Abstract

The growing complexity of health care services requires more structured interprofessional collaboration to ensure service quality and patient safety. This study aims to examine the contribution of interprofessional collaboration in improving nursing care quality by reviewing national and international research. A literature review design was employed, involving 30 selected articles related to interprofessional teamwork, effective communication, and collaborative care models. The findings indicate that collaborative education, clear communication, and well-defined professional roles are key elements that strengthen team coordination. Models such as Interprofessional Education (IPE), Clinical Pathway, Team STEPPS, and multidisciplinary approaches consistently enhance service effectiveness and reduce the risk of medical errors. Nevertheless, challenges such as workload demands, competency gaps, and hierarchical organizational culture still hinder optimal collaboration. In conclusion, interprofessional collaboration is an essential strategy for advancing nursing care quality and patient safety, thus requiring strong institutional support and reliable communication systems

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Nurse performance is a crucial aspect in improving the quality of health services. Nursing rounds, as a professional method, have been identified as an effective strategy for improving nursing care, patient satisfaction, and nurse performance. This study aims to analyze the impact of nursing rounds on the implementation of nursing care through a literature review of six selected articles. Method: This article uses a literature review method with article selection criteria based on relevance, peer-reviewed journal quality, maturity (2016–2025), strong methodology, and contribution to the field. Six articles were selected: four from Indonesia ((Astuti et al., 2021); (Meri et al., 2022); (Lastari & Kartika, 2023); (Setiawan et al., 2023)) and two international articles ((Mulugeta et al., 2020); (Wasfie & Heeter, 2025)). Data were collected from databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed, with a synthesis analysis of the findings. Results: Findings show that nursing rounds improve patient satisfaction (score increased from 71.02 to 79.69, p=0.001), nurse knowledge (from 51% to 68%), and team collaboration. Benefits include critical thinking, rapid diagnosis, better care plans, and thorough evaluation. Domestic articles focused on local training, while international ones emphasized clinical outcomes such as error reduction. Conclusion: Nursing rounds effectively improve nurse performance and care quality, with strong empirical support. Conclusion: Nursing rounds effectively improve nurse performance and care quality, with strong empirical support. Round training is recommended for hospitals, with suggestions for technology integration, long-term evaluation, and comparative research for global adaptation ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Kinerja perawat merupakan aspek krusial dalam meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Patient safety is a fundamental component of modern healthcare and a key indicator of hospital quality. However, the high number of patient safety incidents in Indonesia indicates that the implementation of risk management and safety culture in inpatient rooms is not optimal. This literature review aims to analyze the implementation of nursing care in the context of risk management and patient safety in hospitals based on 30 national and international studies published between 2019-2025. Articles were obtained through Google Scholar, PubMed Central, and SINTA indexed national journal portals. The results showed that the successful implementation of patient safety is influenced by individual nurse factors (knowledge, attitudes, caring behavior), organizational factors (management support, the role of the head of the room, SOPs), and system innovations (incident reporting and information technology). The main barriers found include lack of training, blame culture, limited human resources, and low incident reporting. Meanwhile, the implementation of continuous training, managerial supervision, and open reporting systems were shown to improve compliance with patient safety standards. This study emphasizes the importance of interprofessional collaboration and the implementation of Evidence-Based Nursing Practice to create safe, effective, and patient-oriented care.
