Abstract

Distribution transformer is a component in distributing electricity from distribution substations to consumers. Damage to distribution transformers causes continuity of customer service to be disrupted (power cut or blackout occurs). The length of the PLN electricity network requires a transformer to distribute electricity to serve consumers and how to maintain the transformer. The daily load curve of a peak load for housing, shops and factories / industries varies. Load served 200 kVA distribution transformer cannot serve the load on housing, shops and factories / industry. The method used is the replacement of a distribution transformer with a capacity of one stage greater or the replacement of a distribution transformer with a capacity of two levels larger. The distribution transformer carried out by the research is a capacity of 200 kVA replaced by 250 kVA. The ability of a distribution transformer cannot accommodate a load which will increase as an area is advanced. Observations made by calculating the age of the transformer by assuming the annual load growth (r) = 3% = 0.3. Annual peak load (P) = 1.8 p, u increase in oil temperature at peak load (θo = 96.21 0C; 84.16 0C). The increase in the hottest temperature above the oil cover, the increase in the temperature of the hottest place above the oil (θg = 20 0C; 20 0C). The ratio of the load loss to the nominal load excitation loss (Q = 3; 30). By assuming the values of these methods it can be estimated that the life of a distribution transformer is 20 kV, a capacity of 200 kVA is 18 years.

Abstract

To support the production process of a home industry or large industry, tools or machines are needed. For example, in an industry that produces peanut bread, there is a process of peeling the peanuts, both the shells and the shells, which takes a lot of time and labor. To help overcome these problems, this research designed a semi-automatic peanut shell peeler. The machine works as a grinder where the roasted nuts are put into a grinding mill that has been spaced so that the peanuts that enter will be peeled. The machine is driven by an electric current that is to run a permanent magnet DC motor and sensor. For that we need a source of DC electricity. As a supplier of electricity, NRE energy is utilized, namely sunlight obtained by a 20WP solar panel and equipped with a backup battery to store electric current. It is hoped that the designed machine can support productivity and can be used in villages or remote areas where there is no PLN electricity.

Abstract

In Karangtaruna School Dropout Youth Training activities in Kotamatsum IV, Medan Area Medan City District has a very dense population, motivated by various tribes, different livelihoods and low parental education. As for the level of life there are still many who live below the average, with poor conditions, where parents are unable to pay for adolescents for school, causing many teenagers who drop out of school and unemployed .. With the Youth Training activities Karangtaruna teenagers dropping out will provide knowledge and ability in installing electricity and AC services to school dropouts from disadvantaged families, assisting the administration of Kotamatsum IV in realizing non-governmental organizations through Youth Organization, to provide skills, so that they have competence in finding work, or entrepreneurship in the field of installation. Abstract

AbstractThe introduction of oil spinner machines at SMK Negeri 04 Medan is part of a community service program that aims to improve students' knowledge and skills in the field of oil processing technology. An oil spinner machine is a tool used for the process of separating oil from raw materials, which has important applications in the food processing industry and agricultural raw materials. This program is carried out in the form of workshops and direct demonstrations involving students and teachers of SMK Negeri 04 Medan. The main objective of this activity is to provide an in-depth understanding of the function, working principle, and operation of oil spinner machines, as well as the benefits of this technology in industry. In addition, participants are given the opportunity to operate the machine directly and understand its practical application in the oil production process. During the activity, the material presented includes an explanation of the working principle of the oil spinner machine and its role in the oil processing process. Direct practice using an oil spinner machine to process various raw materials and see the results. Information on machine maintenance and safety procedures during operation. The results of this community service show an increase in students' understanding of oil processing technology as well as an increase in practical skills in using oil spinner machines. This activity also provides insight into career opportunities in the oil processing industry and helps prepare students to enter the workforce with relevant technical skills. Overall, this program successfully achieved its objectives and had a positive impact on engineering education at SMK Negeri 04 Medan, as well as strengthening the relationship between educational institutions and industry.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk melaksanakan pelatihan penggunaan water chiller hasil modifikasi dari unit outdoor AC split berkapasitas 1 kW di Kelurahan Belawan Bahari, Kecamatan Medan Belawan, Medan, Sumatra Utara. Pelatihan ini dirancang untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat setempat dalam menggunakan teknologi pendinginan yang efisien dan terjangkau untuk berbagai aplikasi, termasuk penyimpanan makanan, pengolahan bahan, dan pendinginan ruangan. Water chiller yang dimodifikasi ini merupakan hasil inovasi dari unit AC split konvensional, yang telah disesuaikan untuk mengalirkan air dingin dengan efisiensi yang optimal. Pelatihan melibatkan sesi teori dan praktik, di mana peserta mempelajari cara kerja water chiller, instalasi, serta perawatan dan pemeliharaan sistem. Selain itu, peserta juga diberikan informasi mengenai manfaat teknologi ini dalam meningkatkan kualitas hidup sehari-hari dan efisiensi energi. Hasil dari pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memahami dan dapat menerapkan teknik penggunaan water chiller dengan baik. Dengan pemahaman ini, diharapkan masyarakat dapat memanfaatkan teknologi pendinginan secara efektif untuk keperluan mereka, yang pada akhirnya akan berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas hidup dan efisiensi biaya dalam kegiatan sehari-hari mereka. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat melalui teknologi yang inovatif dan relevan dengan kebutuhan lokal mereka.

Abstract

Conventional blind canes have limitations in providing accurate information about the user's environmental conditions, especially in recognizing obstacles and determining location. Therefore, this study aims to design and build a smart blind cane equipped with ultrasonic sensors and a microcontroller-based GPS system. This cane is designed to help blind users detect obstacles around them and determine their location more independently. The main system of this cane consists of an ultrasonic sensor to detect the distance of obstacles in front of the user and a GPS module to track the user's location. Data from the sensors and GPS are processed by a microcontroller, which then provides feedback to the user through vibrations and sounds. When an obstacle is detected within a certain distance, vibrations will be activated to provide a warning, while location information can be accessed through an application or other supporting devices. The test results show that this blind cane has a high level of accuracy in detecting obstacles up to a distance of 2 meters and fairly good positioning accuracy with an integrated GPS system. This cane can improve the mobility and sense of security of users in different environments. Thus, this design makes a positive contribution to assistive technology for the blind, enabling them to be more independent in their daily activities.

Abstract

Fire is one of the events that can cause major impacts, ranging from material losses to life safety risks. To overcome this, technology is needed that can detect and extinguish fires quickly, especially in areas that are difficult to reach or too dangerous for humans. This study aims to design and develop a prototype of an Arduino-based automatic fire extinguishing robot equipped with a fire sensor and camera. The fire sensor is used to detect the presence of a fire source, while the camera functions as a visual support tool that helps the robot navigate and identify the position of the fire more accurately. This robot is designed to be able to move independently to the fire point after successful detection. Once close enough, the robot will activate the extinguishing mechanism to put out the fire. This prototype was tested in various environmental scenarios and varying fire intensities to measure the level of detection accuracy, response speed, and effectiveness in the extinguishing process. The test results show that the robot is able to detect and extinguish small-scale fires with a high success rate. Although there are still some limitations in terms of speed and detection distance, this prototype shows great potential as a supporting technology for fire extinguishing, especially for high-risk areas. With further development, it is hoped that this robot can function as a supporting device in handling small-scale fires and as a solution to maintain human safety from direct exposure to fire risks.
