Abstract

During rainy season, a various type of litter can enter the ocean through rivers. This is a significant contributor to the amount of marine litter in the waters. In order to access the type, composition, and density of the litter during rainy season, this study was conducted in Manado Bay, North Sulawesi. The observation was done on the litter stranded on the beach, and they were classified into two different size groups, macro (>2,5 cm)- and meso (0,5-2,5 cm)-sizes. Malalayang Beach and Bailang Beach were chosen for the location of the study. Litter type, composition, and density was evaluated according to National Marine Litter Monitoring Guide. The result showed that there were 7 types of macro-size and 6 types of meso-size marine litter in Malalayang Beach and it was dominated by glass and ceramic for both sizes. In Bailang Beach, 9 types of macro-size and 7 of meso-size were found, and it was dominated by plastics. It can be concluded that various type of marine litter present in Manado Bay, both macro- and meso- sizes, during the rainy season. The highest composition was the glass and ceramics type. However, the highest density was the plastic type.---Pada musim hujan, berbagai jenis sampah dari daratan masuk ke perairan pantai melalui sungai.

Abstract

Coral reefs are massive deposits of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) produced by coral animals.  Coral reefs in the water are easily damaged due to natural events and destrutive human activities in the water and the influence of upland.   The purpose of this paper is to provide information related to the recovery of coral reef ecosystems through coral recruitment and coral transplantation and the role of the community.  The method used is the quantitative method.  Recruitment and transplantation use media as a place to attach or bind coral fragments.  Coral recruitment is done by relying on the reproduction of the coral itself, while transplantation is done by taking coral fragments from the broodstock. The placement of coral recruitment and transplantation media needs to pay attention to water depth, brightness, substrate, sedimentation, and water current patterns.  In addition, the government, community, and related parties are needed to handle damage and maintain and manage coral reef ecosystems for sustainability. Abstract

The dynamics of swamp waters are developing very rapidly in terms of fulfilling the economic needs of the community to support prosperity. Fishing activities are one aspect of realizing these needs. Therefore, this research aims to find alternative fish bait in the swamp of Wasur Village, Merauke Regency, South Papua. Crickets (Acheta domesticus) were chosen as an alternative bait because they are still related to traditional bait, namely kroto. This research was conducted for three months (July-September 2023) using quantitative descriptive methods. The fishing technique used is using a fishing rod as is often used by the local community so that it is easy to adopt later. The research results showed that the two most dominant fish species caught were Climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) and Snakehead fish (Channa striata). There were 60 Climbing perch caught, while 42 snakehead fish were caught. Analysis of the relationship between length and weight shows that both fish species have negative allometric growth patterns. This means that the increase in body length of the fish is faster than the increase in weight. Crickets have been proven to be an effective alternative fish bait in the Kampung Wasur swamp.
