Abstract

The article aims is to shed light on the process of regenerating the laity into church-serving lay leaders. This article constitutes a literature review employing a qualitative approach to explore 2 Timothy 2:2, focusing on trustworthy, capable, and committed lay leadership as successors of truth. This analysis involves reading and interpreting the text 2 Timothy 2:2 while referencing relevant literature on Christian leadership and applying Paul's model of lay leadership to Timothy, aiming to contribute to developing a pattern of lay leadership for contemporary churches. This article examines the concept of lay leadership, emphasizing the leader's ability to inspire and motivate lay individuals to develop their potential and become future leaders. It underscores the importance of setting a positive example, building trust, and empowering followers to achieve change. This article employs this theory to explain how Paul mentored Timothy into a competent congregational leader for the Lord. According to the findings, Paul used a laity leadership approach to prepare Timothy for leadership in the early Christian church. He demonstrated leadership by emulating the life and attitude of the Lord Jesus. He instructed him of faith, duty, and ministry, entrusted him with ministry and leadership responsibilities, and encouraged him to be independent and mature in his leadership. Paul developed Timothy's leadership potential and prepared him to lead the Lord's congregation through this process. The conclusion emphasises the significance of transformative leadership in developing lay leaders who can effectively serve the church.

Abstract

This research intends to initiate and formulate the economic theology of the Toraja Church based on a biblical view, and it is realized that it requires challenging and complex efforts. The field of Economics is vast and significant, and therefore, in the context of the Toraja Church, theology is inclined to aid economists in establishing an ethical, faith-based groundwork for the development of economics. The extensive scope of this inquiry has motivated the Toraja Church to initiate this investigation as a foundation for fostering sustainable research pertinent to the economic realm of Torajan population. This research carries out using a qualitative method. Primary data were collected by means of observations and interviews during various mini-tours and live-ins of field research. Both personal interviews and those in the form of tentative-by-the-run FGD were conducted. To support them, referential data were collected by literature review and documentation from various stakeholders. This study recognizes 1) God's mandate to organize the economy, 2) preferential options for the poor, and 3) economic empowerment as a responsible duty. However, in its fundamentals the Toraja Church should build its economic theology based on Biblical principles, taking consideration of its experience & history and the community’s socio-cultural context.

Abstract

This research examines the model of the theology of bureaucracy of Jesus and the apostles in the New Testament as an alternative paradigm for ethical leadership in Indonesia. This paradigm emphasizes the principles of service, humility, and sacrifice, which differ from traditional bureaucracy that places more emphasis on hierarchy, authority, and power. Using qualitative methodology with biblical text analysis and a hermeneutic approach, this research also explores the contextualization of Roman bureaucracy and contemporary Indonesian bureaucracy. The research findings indicate that the application of Jesus' leadership principles can enhance integrity and service orientation in public policy. This paper contributes to the development of bureaucratic theology literature and provides practical guidance for Christian leaders, academics, and theology students in understanding the relationship between religious ethics and more inclusive and responsible public administration. These findings open up opportunities for further research in formulating public leadership models relevant to the bureaucratic challenges in Indonesia.

Abstract

A key example of how cultural spaces transmit indigenous knowledge is the concept of traditional house of the Toraja people, the tongkonan. To comprehend the educational and cultural role of the tongkonan, this research explores its structural and symbolic aspects, rituals, and communal practices. Using a qualitative and ethnographic approach, the data were collected from participant observation, interviews and interdisciplinary analysis. Results illuminate that architectural design and symbolic carving of the tongkonan serves as pedagogical tools, and rituals and intergenerational exchanges collectively contribute to cultural continuity and communal identity. Yet modernization and globalization pose significant threats to the longevity of these practices, thus requiring creative adaptations, including digital documentation, community and social driven initiatives, and sustainable tourism models. These efforts not only protect Torajan cultural resources but also provide lessons for other indigenous people confronting similar predicaments. This research emphasizes the significance of the combination of traditional knowledge and contemporary practice to offer a crucial to the survival of cultures in a modern world.

Abstract

The digital era has brought profound transformations in religious life, creating both opportunities and challenges for the younger generation of Christians in maintaining their faith. The Toraja Church Youth Fellowship (PPGT) of the Buntu Masakke Congregation is one such community struggling to maintain the steadfastness of its youth's faith amidst the tide of globalization, the temptations of materialism, worldly positions, and the increasingly prevalent dynamics of interfaith romance. This reality drives the need for a faith training strategy that is relevant, contextual, and utilizes the potential of digital technology wisely. This study aims to implement an effective faith training strategy for PPGT through the use of digital media to produce church youth who not only unleash strength in faith, but also grow spiritually and are able to serve in creative and impactful ways in the modern era. This study used a four-month practicum method involving 22 active participants. Three training modules were implemented in stages: (1) Rooted in God's Word in the Digital Age, which encourages the use of Bible applications and digital devotionals; (2) Growing in Christ's Character Amidst Worldly Temptations, which emphasizes the values of integrity, faithfulness, and holiness; and (3) Serving with Creativity and Relevance in the Digital Age, which invites young people to produce digital content with spiritual value. The results of the study showed significant success, with 95% achieving “rootedness,” 80% achieving “growth,” and 86% achieving “serving.” In fact, 63.6% of participants experienced spiritual transformation and are now active as digital ministry drivers. These findings confirm that digital media, when utilized strategically and in harmony with Christian values, can be an effective tool in fostering the faith of the younger generation. Therefore, the church needs to develop a sustainable and contextual digital training model to strengthen the role of young people in current and future ministry.

Abstract

This community engagement program proposes the development of Toraja Mamasa and Seko language courses as a sustainable pedagogical strategy to revitalize local languages within the IAKN Toraja curriculum. Through field-based informal simulations, participatory activities, and literature review, the program evaluates the impact of culturally grounded language instruction on student engagement and community empowerment. The results show significant improvements in students’ linguistic skills and cultural sensitivity, while also highlighting strong community expectations for future church leaders to be proficient in Mamasa or Seko. The initiative promotes active student involvement, the integration of traditional knowledge, and the use of local-language audio Bible applications. This program underscores the importance of identity-based language education and offers practical recommendations for addressing resource limitations in local language preservation.
