Abstract

Abstract

This study program is under the Department of Art, Drama, Dance, and Music, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This program uses the Independent Learning Curriculum. A course on the principal string instrument (beginner) is featured in the third semester. However,  there are still many issues with its execution. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students must study at home. Thus, this scenario affects students' capacities. As a result, this research will show the development and effectiveness of a subject module of the principal string instrument (beginner) at the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Surabaya.  This study uses the ADDIE learning design model (Analysis-Design-Develop-Implement-Evaluate). Learning products research produces a learning module designed to help students improve their violin playing skills, especially in the principal string instrument (beginner). Developing the principal string instrument (beginner) learning module begins with a needs analysis based on observation, field studies, and literature. Each stage of product development involves analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The design results were assessed by material, language, and graphic experts and revised. After revisions, the product was tested on students of the music arts study program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya.  The results are packaged as learning modules for music arts lecturers and students. The development research results show that using products in learning modules can improve violin playing skills. The t-test value of 0.000 indicates that the experimental and control groups differ significantly. Keywords: Development, Module, Learning, Violin.

Abstract

This research aims to find out significant differences in violin playing skills between students who were taught using an intermediate level violin textbook made by a team of lecturers and students who were not taught using an intermediate level violin textbook made by a team of lecturers in the Music Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The research method used is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental type. Research result is known that the violin playing skills between the experimental group and the control group differ significantly. This conclusion is proven by the mean score of the experimental group which is higher than the control group in the posttest activity. The mean posttest score in the experimental group was 88.45. Meanwhile, the mean posttest score in the control group was 82.65. Another thing is also shown by the results of the independent sample t-test in the experimental group and the control group during the posttest activity with a calculated t value of 6.104 and a t table value of 2.086. The calculated t value > t table value, so it can be said that the experimental group and the control group differ significantly. Therefore, there is an influence of the application of an intermediate level violin textbook made by a team of lecturers on violin playing skills in the Music Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The increase in violin playing skills was more demonstrated in the experimental group than the control group. This argument is proven by the mean pretest score in the experimental group of 81.15, while the mean pretest score in the control group is 80.7. The mean posttest score for the experimental group was 88.45, while the mean posttest score for the control group was 82.65. The experimental group experienced an increase of 7.3. This is shown from the mean score of 81.15 at the pretest which increased to 88.45 at the posttest. Meanwhile, the control group also experienced an increase in the mean score of 1.95.

Abstract

The research conducted aims to determine the effectiveness of the main level violin textbook that has been made in terms of students' violin playing skills during pretest and posttest at the Music Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The use of quantitative methods with the type of quasi experiment and one-group pretest-posttest design in this study. The use of inferential analysis in the form of a normality test with the Shapiro-wilk method with a sig value 0.05 of 0.889 and 0.906 so that the data is normally distributed (symmetrical). Hypothesis testing using the paired sample t test found that the average test of violin playing skills during the pretest was 76.09 and the posttest was 78.82, an increase of 2.73. Other results are also shown by t count (t0) which is -2.725 and t table which is 2.228, because t count is negative then two tailed hypothesis testing is done with left side testing with the results that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. The mean difference figure of -2.727 shows the average difference in violin playing skills tests on pretest and posttest activities. The significance results of the pretest and posttest activities show that the correlation between the two conditions is unidirectional, strong, and significant. These results are shown in the significance value which is smaller than 0.05 (0.000 0.05). Therefore, the main level violin textbook made is said to be effective in terms of the three results obtained. Keywords: textbook, violin, skills

Abstract

Orchestration is one of the theoretical courses conducted in 4th semester at the Music Study Programme, Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. However, in its implementation there are still obstacles and problems. The ability of one student to another in orchestrating songs is very different. The inequality is shown when students work on assignments to orchestrate songs given by lecturers during the midterm and final exams. The work on the task obtained significantly different results. The obstacles and problems that exist in the orchestration lecture process cause a great influence on the development of student abilities. This research tries to present a treatment through learning tools in the form of sibelius software. This research is intended to test the effectiveness of learning tools in the form of Sibelius software in orchestration courses. The research method used is a quantitative method with the type of quasi experiment. The experimental design used in this study was pretest-posttest control group design. The results of the paired sample t test in the experimental group and control group at posttest with a significance value in the Sig column of 0.011 and 0.005. The significance value shows <0.05, so it can be said that there is a difference in the pretest results of the skills and knowledge of orchestrating student songs between the experimental group and the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the skills and knowledge of orchestrating songs between students who are taught using a stave book and students who are taught using sibelius software in the Music Study Programme. Thus, the use of sibelius software in orchestration lectures is said to be effective. However, because this study used a quasi-experimental type, there are internal and external factors that affect the improvement of students' skills and knowledge in orchestrating songs, such as individual student motivation and musical experience.
