Abstract

Adolescence is a time of transition from child to adult. At this point there are various biological and psychological changes that affect the nature of the individual in relationships. Peers are one of the most important factors and should not be underestimated in adolescence. Peer pressure can have a positive or negative impact. Peer pressure and popularity can influence individuals' behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between the intensity of alcohol consumption in relation to peer pressure and popularity among adolescents in NTT. This type of research is quantitative correlation and is tested using Spearman's correlation hypothesis test. The sample in this study included 361 adolescents aged 15-20 years. The sampling technique was carried out according to the convenience sampling method. Collection of data using a questionnaire and analysis using the JASP program. The results of this study indicate that there is an association between peer pressure and the intensity of alcohol consumption (r = 0.165 p = 0.002) and an association between popularity and the intensity of alcohol consumption (r = 0.155 p = 0.155 p = 0.003), such that H0 discarded and H1 is received. The conclusion is that there is a correlation between peer pressure and popularity with the intensity of alcohol consumption.

Abstract

Children with special needs are children who experience abnormalities (physical, mental-intellectual, social, and emotional) and need special attention. In carrying out their daily activities, children with special needs need assistance from their families, especially their parents. The parenting style of parents who have children with special needs is different from children in general. Parents need knowledge about proper parenting for children with special needs. The purpose of this study was to describe the parenting style of children with special needs at SLB Negeri Tenda Ruteng. This research is a type of qualitative research with descriptive methods. Sampling in this study was purposive sampling. The result of this study shows that parenting style is related to the following four things, namely parenting, aprreciation, communication between parents and children, and disciplining.

Abstract

Students who work part-time have greater demands than ordinary students. Many demands make students feel depressed and stressed so they need to do coping. Good problem-focused coping will emerge if students have optimism. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between optimism and problem-focused coping among students who work part-time. The type of research used in this research is a quantitative approach with correlation analysis. The sample used was 110 students who work part time in Kupang City. The data collection method used the optimism scale and problem-focused coping scale and was analyzed using the Pearson product- moment correlation. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between optimism and problem-focused coping. This relationship is indicated by the calculated r value of 0.852 > r table of 0.186 and the significance value is 0.000.

Abstract

This study explores the forms of revictimization experiences of sexual violence survivors who decided to report their cases through legal process and examines the impact on their mental health. The study utilized a multi-method design involving interviews and DASS-42. Qualitative data were analyzed thematic analysis, while quantitative data were presented using descriptive statistics. The study involved 10 female participants aged 13 to 17 years. Findings reveal several forms of revictimization, including power dynamics between perpetrator and victim, negative family reactions, and verbal abuse from the environment. Revictimization led to self-blame, self-isolation and intrusive sexual thought, and supported by quantitative data indicating high levels of anxiety (90%), depression (70%), and stress (40%) among participants. Consequently, there is a critical need for awareness among families and neighborhoods. Psychological support should be provided from the time of disclosure to the legal process in order to facilitate recovery and minimize further harm.

Abstract

Smartphones have many advantages, but can also cause detrimental effects, namely addiction. Smartphone addiction is a behavior of dependence on smartphones which can cause various problems in students' lives. Personality traits are closely related to addictive behavior. The personality theory most used to uncover addiction is the Big Five Personality. This research aims to determine the relationship between the Big Five personality dimensions and smartphone addiction in students. This research is a quantitative correlation research. The sample in this study amounted to 325 respondents obtained using purposive sampling. Data was taken using the SAS (Smartphone Addiction Scale) and BFI (Big Five Inventory) scales. The analysis technique uses the Spearman rank test. The results show that the dimensions of conscientiousness (0.001<0.05), extraversion (0.006<0.05), and neuroticism (0.001<0.05) have a significant relationship with smartphone addiction while Openness to experience (0.175>0.05) and agreeableness (0.367>0.05) doesn't have a significant relationship with smartphone addiction in students.

Abstract

The number of suicides increases every year. In 2023, 11 students will be recorded and published in mass media and social media. This service aims to enable students to understand the symptoms of people with suicidal tendencies (OKBD) and carry out prevention through early psychological support. The methods used in this service are lecturing, group discussions, games and role play. The training participants are student representatives from universities in Kupang City. The number of participants was 22 participants. The results of the service show that there is an increase in the average score before and after the service. Before the service the average value of participants' knowledge was 37.9, while the average value of participants' knowledge after attention was 54.4. This service has not optimally changed the participants' skills, because time is limited.

Abstract

Data on sexual violence againts children in NTT Province continues to increase yearly. Most cases of sexual violence against children occur at home and are commited by those closest to the child, often leaving the child feeling powerless to report the abuse. As a result, the sexual violence can persist for a long time. The challenges in uncovering the sexual violence experienced by children make it essential for adults around them to proactively engage in preventing such cases and to equip themselves with the skills to assist children who experience sexual violence. This community service aims to (1) increase knowledge regarding sexual violence for teachers at child development centers on Rote Island and (2) Provide skills in assisting children who are victims of sexual violence to teachers at child development centers on Rote Island. This community service activity was attended by 15 child development center teachers, 3 men and 12 women. The analysis showed an average increase in pre-test and post-test scores of 17.6 points. The mentoring skills of the participants also improved. This service activity produced several outcomes, such as leaflets on the issue of sexual violence, journal articles, online media publications, and videos of community service activities.

Abstract

Fenomena kekerasan dalam rumah tangga (KDRT), khususnya agresi verbal, menjadi persoalan serius di masyarakat, termasuk di Kelurahan Fatululi, Kota Kupang. Data menunjukkan bahwa wilayah ini mencatat tingginya angka perceraian dan kekerasan dalam rumah tangga, yang sebagian besar disebabkan oleh pertengkaran verbal. Penelitian ini berfokus pada hubungan antara regulasi emosi dan perilaku agresi verbal pada pasangan suami istri. Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk mengetahui apakah regulasi emosi berperan dalam menurunkan intensitas agresi verbal dalam rumah tangga. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif non-eksperimental dengan desain korelasional. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada 164 responden menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara regulasi emosi dan perilaku agresi verbal (r = -0,666, p < 0,001), dengan kontribusi sebesar 44,4%. Artinya, semakin tinggi kemampuan regulasi emosi, semakin rendah kecenderungan untuk melakukan agresi verbal. Penelitian ini berdampak pada peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat akan pentingnya regulasi emosi dalam menjaga keharmonisan rumah tangga serta sebagai bahan pertimbangan intervensi psikososial di tingkat komunitas untuk mencegah kekerasan dalam rumah tangga
