Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci: menopause, hipertensi, pemberdayaan masyarakat, edukasi kesehatan, deteksi dini Abstract Menopause is a natural physiological phase experienced by all women as they age, typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55. This phase is characterised by the permanent cessation of menstruation due to decreased estrogen and progesterone levels, which affect the cardiovascular system and increase the risk of hypertension. The low awareness among menopausal women regarding routine blood pressure checks has led to many cases of hypertension going undetected in its early stages. Therefore, empowerment efforts through education and early detection of hypertension among menopausal women are essential. This community service activity was carried out in the working area of Kota Tengah Public Health Centre, Gorontalo City, involving 45 menopausal women as participants. The implementation methods included interactive health education, blood pressure measurements, and knowledge evaluation using pre-test and post-test assessments. The results showed a 42% increase in participants’ knowledge, from 35% before the activity to 77% after the education session. In addition, 40% of participants were found to have hypertension, most of whom had never undergone blood pressure screening before. Community-based health education proved effective in enhancing awareness, behaviour, and practical skills related to hypertension prevention. In conclusion, this program successfully improved the knowledge, awareness, and skills of menopausal women in preventing hypertension. Early detection through self-monitoring of blood pressure serves as a strategic step to reduce hypertension incidence among high-risk menopausal women. Abstract

Introduction: Low birth weight (LBW) is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality in developing countries. This study analyzed the relationship between maternal reproductive health indicators and LBW incidence at the Pasean Health Center, Pamekasan.Method: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 72 third-trimester pregnant women followed until delivery. Data on maternal age, interpregnancy interval, nutritional status, and antenatal care (ANC) visits were obtained through interviews and anthropometric measurements. Infant birth weight was measured within 24 hours postpartum. Logistic regression analysis was used with a 5% significance level. Results: The prevalence of LBW was 15.3%. Maternal age 20 years significantly increased the risk of LBW (AOR=2.45; 95% CI: 1.18–5.07; P=0.016), while short interpregnancy interval (24 months) also showed a significant effect (AOR=1.87; 95% CI: 1.02–3.45; P=0.042). Poor maternal nutritional status emerged as the strongest predictor (AOR=3.12; 95% CI: 1.58–6.15; P=0.001).Conclusion: These results highlight the importance of improving maternal nutrition, ensuring adequate birth spacing, and delaying early pregnancies. Strengthening primary health care interventions focusing on preconception and antenatal nutrition is essential to reduce LBW and improve neonatal health outcomes. Keywords: Antenatal care, low birth weight, maternal nutrition, pregnancy interval, reproductive health

Abstract

Abstract Introduction: Disaster nutrition management is an important competency for medical students, particularly in disaster-prone areas where vulnerable groups are at risk of nutritional problems due to limited access to food and health services. The Disaster Nutrition Community-Based Learning (DNCBL) model was developed as an educational innovation that integrates disaster nutrition concepts, community-based learning, case discussion, and contextual problem solving. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the DNCBL model in improving medical students’ understanding of disaster nutrition management. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study was conducted among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test instruments and analyzed descriptively and inferentially using a paired sample t-test. Results: The mean score increased from 14.20 ± 1.166 before the intervention to 14.79 ± 0.581 after the intervention. The number of students achieving the maximum score increased from 35 students (57.4%) to 52 students (85.2%). The paired sample t-test showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The DNCBL model was effective in improving medical students’ understanding of disaster nutrition management and may serve as an innovative learning approach in disaster-related medical education.
