Abstract

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is a food seasoning that is widely used. Consumption of MSG in excessive doses can cause an excess of free radicals in the body that trigger oxidative stress and finally affect the reproductive system hormones. These free radicals can be suppressed by administration of antioxidants. Rhizomes of Curcuma xanthorrhiza extracts containantioxidants and they are widely grown. Theyare used as traditional medicine in Indonesia. This experiment was conducted to investigatewhether rhizomes of Curcuma xanthorrhiza extracts areable to inhibit decreasing endometrial thickness in female mice after receiving orally MSG-treatment.This research adoptedtrue experimental posttest only control group design. It includes 25 mice that were divided into 5 groups: control K1 (CMC) and K2 (MSG), treatment group (MSG and rhizomes of Curcuma xanthorrhiza extracts with dose of 0,4 mg/gBW, 0,8 mg/gBW, 1,2 mg/gBW).In addition, the mice’s endometrium were removed to be subsequently stained using Hematoxillin-Eosin. Thickening of uterus was observed and measured with 40x magnitude using Microphoto Microscope Olympus. Data was analized using One Way ANOVA. The research finally comes with a result showing that there were not any significant differences discovered from the endometrium thickening from the five tested groups (p0,05). Therefore, it is implied that rhizomes of Curcuma xanthorrhiza extracts has no effect on endometrial thickness of uterus by oral MSG-treatment. Keywords: MSG, curcuma, endometrium

Abstract

Introduction: Stress is the body's reaction to pressure from stressors; one of the stressors that can trigger stress is a noise stressor. Stress can disrupt the body's homeostasis system, one of the cycles of spermatogenesis. Murottal Al-Qur'an therapy listening can produce a response of relaxation and peace of mind to increase healing. Methods: The study was conducted on 25 healthy male mice aged 8-12 weeks grouped randomly into five groups. The positive control group is the normal group. The negative control group is given a 12-hour stressor. The treatment groups are given 12 hours and 1, 2, and 4 hours therapy. The treatment for each group was carried out for 21 days. Spermatogenesis of mice was observed through the number of primary spermatocytes cells and spermatid cells. It takes place during the preparation of testicular histology with Hematoxylin Eosin staining. Primary spermatocyte and spermatid counts were examined under a 40x magnification microscope. Results: Murottal Al-Qur'an therapy can affect the amount of primary spermatocyte cells (p-value = 0.000) and spermatids (p-value = 0,000) that are very significant. Conclusion: Murottal Al-Qur'an therapy can be used to increase the spermatogenesis of mice with stress. Keywords: Stress, Noise, Spermatogenesis, Murottal Al-Qur'an.

Abstract

Incision wounds have a fairly high prevalence in Indonesia. Chemical treatment of incision wounds has adverse side effects, therefore alternative treatment with natural ingredients is needed, namely using red fruit oil as the basic ingredient. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of red fruit oil (Pandanus conoideus Lamk.) gel emulsion on the healing process of incision wounds in males both macroscopically and microscopically. This is an experimental laboratory study. The study design used was true experimental with a post-test-only control group design approach. The population consisted of 25 male mice which were divided into 5 groups, namely: (1) K- was a control group where the incision wound on the back was given a gel emulsion base; (2) K+ was the control group where the incision wound on the back was given Iodine Povidone ; (3) P1 is the treatment group where the incision wound on the back is given a 5% red fruit oil gel emulsion (F1); (4) P2 is the treatment group where the incision wound on the back is given a red fruit oil gel emulsion 10% (F2); (5) P3 was the treatment group where the incision on the back was given a 15% red fruit oil gel emulsion (F3). The treatment was given for 14 days. The data were then analyzed using the ANOVA test. The result showed that the administration of red fruit oil emulgel had a significant effect on the size of the incision wound on the 7th day (p=0.035) and the 14th day (p=0.005). Giving red fruit oil emulgel also had a significant effect on the thickness of the epithelium (p=0.000) and the number of fibroblasts (p=0.000). It can be concluded that the administration of red fruit oil emulgel affects the healing process of the incision wound both macroscopically and microscopically.

Abstract

Introduction:  Stress is a body's response experienced by a person due to burdened feelings or oppressed in a particular event. Stress may interfere body's homeostasis. One of them is the spermatogenesis process. Healthy stress management is necessary, for example, by doing murottal Al-Qur'an. Reading Al-Qur'an with tartil delivers a beautiful tone and has a relaxing effect and stress release. This research aims to determine the effect of murottal Al-Qur'an on the amount of Leydig cells on male mice (Mus musculus) who are experiencing stress. The compressor used is noise from the road with an intensity of 85dB, given for 12 hours (18.00-06.00) for 21 days. The therapy used was murottal Al-Quran surah Ar-Rahman verses 1-78, which read by Shaykh Abdurrahman Sudais. In this research there were five categories, they are K+ (not given the stressor and murottal therapy), K- (given noise stressors and not given murottal therapy), P1 (given noise stressors for 12-hours and murottal therapy for 1-hour), P2 (given noise stressor for 12-hours and murottal therapy for 2-hours), P3 (given a stress stressor for 12-hours and murottal therapy for 4-hours). Moreover, observations were done on testicular histology preparations with Hematoxylin Eosin staining in olyvia (c) applications. The number of Leydig cells was examined with a 40x magnification microscope. Cell calculations are done manually with the image raster application. The results revealed that murottal Al-Quran is able to significantly affect the number of Leydig cells (p value = 0,000). Lastly, it can be concluded that there is an influence of murottal Al-Quran on the number of Leydig cells in male mice under stress. Keyword : Stress, Noice, Murottal Al-Aquran, Surah Ar-Rahman, Leydig Cell

Abstract

Background: Mental health has become a trending topic during the pandemic. Many athletes have experienced decreased performance during the pandemic, but not a few athletes are able to control their mental health. Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between knowledge, preventive behaviour, and self-efficacy on mental health in professional football athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses quantitative methods. Methods: This type of research is observational with a cross-sectional study. Eighty professional football athletes were involved in this research. The sampling technique was carried out using a proportional stratified simple random sampling technique.  This research was conducted by distributing questionnaires consisting of 4 parts, namely knowledge level questionnaire sheets, preventive behaviour questionnaire sheets, self-efficacy questionnaire sheets, and mental health questionnaire sheets. The data obtained in this study were analyzed using the SPSS application with a descriptive test method to determine the min, max, average, and percentage. Furthermore, data analysis was carried out using the Spearman test method. Results: Based on the results of the study, The low p-value of 0.046 and the correlation coefficient of -0.224 suggest a meaningful negative correlation between self-efficacy and mental health. This indicates that as self-efficacy increases, mental health tends to decrease among the respondents. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and the mental health of the respondents. We provide recommendations for Psychologists to develop online interventions that aim to increase individual ability to cope with stressors during a pandemic and reduce excessive perceptions that have a negative impact on mental health.
