Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of pouring temperature on defect quality in aluminum castings for beverage cans, using the Lost Foam Casting method. The results indicate that pouring temperature significantly influences casting quality. Higher pouring temperatures improve casting quality by increasing fluidity, allowing the molten metal to better fill the mold cavities. Conversely, lower pouring temperatures reduce the aluminum's flowability. Observed defects primarily include cavities or small holes ranging in size from approximately 0.28000 µm to 0.6843 µm, suggesting porosity defects. Larger cavities (0.6843 µm) likely result from gas entrapment or shrinkage during cooling, while smaller cavities may be due to gas trapped on the surface of the castings.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential use of coconut fiber (SSK) as an acoustic material composite that supports the development of environmentally friendly local material-based room partition infrastructure, so the study focuses on analyzing the acoustic properties of SSK composites. This study uses experiments with variations, namely fiber treatment with liquid smoke immersion for 1, 2, and 3 hours. Furthermore, it is heated at a temperature of 40ºC for 30 minutes. Furthermore, SSK-reinforced composite specimens are made by preparing resin and fibers with a fiber length of 10 mm, 70% SSK composition, and molded, then composite acoustic specimens are made. The results of this study obtained environmentally friendly composite materials for soundproof room partitions, where the acoustic properties of SSK-reinforced composites show that the treatment can increase the sound absorption coefficient. So, it can be concluded that SSK-reinforced composite acoustic materials can be used as environmentally friendly room partition materials.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential utilization of banana stem fiber (BSF) as a locally sourced composite material to support building infrastructure in North Maluku. The research focuses on analyzing the tensile and impact properties of the composite. An experimental method was used, incorporating different treatment durations for the fibers by immersing them in liquid smoke for 1, 2, and 3 hours. The treated fibers were then heated at 40°C for 30 minutes. The next step involved fabricating BSF-reinforced composite specimens by preparing the resin and fibers, with a fiber length of 10 mm and a composition of 30% BSF and 70% resin. Tensile and impact tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties of the composites. The results showed that the tensile strength of the P3J composite increased to 88.351 MPa, representing a 3.79% improvement compared to the untreated composite (TP). Meanwhile, the impact strength showed the highest increase after 1 hour of immersion, reaching 10.911 KJ/m, which is 25.45% higher than TP. These findings indicate that liquid smoke treatment enhances the tensile and impact properties of the composite.

Abstract

Research in the field of internal combustion enigine using environmentally friendly fuels must be the main focus to increase efficiency, engine performance, reduction of exhaust gas emissions to clean combustion. Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) on the diesel engines can be used as an innovative solution to increase thermal efficiency and reduce emissions through bending of fuels with different reactivity. This paper presents a comprehensive review of hydrogen-induced fuels systems on RCCI engines, as well as its impact on engine performance, emissions to Clean Combustion. Various studies show that mixing hydrogen in RCCI engines can increase thermal efficiency, speed up the combustion process, and reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate metter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and Smoke Opacity emissions. This review provides insight into the trend of development of hydrogen-induced RCCI on diesel engines and its prospects in realizing a clean and efficient combustion system, so that future research focus is important for finding appropriate fuel mixtures, operating parameters, and choosing optimal engines by considering technical problems, thermodynamics, economics, and the environment, as well as exploring the potential implementation of this technology in the future.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of SSK treatment with liquid smoke on the morphology and acoustic properties of SSK reinforced composites. The research method is an experimental method with variations in fiber treatment by soaking in liquid smoke for 1, 2 and 3 hours. Next, after soaking the fiber, it is heated in an oven at 40ºC for 30 minutes, then the resulting fiber morphology is observed using a JEOL JCM 6000 SEM tool then SSK reinforced composites are made for acoustic testing, specimen making is done by preparing resin and long fibers. 1 cm fiber, 60% resin composition and 40% SBP, after drying a composite acoustic test specimen was made. The results show that SSK treatment with liquid smoke increases the fiber morphology to become rough and porous, so that the SSK reinforced composite has a sound absorption coefficient value for the SSK TP composite of 0.1175 db, while the SSK P1J, P2J, and P3J composites have a sound absorption coefficient value of 0.1304, 0.1199, and 0.1181 db. , this shows that the SSK P1J composite is better in sound absorption by 10.92% when compared with SSK TP, so it can be recommended as an environmentally friendly acoustic material.
