Abstract

This study aims to design and develop UnityPet, an integrated application for pet owners and professionals in the pet industry, using the Design Thinking methodology. The application is designed to address specific user needs by providing various services, including online veterinary consultations, grooming services, pet sitting, an online store for pet supplies, and interactive features for communication between users and professionals. The research process includes five key stages of Design Thinking: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. The Empathize stage identifies primary challenges faced by users, such as the difficulty in finding a comprehensive platform for pet-related services and communication barriers with professionals. The Define stage formulates the core user problems as a foundation for ideation, where various application features are developed according to these needs. In the Prototype stage, wireframes and interactive prototypes are created to visualize and test the application’s functionality. Finally, usability testing is conducted in the Test phase to assess the application’s effectiveness, efficiency, accuracy, and user-friendliness. The testing results indicate an effectiveness rate of 84%, with efficiency, accuracy, and user-friendliness scores reaching 92%, surpassing the acceptance threshold of 75%. These findings demonstrate that UnityPet is not only functional but also offers an intuitive and satisfying user experience. UnityPet successfully meets usability standards and is ready for implementation, promising a positive contribution to the pet care industry

Abstract

Abstract

Childhood stunting is a health problem associated with chronic malnutrition, particularly inadequate protein and selenium intake. Fermented egg flour was chosen because the fermentation process can increase the bioavailability of protein and selenium. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the sensory quality of instant complementary food formulated with fermented egg flour as a source of protein and selenium. The nutritional composition of this formulation has been reported in a previous study; therefore, this research specifically focuses on its sensory evaluation. The sensory test was conducted using a 9-scale hedonic method on the parameters of taste, aroma, texture, and color involving 66 semi-trained panelists (nutrition students). The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four formulations: F0 (control) and F1, F2, and F3 as treatments with 10, 15 and 20% fermented eggs, respectively. Data analysis used one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p<0.05). The test results showed that the substitution of fermented egg flour had a significant effect on panelists' preferences in the aspects of color, taste, and aroma but not significant in texture; the protein content from 20.56% to 20.59%, 21.68%, and 22.54%, along with an increase in energy content from 417 kcal to 419 kcal, 427 kcal, 431 kcal in instant complementary food. However, higher fermented egg flour proportions reduced acceptance due to a fishy aroma.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, influenced by multifactorial determinants including environmental sanitation. Poor household sanitation increases the risk of repeated infections and nutrient malabsorption, contributing significantly to impaired growth among children under five.  This study aims to analyze the association between household environmental sanitation factors and the incidence of stunting in children under five in the Tetewatu Health Centre area, North Konawe District. A case-control study was conducted from January to March 2024, involving 54 respondents (27 stunted cases and 27 matched controls). Data were collected through structured interviews, direct observations, and anthropometric measurements. Variables assessed included ownership of clean water sources, healthy latrines, handwashing with soap (HWWS) practices, and household food management. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact tests, with significance set at p<0.05. The results showed significant associations between all environmental sanitation variables and stunting. Households with poor access to clean water (OR=10.95; p=0.024), lack of healthy latrines (OR=10.95; p=0.024), poor HWWS behavior (OR=7.35; p=0.019), and inadequate food management (OR=29.69; p<0.001) had a significantly higher risk of stunting. Food management emerged as the strongest predictor. Conclusion: Environmental sanitation factors, particularly food hygiene, access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and handwashing practices, play a critical role in preventing stunting. Interventions targeting household sanitation and hygiene behaviors are essential to achieve sustainable reductions in child stunting rates. Strengthening the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) component in stunting prevention programs is urgently recommended.
