showed that the knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance was 84.4% in good criteria, 15.6% in sufficient criteria and for dental and oral health care measures 22.2% good criteria, 62.2% sufficient criteria and 25.6% criteria less. Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang buruk pada ibu hamil dapat memberikan dampak negatif pada perkembangan janin. Indeks yang digunakan untuk menilai akibat klinis dari karies yang tidak dirawat yaitu Indeks PUFA yang mencatat keparahan karies gigi dengan keterlibatan pulpa (P), ulser akibat trauma dari gigi (U), fistula (F) dan abses (A). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kriteria Indeks PUFA pada ibu hamil di Puskesmas Puter Bandung. Metode: Penelitian deskriptif dengan metode survei dan pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan dengan teknik simple random sampling. Jumlah sampel penelitian 96 ibu hamil yang datang memeriksakan kehamilan di Puskesmas Puter Bandung. Data diperoleh dengan cara pemeriksaan klinis terhadap rongga mulut ibu hamil dan dicatat pada formulir pemeriksaan untuk Indeks PUFA lalu diolah dan disajikan dalam bentuk tabel. Hasil: Sebanyak 90,95% hasil penelitian menunjukkan subjek dengan komponen P, sebanyak 6,38 komponen U, sebanyak 2,12% komponen F, dan sebanyak 0,53 komponen A. Simpulan: Mayoritas ibu hamil di Puskesmas Puter memiliki indeks PUFA dengan kategori buruk. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Poor oral and dental health in pregnant women can have a negative impact on fetal development. The index used to assess the clinical consequences of untreated caries is the PUFA Index which records the severity of dental caries with pulp involvement (P), ulcer due to trauma from the tooth (U), fistula (F) and abscess (A). This study aims to determine the PUFA Index criteria for pregnant women in Bandung Puter Health Center. Methods: Descriptive research with survey and sampling methods carried out by simple random sampling technique. The number of samples of the study were 96 pregnant women who came to have a pregnancy check up at the Bandung Puter Health Center. Data obtained by clinical examination of the oral cavity of pregnant women and recorded on the examination form for the PUFA Index then processed and presented in table form. Result: A total of 90.95% of the results showed subjects with component P, as many as 6.38 components of U, as much as 2.12% of component F, and as many as 0.53 components of A. Conclusion: The majority of pregnant women in Puter Health Center had a PUFA index with bad category.Keywords: PUFA index, untreated caries, pregnant women.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kesehatan gigi dan mulut anak usia 4-5 tahun penting untuk diperhatikan. Masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut dapat menyebabkan rasa sakit dan tidak nyaman sehingga berdampak negatif pada kualitas hidup anak. Kesehatan gigi dan mulut terkait kualitas hidup anak usia 4-5 tahun diukur dengan menggunakan instrumen The Early Childhood Oral Impat Scale (ECOHIS). Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mendapatkan gambaran kesehatan gigi dan mulut terkait kualitas hidup anak usia 4-5 tahun di Desa Cilayung. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif. Sampel penelitian adalah ibu yang mempunyai anak berusia 4-5 tahun yang terdaftar sebagai siswa TK Al-Iffah dan RA Rahayu di desa Cilayung dengan jumlah 50 orang yang diperoleh dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengisian data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner The Early Childhood Oral Impact Scale (ECOHIS). Hasil: Masalah gigi dan mulut selama 3 bulan terakhir paling banyak yang dilaporkan oleh orang tua adalah Early Childhood Caries (ECC). Simpulan: Kesehatan gigi dan mulut terkait kualitas hidup anak usia 4-5 tahun di Desa Cilayung termasuk dalam kategori cukup berdampak. ABSTRACTIntroduction: The oral health of children aged 4-5-years-old is very important issues. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the oral health related to the quality of life of children aged 4-5-years-old in Cilayung Village. Methods: This research was descriptive research. The research sample was mothers with children aged 4-5-years-old children who were registered as Al-Iffah Kindergarten and Rahayu Islamic Kindergarten students of Cilayung village, with the total of 50 people, which obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data was filled using the Early Childhood Oral Impact Scale (ECOHIS) questionnaire. Results: The most frequent oral problems reported were Early Childhood Caries (ECC). Conclusion: Oral health related to the quality of life of children aged 4-5-years-old in Cilayung Village was included in the category of moderate impact.Keywords: 4-5-years-old children, oral health related quality of life, ECOHIS.
