Abstract

Holistic service in Christian theology emphasizes the integration of social service and evangelism as integral parts of the church's mission. Participant-centered training methods, such as LePSAS, are utilized to facilitate participant-oriented learning. These activities employ LePSAS training methods applied in community service activities to equip participants with knowledge and skills concerning holistic service. Activity evaluations indicate that participants gain a deeper understanding of holistic service and community development. Despite challenges such as field practice session cancellations, participants are still able to implement their learning in their service contexts. The implementation of holistic service through LePSAS training methods contributes positively to expanding participants' understanding and skills in applying holistic service. Activity evaluations serve as a foundation for developing more effective training programs in the future. Thus, these activities underscore the importance of holistic service in the context of Christian theology and the effectiveness of participant-centered training methods in strengthening holistic service.

Abstract

PkM within the framework of Progsif 2023 involves several crucial stages. These stages encompass preparation, execution, monitoring, evaluation, and publication. Through these stages, the PkM aims to provide benefits to the community, promote biblical values, and integrate an understanding of religious values into everyday life. The event is scheduled to span five days with a focus on understanding specific biblical texts relevant to themes such as sustainable living, the relationship between humanity and nature, and the importance of environmental preservation. Participants will receive guidance to help them apply these values in their daily lives. Furthermore, it is essential to note that this event also involves ongoing monitoring and evaluation stages. This means that the PkM team will continuously monitor and evaluate the event's progress during its implementation, enabling the identification of areas requiring improvement or adjustment. In summary, Progsif 2023 and its related PkM activities have a clear goal of providing benefits to the community while promoting biblical values, environmental stewardship, and a better understanding of humanity's role in creating a sustainable environment. Overall, this represents a positive step in supporting community engagement centered around religious and environmental principles.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the presence of various theological reflections. One of the topics discussed was about God's providence. This paper will present a theological reflection based on the book of Esther on God's providence. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive exegesis approach by focusing on the structure of the book of Esther. This study found that although there is no name "God" in the book of Esther, God still shows His providence. The absence of the name Allah shows that human actions are not in a different domain. God chose Esther, a woman who came from an “ordinary” background. So that during the pandemic, we are required to actively participate in caring for others as a form of God's care.

Abstract

Cultural engagement is not an option but a duty. This article discusses the cultural mandate used to criticize the separation between sacred and secular. The cultural mandate will be explained through definitions and theological reviews found in various literature. Then, the author will show their critique of the separation between sacred and secular based on their understanding of the cultural mandate within the Christian worldview. This research article uses the library research method. This method will examine previous findings on the dualistic worldview and the cultural mandate from various literary sources such as books, academic journals, and online news with a narrative review approach. The result highlights the importance of understanding the cultural mandate within the cosmic context of the Bible's metanarrative (Creation-Fall-Redemption) as a strong foundation to reject this sacred and secular dualism. Every Christian needs to understand that they no longer need to live in a world that is separated between sacred and secular, but they can dedicate their entire life to Christ for the glory of God.

Dengan melihat konteks budaya, sosial, dan historis, artikel ini menjelaskan bagaimana pendekatan ini dapat membantu pembaca memahami dinamika identitas kelompok yang dihadapi oleh para tokoh dalam Injil. Abstract

This article explores the interaction between intellect and will in education according to the thoughts of John Calvin, as well as its relevance to Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy. Calvin emphasizes the importance of balancing intellect and will in the pursuit of truth, which aligns with Freire’s principles that encourage students to think critically and reflectively. The process of contemplation in Calvin's thought, where individuals reflect on knowledge to influence their will, mirrors Freire's reflective approach in critical education. Furthermore, both emphasize the freedom in decision-making, where individuals should act based on true knowledge and moral values. Calvin's thoughts also highlight the importance of social transformation, in line with Freire's vision of creating individuals who are not only intellectually competent but also morally committed to improving society. This article employs qualitative research methods. The findings indicate that the thoughts of Calvin and Freire complement each other in shaping a framework for education that is critical and oriented towards social change.

Abstract

God, as the Creator of the earth and everything in it, declared all creation good, including nature. Through nature, God provides for the survival of all living beings. This paper focuses on forests as part of God’s good creation, emphasizing their crucial role in sustaining ecological balance and providing food sources. However, Indonesia’s forests are in crisis due to rampant encroachment driven by various factors. As stewards of creation, believers—and especially the church—are called to respond. This study urges the church to actively reject forest encroachment and fulfill its cultural mandate as a form of ministry and service. The church must engage in practical steps to protect forests, such as delivering context-relevant environmental sermons, encouraging holistic land stewardship among congregants, offering environmental education, and promoting collective awareness and responsibility. In doing so, the church contributes to preserving God’s creation and demonstrates faithful obedience to the Creator’s mandate.
