Abstract

Background: Dental problems often lead to missing teeth. After tooth extraction, the alveolar bone will undergo a healing phase, and this will cause some vertical and horizontal resorption. Immediate implant placement can shorten treatment time and preserve the rest of the alveolar bone. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present a case of oral function, equilibrium and aesthetic rehabilitation using immediate implant placement. Case: A male patient aged 31 came to Dental Hospital Universitas Airlangga with a fractured anterior tooth. The tooth had fractured two weeks before he came to the hospital, and he wanted to improve his appearance. Case management: The mandibular incisor was fractured, and its residual root remained. The treatment plan was to undertake an immediate implant placement. The type of implant chosen was a bone level tapered implant SC roxolid® SLA Ø 2.9 mm and 10 mm long. Surgery was performed in two stages. The first stage was to extract the residual root, position the implant and apply the bone graft. The second stage was to position the healing abutment. A crown impression was made using the closed tray technique. The crown was cemented to the abutment. Conclusion: Immediate implant placement is an aesthetic means of rehabilitating a missing tooth, such as an anterior mandibular tooth.

Abstract

Background: Hemisection is an alternative treatment option for maintaining tooth with multiple root that indicated for extraction. Purpose: To reported tooth with multiple root indicated by extraction to be used as a fixed-fixed bridge abutment by extracting the infected root and maintain the healthy one. Case: A 53-year-old woman with caries in upper 1st molar teeth in mesiobuccally root that can't be maintained. Patients refuse the teeth to be extracted. Case Management: Hemisection treatment was performed on 26 mesiobuccal root, with the addition of bone graft. After the healing process, fixed-fixed bridges were made on 25, 26, 27, 28, with PFM on 25, 26, 27 and full cast crowns on 28 as the material. Discussion: Hemisection as a conservative treatment, can be an option for multiple  root teeth that has been indicated for extraction but still have root that can be maintained. Conclusion: Teeth performed by hemisection treatments can be used as abutments with attention to the selection of patients to achieve long-term success.

Abstract

Background: Immediate complete overdentures are designed for placement denture immediately following the extraction or decapitation of natural teeth. This procedure overcome the challenges associated of esthetic problems, including functional difficulties and psychological issues. Purpose: The article aims to highlight the advantages of endodontic-prosthodontic approach through immediate overdenture, such as the preservation of alveolar bone and improvement in patient’s psychological well-being and quality of life. Case: A 60-years-old female came into Universitas Airlangga Dental Hospital with the chief complaint of missing multiple teeth with upper front teeth becoming loose and desire to replace them because of difficulty in chewing food. Case Management: Diagnostic impressions were taken using irreversible hydrocolloid material, then poured in the dental stone to create final impression. The treatment plan included endodontic treatment, scaling and root planning for 11. The vertical dimension of occlusion was established using a bite rim and mounted on an articulator. Then, the immediate overdenture was created by arranging artificial teeth. Before the denture insertion, 11 was decapitated and filled the orifice with glass ionomer cement. Extraction of 21, 22, 23 was carried out and after ensuring hemostasis, the immediate overdenture was inserted. To finalize the denture insertion, occlusion was assessed using articulating paper. Control was done after day 1,3 and 7 after denture insertion. Conclusion: This case report describes the effectiveness of immediate overdentures as a valuable treatment option through endodontic-prosthodontic approach. By providing a functional and aesthetic solution while minimizing the edentulous period, immediate dentures significantly enhance patient’s quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health, which is an inseparable part of general body health, is still widely ignored since adolescence. Maintaining the integrity of teeth is an important part of dental and oral health. Tooth loss can cause functional, aesthetic, and social problems, reduce a person's quality of life, and can be an effective indicator of community oral health. Purpose: Empowering and educating about dental and oral health for adolescents to increase their awareness of dental and oral health. Method: Dental and oral health counseling and dental health examinations were conducted on 50 adolescents, students of Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Ulum, Melirang, Gresik. This study included quantitative and qualitative methods to assess changes in knowledge and perceptions about denture care among participants. The stages of implementation carried out in this study included pre-test, counseling, question and answer, post-test, dental and oral examination. Results: The examination results showed that out of 50 teenagers at MA Miftahul Ulum, Melirang, Gresik, 0 used dentures, 0 had caries + missing teeth, 0 had missing teeth, 3 had restorations, 5 had caries + remaining roots, 9 had remaining roots, 9 had caries, and 29 had no abnormalities. The results of the post-test questionnaire showed an increase in insight, compared to the pre-test. Conclusion: The conclusion of the activity showed that there was an increase in adolescents' knowledge and understanding of dental and oral health, as well as the importance of using dentures.

Abstract

Background: Poor bone quality, sometimes caused by osteoporosis, can lead to dental implant failure. Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) can differentiate into osteoblasts and offer an alternative therapy for poor bone conditions. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effect of hUCMSCs induction on the extent of osseointegration by the new bone formation area of dental implants in osteoporotic animal models. Methods: The samples were divided into two groups, i.e., control and induced hUCMSCs groups at different times. An ovariectomy was performed to assess the osteoporosis condition. The control group was injected using gelatin, and the treatment group was administered hUCMSCs. Terminations were conducted at 2 and 4 weeks, respectively. The collected samples were then subjected to histological examination to analyze new bone formation and its proportion. In addition, alkaline phosphatase staining was also performed to evaluate the mineralization area. The data was analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: Both for new bone formation area as well as the proportion of new bone, it was observed that the best results were in the group with induction of hUCMSCs at 2 weeks. Alkaline phosphatase staining also confirmed that the highest mineralization was observed in the same group. Conclusion: hUCMSCs induced new bone formation in the implant placement in osteoporotic animal models.

Abstract

Background: Soft tissue asymmetry, alveolar bone shortage, and anterior tooth loss are common presentations for patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP), which makes restorative rehabilitation more challenging. The cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and time optimisation of digital dental workflows for the production of fixed restorations or prostheses have shown them to be superior to conventional ones. In these situations, achieving both functional stability and aesthetic harmony calls for an all-encompassing, multidisciplinary strategy. Purpose: This report aims to describe the restorative and prosthodontic management of anterior tooth loss in a post-CLP patient using a bilayered zirconia fixed crowns within a fully digital workflow. Case: A 23-year-old female presented with a missing maxillary left lateral incisor (tooth 22) and a history of multiple CLP surgeries, the most recent performed in January 2023. Radiographic evaluation revealed significant alveolar bone resorption (>50%) at the edentulous site. The patient had undergone orthodontic treatment since 2017 but had not received prior restorative and prosthodontic rehabilitation. Case Management: A bilayered zirconia fixed crowns was planned to restore esthetics and function. Pre-treatment procedures included endodontic therapy on tooth 12, intraoral scanning, and diagnostic mock-up. Intraoral digital impressions enabled precise CAD/CAM fabrication. To address Class II gingival recession, 2–3 mm of gingival-colored porcelain was applied to mimic natural soft tissue. A modified ridge lap pontic was designed to optimize hygiene and achieve a lifelike emergence profile. Conclusion: Bilayered zirconia restorations, combined with a digital restorative approach, offer favorable esthetic and functional outcomes in post-CLP anterior rehabilitation.
