Abstract

The research examined the effect of ela sago compost on the soil chemical properties, growth, P-uptake, and yields of corn plants (Zea mays L) in Regosol soils. A randomized block design with a 2 x 4 factorial treatment was applied. The first factor was ela sago compost (B) with three dose levels: B0 = 0-Mg ha-1, B1 = 10-Mg ha-1, and B2 = 20-Mg ha-1. The second factor was SP-36 (P) fertilizer with four dose levels: P0 = 0 kg P ha-1, P1 = 60 kg P ha-1, P2 = 120 kg P ha-1, and P3 = 180 kg P ha-1. This research shows that either ela sago compost or SP-36 fertilizer can increase the soil reaction (pH). Applying sago palm compost and SP-36 fertilizer increases soil available P from 17.33 to 60.67 ppm. Applying sago palm compost and SP-36 fertilizer increases plant P-uptake from 0.18 to 0.40 %, plant height from 135.60 to 189.67 cm, and stem diameter from 1.86 to 3.44 cm, and corn yield (dry weight of 1000 seeds) from 266.60 to 390.57 g.

Abstract

This study aims to identify sources of pollution and determine the magnitude of the potential pollution load from pollutant sources in the Wai Batu Merah watershed, Sirimau District, Ambon City. The method for identifying sources of pollution is carried out by using saturated or census sampling methods, calculating pollutant loads using direct methods for point source pollutant sources and indirect methods for non-point sources . The direct calculation method uses wastewater discharge data and the results of wastewater quality analysis results from measurements directly at the point source pollutant wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The wastewater sampling technique uses the grab sampling method. While the indirect method uses effluent factors and supporting data from non-point source pollution sources that have been identified in the Wai Batu Merah watershed. The results showed that the pollutant sources found in the Wai Batu Merah watershed were point sources originating from hotel and health facility activities and non-point sources originating from domestic activities from residential areas, agricultural and livestock businesses, non-point source land (forest and open land), micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), small scale industries and waste. The dominant pollutant source in the Wai Batu Merah watershed comes from domestic non-point sources. The highest point source pollution loads for BOD, COD and TSS parameters in the Wai Batu Merah watershed came from hotel activities in segment 6 with the contribution of each parameter of 17.82 kg/day, 23.82 kg/day and 0.029 kg/day. Meanwhile, the highest non-point source pollution load for BOD, COD and TSS parameters came from non-point source waste in segment 6 with the contribution of each parameter of 2825.3 kg/day, 3884.8 kg/day and 2684.03 kg/day.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to: increase the knowledge and skills of Dasawisma mothers in Keranjang hamlet in making Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) which is used to increase soil fertility in vegetable farming and increase family income after they can produce their own organic fertilizer and sell it as a side business. Keranjang Hamlet in Wayame Village is the location of this community service activity. Counseling and training for participants (mothers in Keranjang Hamlet), as well as application in the field are activity techniques used to achieve the expected results. Based on the results of the activity, there was an increase in knowledge about making POC by Dasawisma mothers because they produced POC products. The results of POC treatment to the soil using kale plants showed that the higher the POC dose, the higher the wet weight and height of the kale plants.

Abstract

Application of organic matter (compost Sago Ela palm waste and Liquid Organic fertilizers (LOF)) to the soil could have major benefits, such as to improve the soil physical condition (soil structure, water retention), and soil chemical properties (binding and providing nutrients, increasing CEC). The purpose of this study are (1) to improve the soil chemical properties of Ultisols, and (2) to increase plant uptake of N, P, and K, and the growth and yield of corn (Zea mays L.). The research was conducted in the field, namely in Telaga Kodok Village, Leihitu Sub District, and Central Maluku District. The experiment was designed in a factorial, and arranged in a randomized completed block design (RCBD).  The first factor was the provision of compost Sago Ela palm waste (K) and the second factor was the provision of liquid fertilizer (C). The results showed that the compost combined with LOF could improve pH, Al-exchangeable, Total-N, P-available soil, Uptake-P, Uptake-K, and the dry weight of seed corn. While the treatment of sago Ela palm waste compost and LOF can independently raise the K-available soil, N-uptake, and affect corn’s plant growth (height and trunk diameter). The treatment doses of sago Ela palm waste compost of 60 Mg ha-1 and LOF of 20 mL L-1 solution can increase the exchangeable Al, Total-N, and P-available soil, respectively 0.56 cmol(+)kg-1, 0.21%, and 31.00 mg kg-1; also able to increase the uptake of P, K, and weight dry seed corn respectively 0.21% and 1.26%, and 121.33 g plant-1. The treatment doses of Sago Ela palm waste compost of 60 ton ha-1 and liquid organic fertilizer of 10 mL L-1 solution can increase the soil pH by 5.70.

Abstract

The growth and yield of lettuce can be increased by improving soil fertility, both physical, chemical and biological conditions of soil, through fertilization. The fertilizer given can be organic fertilizer or non-organic fertilizer. Indirectly, soil type also influences vegetable growth and yield. This study aimed to explain the effect of a combination of liquid organic fertilizer and urea on Regosol soil pH, total N, plant N content and red lettuce (Latcuca sativa L) yield. The experiment used a factorial Randomized Block Design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The treatments tried consisted of liquid organic fertilizer with concentrations of 0 mL/L, 2 mL/L, 4 mL/L, and 6 mL/L, combined with Urea fertilizer at a dose of 0 g per pot, 0.3 g per pot, 0.6 g per pot, and 0.9 g per pot. The research results showed that applying liquid organic fertilizer at 6 mL/L of water combined with urea fertilizer at 0.6 g per pot was the best doses that could increase the pH and total N of Regosol soil, respectively with values of 6.03 and 0.27%, as well as increasing N uptake, number of leaves, and freshg weight of red lettuce plants, with respective values of 3.48%, 26.33 leaves, and 40 g.
