Abstract

Based on the Ottomans' archival materials, it has become incumbent upon the Ottoman or Balkan historian to investigate and analyze as objectively as possible the history of Ottoman rule in this region. Among all the Ottoman archives' documents, those of the judicial records (Shari’ah or Qadi Sijils) are considered to be the most important. In them, we have both a reliable objective source and a chronology of history concerning the Balkans and other regions. These records were not merely compilations of bureaucratic, administrative, and verbose data relating only to judicial, social, architectural, economic, and agricultural undertones. These facts are already explicitly stated in the Sijils themselves. It is, however, implicit facts which are of great importance and which are of enormous historical significance. The demographic structure is among the most complicated and disputed issues among the historians of religion and social sciences. Considering the objective data found in the Shari’ah Sijils, particularly to those about the most important district of the Ottomans in the Balkans, namely Manastir (today Bitola), the subject of demography will be analyzed as objectively as possible. Besides, in this article, both explicit and implicit facts will be studied.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Studies have found that engaging with poetry through poetry reading helps individuals develop positive outlook in life and cope with difficult experience. Poetry has a unique ability to express complex emotions, making it useful for building resilience. This study aims to explore how poetry especially Islamic poetry could serve as a cultural resilience strategy during the pandemic. Cultural resilience refers to the unique way cultural backgrounds such as values, norms, supports, language, and customs can help facilitate an individual or a community to overcome adversity (Clauss-Ehler, 2004). This present study employed reader-response method, involving 21 student-readers who attended Poetry class at Sultan Agung Islamic University, Indonesia. The class was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic. Three plague-themed Islamic poems were introduced in the poetry reading, such as: The Cholera (1974) by Al-Malaika, The Black Death Plague (1348) by Ibn al-Wardi, and The Night Visitor (c.960) by Al-Mutannabi. This study found that reading poetry positively affected students who have genuine interest in aesthetic reading. The enjoyment in poetry reading could serve as a protective factor for the readers through three major mechanisms: a reminder to the Islamic concept of qadr or preordainment, the consciousness cultivation of pandemics as a shared experience, and the development of empathy out of those experiences. Keywords: Cultural Resilience, Covid-19 Pandemic, Islamic Poetry, Plague, Readers Response. Kelas diadakan selama pandemi Covid-19.

Abstract

Old romantic songs of the 1980s linger; especially for people, at the moment, in their 60s or so. Such songs are rich in moral teaching, applicable in any religion on earth. The current study which examined Benjamin S’ and Ida Royani’s the same song lyrics Tragedi Cinta but of different versions aimed to construe the meanings of both songs viewed from their textual-metaphoric representations. The two song lyrics were analyzed employing a software application UAMCT 6.8, adopting Hallidayan SFL on thematic progression, leading to their modes of the discourse. Also dealt with herein is the use of both grammatical and lexical metaphors to examine how meanings are realized. The findings show that ‘female’ is marginalized in three ways, namely (1) the use of active voice without any attempt to hide the identity for doing sincere things as opposed to ‘male’ put in passive voice to hide the identity for doing bad things, (2) the use of marked themes indicate high literary values employed in both song lyrics, (3) the use of both lexical and grammatical metaphoric styles implies excellently-written song lyrics, and (4) moral teaching of both song lyrics is also highlighted to give evidence of ‘female’ marginalization and it is, thereby recommended to avoid romantic juvenile delinquency, especially of the millennial generation termed as ‘digital natives’ who can get access to abundant information without limit of time and space; no matter how hard the social, religious and familial authorities try to ban the negative impacts of the world’s largest information technology industry.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe the legal confusion that arose after the Minister of Research and Technology of Higher Education Regulation No. 5 of 2019 on the Advocate Professional Program was passed. One of the clauses in this regulation has stipulated that the Advocate Education Program is organized by a tertiary institution that has the accreditation value “B” and collaborates with advocate organizations while the Constitutional Court Decision stipulates that Advocate Professional Special Education is organized by Advocate Organizations in collaboration with tertiary institutions that have the accreditation value “B”. In addition, the factors that cause the legal confusion and how it affects the advocate education after disharmony are also the focus of this article. To reveal the various legal perceptions related to this theme, the author uses a qualitative method with a juridical normative approach. The data and information can be had by data of library and the several articles related to up-to-date themes in Indonesia. The conclusion in the article is that the legal chaos that occurred was caused by the factor of sectoral ego, the law-making factor, the weakness of Legal education, and the accountability of Advocate Education Financing. second, the implementation of advocate education had not yet had the formulation and standards, both for the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, that it is all legal education in tertiary institutions and for the various advocate organizations. To anticipate the four issues that have been discussed, it is deemed necessary to conduct legal deliberations in providing win-win solutions.
