Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of pouring temperature on defect quality in aluminum castings for beverage cans, using the Lost Foam Casting method. The results indicate that pouring temperature significantly influences casting quality. Higher pouring temperatures improve casting quality by increasing fluidity, allowing the molten metal to better fill the mold cavities. Conversely, lower pouring temperatures reduce the aluminum's flowability. Observed defects primarily include cavities or small holes ranging in size from approximately 0.28000 µm to 0.6843 µm, suggesting porosity defects. Larger cavities (0.6843 µm) likely result from gas entrapment or shrinkage during cooling, while smaller cavities may be due to gas trapped on the surface of the castings.

Abstract

Dodola Island Tourism is one of the tourist destinations located on Dodola Island, Morotai Island Kabupatean applies two Big Dodola Islands and Little Dodola. This study aims to determine the level of service quality and satisfaction of visitors or tourists in. Then find out how much influence the quality of service consisting of five dimensions, namely Physical Evidence, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, Attention, on tourist satisfaction in Dodola Island Tourism with using Simple service quality (servqual) methods with SPSS tools. Data collection was carried out through literature study, field observation and questionnaire distribution to 25 respondents. The results of this study show that the level of service quality in Dodola Island Tourism is sufficient, while the level of tourist satisfaction is not good, because one dimension, namely Physical Evidence, is included in the category of not good. Therefore, Dodola Island Tourism needs to improve physical evidence is a dimension that has a limited presentation, which is 0.9698. This means that it is in the category of not good and is in the interval range of 0.9671, that is, it is in perception and expectation. Significantly to the satisfaction of tourists on Dodola Island Tourism.

Abstract

Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coatings are well-regarded for their high hardness, low friction coefficient, and excellent wear resistance, making them suitable for enhancing surface properties in demanding industrial applications. This study aims to analyze the effect of DLC coating on HQ 805 steel, focusing on improvements in surface hardness and surface roughness. HQ 805 steel, which is known for its mechanical durability, was coated using the Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) method to achieve a uniform and adherent thin film. Hardness was evaluated using the Vickers microhardness test, while surface roughness was measured with a profilometer. Results showed a significant increase in surface hardness, with the coated samples achieving up to 798 VHN. It represented a 25–30% increase compared to the uncoated steel at 355 VHN. Surface roughness exhibited only a slight increase (5–7% Ra), indicating the thin layer and uniform deposition achieved with DLC without adversely affecting the surface finish. These results confirm that PVD-applied DLC coatings can effectively enhance the mechanical surface performance of HQ 805 steel without compromising surface quality. The optimal coating condition was found at 400°C for 4 hours. This research shows the potential application of DLC-coated HQ 805 steel in high-wear industrial environments extending component service life and improving operational efficiency.
