Abstract

Abstract

Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Kubu Raya is an education facility in Rasau Jaya District, Kubu Raya Regency. The soil type is peat soil, so the kind of soil also influences the quality of water in the surrounding area. The physical quality of peat water is brown and has sediment. Using peat water for bathing, washing, and toileting purposes will result in a brownish color of the kitchen eating utensils and the bathroom tub. Rasau Jaya District has no water supply from the Regional Public Drinking Water Company, so people use peat water for toilets and rainwater for drinking. The research shows that peat water quality exceeds the required standards, so it must be processed before use. Community Service Activities were conducted at MAN 1 Kubu Raya to educate students in processing peat water. The activities carried out were socialization and simulation of peat water processing with simple processing methods such as coagulation and filtration. Students are expected to apply peat water treatment in school and at home with this simple treatment

Abstract

The local population of Pal IX Village in West Kalimantan heavily depends on dug wells as their main source of obtaining clean water. The prolonged consumption of elevated concentrations of manganese (Mn) and iron (Fe) in water sourced from dug wells has neurotoxic effects on both adults and children. Therefore, it is imperative to employ alum and PAC coagulants for the treatment of dug well water in order to comply with the established national quality standard. However, the utilization of both coagulants resulted in an elevation in the levels of iron (Fe), hence restricting the capacity to satisfy the quality standards. An augmentation in the mass of the coagulant is associated with a decline in the reduction efficiency. It is indicated that utilizing a mass of 0.5 grams of alum coagulant is the most favorable choice, resulting in a reduction of 50.14% for total dissolved solids (TDS), 86.25% for color, 97.70% for turbidity, and 94.48% for the concentration of Mn metal. By PAC coagulant, it has been determined that an ideal coagulant mass of 0.5 gram produces favorable outcomes with a TDS reduction of 45.08%, a color reduction of 97.71%, a turbidity reduction of 97.22%, and a Mn reduction of 95.04%. Keywords: Alum; PAC; coagulant; coagulation; dug well water

Abstract

Uric acid is produced in tissues containing xanthine oxidases, like the small intestine and liver, as involved in the purine metabolism of adenine and guanine. High uric acid levels cause damage to cell membranes due to the lipid peroxidase chain reaction. Foods containing high purines will activate the xanthine oxidase (XOD), causing an increase in free radicals. Free radicals attack polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) by forming lipid peroxides. PUFA molecules contain multiple double bonds, which make them susceptible to oxidation by reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as free radicals. PUFA will be broken into simple compounds such as pentane, ethane, and aldehydes, leading to malondialdehyde (MDA) formation. High MDA levels illustrate the process of cell membrane oxidation leading to cell membrane damage. Hyperuricemia is often treated using synthetic drugs such as allopurinol; however, it can cause side effects. Some people will choose medicinal plants with minimal side effects. Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) contains many polyphenol antioxidants, especially flavonoids, which also have a strong antioxidant effect by exerting multiple mechanisms such as inhibiting several enzymes, including antiphospholipid peroxidase, free radical scavengers, metal bonds, and xanthine oxidase (XOD). Statistical analysis results proved that green tea with a dose of 600 mg/kg BW could decrease the level of MDA in the liver by 84.87% (p 0.01) and reduce the activity of XOD by 35.36% (p 0.01). Taken together, green tea can improve liver histopathology.

Abstract

The Integrated Islamic Elementary School (Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu, abbreviated as SDIT) Wisata Hasanah is one of the elementary schools in Pontianak City that implements the independent Murikulum Merdeka. In this curriculum, there is the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (Proyek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila, abbreviated as P5), where students actively address relevant issues in their surroundings. In a previous P5 activity, training on waste sorting based on its types—organic and inorganic—was conducted. A field lecture was held at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) of Batu Layang, Pontianak in this community service activity to raise awareness and concern for the environment, develop responsibility, independence, and critical thinking skills. Waste management education needs to be carried out from an early age to produce human resources with expertise in science and technology, in line with achieving Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045. The students currently in elementary school will be the next generation to continue the nation's development. Activities at the TPA included delivering material, discussions, observations, and student feedback in the form of resumes and responses containing experiences, suggestions, input, and hopes. At the TPA site, students directly observed the facilities, infrastructure, and operational techniques of waste processing. The results of this activity included an increase in students' knowledge about waste management, an understanding of the impact of indiscriminate waste disposal and burning, and a commitment to environmental preservation. Community service is a form of collaboration and knowledge transfer between higher education institutions, elementary schools, and the government (Environmental Agency). Through this activity, it is hoped that students will develop environmental awareness and concern not only at school but also in their surrounding environment.
