Abstract

Abstract

Acute wounds are tissue injuries that are at risk of infection so they require good treatment and care. Aloe vera (Aloe vera L) contains glukomanan compound that are thought to be beneficial in the wound healing process. Spray preparations in the treatment of wounds can provide concentrared content, dry quickly, and easy to use. The purpose of this study was to examine the spray activity of Aloe extract as an acute wound healer in male balb/c mice. This research method is experimental research. The steps that have been carried out include maceration extraction from Aloe vera simplicia powder with 70% ethanol which is then thick extracted in freeze drying to powder extract. Aloe vera spray preparations are made with concentrations of 1%, 3% and 5%. Balb / C mice that had made full thickness acute wounds were divided into 5 treatment groups namely positive control (PC), negative control (NC), F1, F2, and F3. Mice were treated for 14 days then the wound ratio was calculated and analyzed with one way anova test followed by post hoc tukey cramer test. The results showed that the higher of the percentage of Aloe vera extract is the higher of the wound healing activity.

Abstract

The development of infection cases and inappropriate use of antibiotics has led to cases of antibiotic resistance. An alternative to overcoming the many antibiotics that are already resistant to bacteria has led to the discovery of new antibiotics. One of the processes of discovering antibiotics is from microorganisms, namely bacteria. The exploration process for the discovery of antibiotics uses a bacterial growth phase approach, namely the stationary phase which produces secondary metabolites, one of, which are bacteria that contain antibiotic compounds. Te.325 isolate is a producer of bacterial antibiotics but The growth phase is not yet known and can be used to approach the process of obtaining antibiotics. The study was to obtain the growth phase time of the Te.325 isolate and to extract antibiotic compounds from the isolate. The determination of the growth curve is based on the weight of cell biomass and the absorbance value on UV/ Vis spectrophotometry of the culture sampled every day for 14 days of culture incubation. The results showed a log/exponential phase on 5th day and a stationary phase on 9th day. The activity test of the ethyl acetate extract was carried out using the well method with an extract concentration of 40%, which resulted in an average diameter of 8.04mm in Staphylococcus aureus and 9.035mm in Escherichia coli. The ethyl acetate extract of Te.325 has medium potency.

Abstract

Background: Burns are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Intensive treatment is necessary to prevent infection and manage erythema in burn wounds. This case study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a combination ointment containing Kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) leaf extract and Manuka honey in treating second degree superficial burns. Methods: A case study design employing evidence-based practice was used. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and physical examination. The study was conducted from October 14-28, 2023 in Mirikerep Hamlet, Pringsurat Village, Temanggung Regency, Indonesia. A comprehensive nursing care approach was implemented, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Results: Macroscopic examination revealed a significant reduction in wound area from 5.5x3 cm to 0.5x0.3 cm after treatment with the combination ointment. The ointment effectively promoted epithelialization and tissue regeneration in the healing process of second-degree superficial burns. Conclusions: The combination ointment containing Kersen leaf extract and Manuka honey demonstrates potential as an effective treatment for second degree superficial burns. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms underlying its therapeutic effects.
