Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder with hyperglycemia caused by abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Diabetes mellitus can be controlled if the patient regularly controls it and adheres to treatment to prevent complications. There are several factors that influence compliance, one of which is family support. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between family support and adherence to anti-diabetic medication in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study uses a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach.  Sampling using the purposive sampling method with a total sample of 70 respondents. The instruments used were the family support questionnaire and the MMAS-8 questionnaire. Data analysis using Spearman rho test. Results: There was a relationship between family support and adherence to taking anti-diabetic medication in type 2 DM patients. Based on the statistical results of family support and adherence to taking anti-diabetic medication (p = 0,020) and the correlation coefficient was 0,277. This result is positive, which means the higher the family support, the greater a person's compliance with taking medication. Conclusion: In this case, family support is important for type 2 DM patients because it will help improve the patient's quality of life and help type 2 DM patients improve treatment adherence.

Abstract

Constipation is a condition often found in pregnant women that has an impact on physical, psychological, and social disorders such as discomfort, hemorrhoids, disturbed body image, and decreased quality of life. Papaya is highly recommended for pregnant women as a non-pharmacological therapy to treat constipation. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of papaya juice on constipation in pregnant women. Method: This type of quantitative research is a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. In the intervention group, 35 pregnant women received papaya juice therapy, while 35 pregnant women in the control group received therapy by drinking warm water. Bivariate analysis with an independent T test and a paired T test The results showed that there was a significant difference in the mean posttest constipation score between the intervention group and the control group (p = 0.001), the average pretest and posttest constipation score in the intervention group (p<0.001), and the average pretest and posttest constipation score in the control group (p<0.001). The decrease in the average constipation score of pregnant women in the intervention group after being given papaya juice was 0.2 (5.71%) lower than the average constipation score of pregnant women in the control group after being given warm water, which was 0.62 (17.14%). Conclusion: Papaya juice is efficacious in reducing symptoms of constipation in pregnant women. Midwives are expected to provide health education on how to prevent constipation by consuming more fruit and vegetables and doing enough activity during pregnancy

Abstract

There is existing concerns from clinical education that nursing students need to improve confidence on clinical performance. Confidence is basis of nursing education and determines graduates’ level of competence to enter workforce. Confidence promotes safe and effective patient care. However, it is challenging to understand concept of confidence and how nurse educators instill confidence with innovative teaching strategies. The purpose of this review is to discuss concept of confidence, factors influencing confidence, and teaching strategies to improve students’ confidence. Science Direct, EBSCOhost, and Pubmed databases were used to identify evidence based research related to students’ confidence and teaching strategies. The key words included confidence, nursing students, teaching strategies, and clinical performance. The articles were selected based on objectives, relevance, and year published. The result suggested that simulation should be modified by other strategies such as repeated simulation, team based learning, and self-debriefing. Another strategy is multidisciplinary teaching using technological tool such as video podcasting, immersive 3d interaction, game-based learning and video-based learning. Clinical confidence is an essential element in students’ clinical performance. Innovative and creative teaching strategies are needed to instill nursing student’s confidence. Further studies are needed in assimilation of teaching strategies for nurturing students’ clinical confidence.
