Abstract

This qualitative study analyzes the involvement of female perpetrators of extreme violence acts and suicide bombings against the modern state as a symbol of their religious enemies. The topic is crucial as it shows the meaningful reasons for female militancy, where women are seen to exceed their gender norms. It is not because they take their own lives but also to bring their children to embrace death in the process of religious-based violent extremism. This article opposes the idea of gender in binary opposition as female and male, but rather see it as a range of gender spectrum. The understanding of the main symbolic structures here is crucial as it is capable of dismantling aspects that temporarily limit gender roles. At the same time, what they are doing is constructing new ideas that “God do not see you in someone appearance” included their gender, but rather their “action”. It is their way to find justification to support extreme violence, although it is against religious teaching.

Abstract

AbstractThis article is an analysis of the potential of the Mutual Cooperation Economic System (MCES) based on social capital and inclusive cooperation to increase social resilience through BUMDes (Village Owned Enterprises). The village's socio-economic resilience is crucial to review. It is considering that the number of villagers in the last 50 years has decreased up to more than 50%.  Villages seem to lose their productive force due to the process of urbanization interm of horizontal mobility from rural to urban at the national, regional, and global levels, This situation generates economic pressure  to the rural areas  as a process of integrating villagers into market citizens.  Then the second factor is the spatial urbanization characterized by the integration of the village with the city in terms of space and lifestyle. In this situation,  village loses its socio-economic resilience because its productivity tends to decrease. Then pandemic Covid-19 has made the industrial sector laidoff their workers who then returned to villages. The percentage of poverty rate increased from 9.22 percent in September 2019 to 10.14 percent in March 2021. It shows that rural area losses their socio-economic resilience because their productivity tends to decline. This study uses a qualitative research method by conducting observations and Focused Group Discussion with the management to analyze the social-economic potential of the BUMDes Tirtamas Kapanewon, Mlati, Sleman Regency and other BUMDes network as the unit of the study. This study shows that BUMDes Tirtamas has the potency to develop MCES by building a mutual network with Smal and Micro Enterprises included other BUMDes from other villages building a Mutual Cooperation Economic System. The contribution of new ideas is in this study is the idea of Mutual Cooperation Economic System (MCES) as an alternative economy system to coexists with the neoliberal market economy.Key Word: Sosial-Ekonomi, Resilience, Mutual Cooperation, Citizen, VOEs, Neoliberal.

Abstract

The spread of the Covid-19 virus has prompted the government to carry out various restrictions on social mobility, including closing schools. Recent studies have demonstrated the dynamics and problems in online learning, but very few of them reveal innovative online learning best practices. This article analyzes the innovation of multimedia learning and e-learning at SMK Bakti Karya Parigi (SBK), Pangandaran, in developing tolerance. Through phenomenology as a research strategy, the object of research is approached by giving space for experience-based subjectivity. Meanings, attitudes, beliefs, and emotions are important data components. Based on nine months of observations and in-depth interviews with stakeholders, this article discusses how multimedia learning and e-learning innovations are built during a pandemic. The results of this study indicate that this school has developed innovative programs, including the Vocational Balancing Program (VBP). Through VBP, SBK students interact in assisting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in local villages to integrate with the online marketplace. They build creative content that promotes these SMEs amid the sluggishness due to the pandemic. The learning process that involves the dissemination of knowledge, discourse, experience, consciousness, and emotions is what breeds tolerance among SBK students. This study makes a theoretical contribution to the important role of knowledge and discourse, the function of consciousness and emotion, and the workings of discursive practice in the formation of educational subjects.

Abstract

The relationship between humans and the environment has become a central focus in both social and ecological research, particularly among communities reliant on natural resources. This study examines the Sedekah Laut (Sea Alms) tradition practiced in Rowo Village, Kebumen Regency, as a cultural adaptation mechanism to address environmental uncertainty. The primary objective is to understand how this ritual reflects the community’s response to unpredictable natural conditions. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in Actor-Network Theory (ANT), the research explores the interactions between human and non-human actors involved in the tradition, including the sea, ritual objects, community leaders, and local beliefs. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Findings reveal that Sedekah Laut is not only a symbolic expression of gratitude and spiritual reverence toward the sea but also serves as a practical strategy to reinforce communal bonds and manage uncertainty in a changing environment. The sea is perceived as both a provider and a sacred entity, deserving of respect and offerings. Through collective participation in the ritual, the community cultivates a shared sense of resilience, interdependence, and social solidarity. In conclusion, the Sedekah Laut tradition illustrates how local knowledge and cultural practices can function as adaptive strategies in the face of environmental challenges, offering insights into the dynamic relationship between society and nature as conceptualized through Actor Network Theory.
