Abstract

Diarrhea is a bowel movement in which the stool is liquid or semi-liquid, in which its water content is more than 200 ml/24 hours. Health center 1 in Ajibarang with 2.440 incidence cases of diarrhea is a health center with the highest cases of diarrhea in Banyumas. Severalfactors which can affect the incidence of diarrhea include the latrines andwater utilization. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the utilization of latrines and water with the incidence of diarrhea in theVillage of Kracak Ajibarang in 2013. The number of samples were 72respondents, 36 patients suffered from diarrhea and 36 didn’t. The design ofthis study was explanatory research with case-control approach. The analysis of the data used univariate, bivariate analyzes (Chi Square),and multivariate analysis. The results show that Diarrhea sofferers in the village of Kracak whoused clean latrines were 20 respondents (55.56%), and those who used cleanwater and didn’t suffer from diarrhea were 25 respondents (69.44%). Fromthe relationship test, the p value of latrines utilization variable is 0.056 >0.05, and p value of water utilization is 0.250 > 0.05. It indicates that there is no significant relationship between the utilization of latrines and theutilization of water with the incidence rate of diarrhea in the Village ofKracak, Ajibarang 2012, the utilization of latrines has its significant valuesig. = 0.813 > 0.05, and the utilization of water has its significant value sig.= 0.617 > 0.05. In conclusion there is no association between the utilizationof latrines and the utilization of water with the incidence rate of diarrhea in the Village of Kracak, Ajibarang.Key Words : Diarrhea, water, latrines

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding in the Banyumas a decline of 53.6% in 2011 to 49.9% in 2012.That's because the husband's lack of support exclusive breastfeeding. If fathers support and knowthe benefits of exclusive breastfeeding rate reached 98.1%. Otherwise without the support of herhusband, the success rate of exclusive breastfeeding was 26.9%. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the relationship with the husband'ssupport exclusive breastfeeding in rural areas Kedunguter Banyumas district in 2013. This study was an observational study with a correlational design with cross sectionalapproach. Sampling tec hnique in this study uses total sampling, the study sample were marriedcouples who have a baby with a good 0-6 months of exclusive breast-fed and non- breast fedexclusively by 30 couples. Questionnaires measuring instruments used and the type of data is theprimary data. Data analysis using chi-square. Abstract

Medical terminology poses a significant learning obstacle for numerous nursing students who rely heavily on textbook definitions. However, these definitions often lack the necessary visual context to facilitate lasting comprehension. In order to enhance literacy skills crucial for safe nursing practice, it is important to explore innovative approaches. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Picmonic application, which utilizes audiovisual narratives, in improving retention and engagement compared to traditional studying methods. A parallel group randomized controlled trial compared two learning methods among first-year nursing undergraduates at an urban university. Participants were assigned to either a textbook self-directed learning group (n=62) or an equivalent Picmonic content group (n=60), which used mnemonic visual flashcards and quizzes. Assessments were conducted at 5-, 10-, and 15-week intervals, with additional delayed testing at 1- and 3-months to examine knowledge acquisition and persistence, and to assess the effectiveness of the learning system. Students who used Picmonic had higher average test scores compared to the control group at various measurement points (p < .001). The differences in group means increased over longer intervals, suggesting that the use of multimedia in Picmonic helped with long-term recall. Picmonic users also expressed high satisfaction, voluntarily used the system, and provided positive feedback in focus groups, indicating a preference for the mnemonic-enhanced methodology (p < .001). Multimedia mnemonic educational systems, such as Picmonic, enhance medical terminology retention and engagement of nursing students compared to traditional strategies. This finding has significant implications for instructional design and clinical preparation.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Demam adalah kenaikan suhu tubuh di atas normal. Bila diukur pada rektal >38°C (100,4°F), diukur pada oral >37,8°C, dan bila diukur melalui aksila >37,2°C (99°F). Menurunkan atau mengendalikan dan mengontrol demam pada anak dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara, diantaranya dengan farmakologik dan secara fisik (non farmakologik) yaitu dengan penggunaan energi panas melalui metoda konduksi dan evaporasi. Metode konduksi dan evaporasi dapat dilakukan dengan kompres hangat dan juga dapat dilakukan dengan obat tradisional seperti bawang merah. Kompres hangat sudah banyak diterapkan, namun masih banyak yang tidak melakukan kompres bawang merah. Kompres bawang merah mudah dijangkau masyarakat, baik harga maupun ketersediaannya, dan memungkinkan pasien atau keluarga tidak terlalu tergantung pada obat antipiretik. Tujuan penelitian: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan perbedaan suhu tubuh anak demam sebelum dan setelah kompres bawang merah. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian pra-eksperimental dengan pendekatan One-group pra-post test design. Teknik sampling dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Purposive Sampling. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah Wicoxon. Hasil Penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan atau selisih rerata suhu sebelum dan setelah kompres bawang merah yaitu 0.734 oC. Diketahui nilai significancy 0,000 (ρ < 0,005) sehingga disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan suhu tubuh yang bermakna antara sebelum dan setelah kompres bawang merah. Kesimpulan: Simpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan suhu tubuh yang bermakna antara sebelum dan setelah kompres bawang merah

Abstract

English communication competence is essential for nursing professionals in global healthcare settings. However, language anxiety can hinder the acquisition of these skills, particularly among nursing students learning English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Limited research exists on language anxiety in ESP learning for nursing, especially in Asian contexts like Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the relationship between language anxiety and specific nursing communication performance among pre-elementary level nursing students in Indonesia, focusing on a vital-signs checking task.  An explanatory sequential mixed methods design was employed. Sixteen pre-elementary level nursing students from Harapan Bangsa University, Indonesia, completed the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire and participated in a vital-signs checking role-play task. Performance was evaluated using an adapted assessment rubric. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficients. Participants demonstrated moderate levels of language anxiety (M = 3.00, SD = 1.00), with higher anxiety related to communication apprehension and fear of negative evaluation. A significant negative correlation was found between language anxiety and overall communication performance (r = -0.58, p < 0.05). Stronger negative correlations were observed between anxiety and language accuracy (r = -0.62), fluency (r = -0.54), and pronunciation (r = -0.57), while no significant correlations were found with content accuracy or nonverbal communication. This study provides empirical evidence for the detrimental impact of language anxiety on nursing students' communication performance in clinically relevant tasks. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to address language anxiety in ESP learning for nursing, considering individual learner profiles and the specific challenges of communication in healthcare contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the sociopragmatic competence of EFL learners in academic presentations within science and technology fields, specifically examining the gap between linguistic and interactive skills and the relationship between self-perception and actual performance. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 22 Indonesian EFL undergraduate students through a presentation performance assessment rubric evaluating five dimensions of sociopragmatic competence, complemented by a self-report questionnaire exploring participants' perceptions and experiences. The analysis revealed distinctive patterns of sociopragmatic competence, with participants demonstrating strengths in linguistic aspects but facing significant challenges in interactive components. A notable finding was the identification of a 'sociopragmatic competence paradox,' where strong linguistic skills did not necessarily translate to effective pragmatic competence in presentation contexts. The study also uncovered a significant gap between participants' high self-perception and lower actual performance in interactive aspects, alongside the substantial influence of anxiety and time management difficulties on sociopragmatic performance. These findings emphasize the need for a more holistic pedagogical approach in EFL teaching that integrates interactive skills development, anxiety management strategies, and metapragmatic awareness alongside traditional linguistic instruction. Abstract

The integration of drama in English language teacher education offers transformative potential that has not been fully explored. In an increasingly complex era of globalization, English language teacher education faces the challenge of preparing educators who are not only linguistically proficient but also capable of adapting to diverse cultural and pedagogical contexts. This study aims to analyze the impact of a dramaturgical approach on the development of linguistic competence, professional identity, and pedagogical creativity of prospective English language teachers. Using a longitudinal case study design with a mixed-methods approach, this research involved two pre-service teachers over one academic semester. Data were collected through assessment rubrics for drama scripts and videos, in-depth interviews, and participant observation, with analysis employing both descriptive statistics and thematic analysis techniques.  Results revealed significant improvements in linguistic and performative skills, with scores increasing from script writing to video production (15 to 18 and 13 to 20). Qualitative analysis identified five key phenomena: Multimodal Linguistic Neuroplasticity, Professional Identity Reconfiguration through Performativity, Deconstruction of Language Skills Hierarchy, Theatre as a Sociolinguistic Reality Simulator, and Pedagogical Liminality. These findings collectively establish the foundation for a "Transdisciplinary Performative Pedagogy" that challenges conventional compartmentalized approaches to language teacher education. The integration of quantitative and qualitative results indicates that dramaturgical experiences facilitate not only linguistic development but also profound transformations in professional identity and pedagogical understanding. This research generates the concept of "Transdisciplinary Performative Pedagogy," offering a new paradigm in English language teacher education. These findings have implications for curriculum development that comprehensively integrates drama, encouraging pedagogical innovation and adaptability in language teaching for increasingly complex global contexts.

Abstract

The community service presents the results of training in the development of the innovative learning media "SCoEP" (Smart Card of English Pronunciation) based on the mnemonic method to improve the English pronunciation skills of Vocational High School (SMK) students. Through a series of stages, ranging from needs analysis, media design, development training, to implementation and evaluation, the "SCoEP" learning media was successfully developed and implemented at SMKN 1 Purwokerto. The results of the training show that the training in developing the "SCoEP" media is effective in improving the English pronunciation skills of SMK students. This is indicated by an increase in the average score from the pre-test to the post-test by 27.38%. The "SCoEP" learning media, which integrates visual elements, phonetic transcripts, and technology through QR codes, has been proven to help students remember vocabulary pronunciation more easily. This training also fostered enthusiasm and student participation in the learning process. These findings imply that the "SCoEP" learning media can be an effective and innovative solution to improve English pronunciation skills in Vocational High Schools. This media can be a development model that can be applied more widely to improve the quality of English language learning in SMK schools.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Penyandang disabilitas, khususnya tunarungu, masih menghadapi hambatan dalam mengakses dunia kerja. Sekitar 65% perusahaan di Indonesia enggan mempekerjakan mereka karena kurangnya pemahaman terhadap potensi yang dimiliki. Studi ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan pelajar tunarungu melalui pelatihan copywriting Bahasa Inggris berbasis kecerdasan buatan guna membuka peluang karier di industri digital global. Metode: Program dilaksanakan di SLB B YAKUT Purwokerto melibatkan 23 siswa SMALB dengan metode blended learning (60% tatap muka, 40% daring) selama 12 minggu. Materi meliputi copywriting dan penggunaan AI tools seperti ChatGPT dan Grammarly. Data dikumpulkan melalui pretest, postest, observasi, portofolio, dan kuesioner kepuasan. Hasil: Terdapat peningkatan rata-rata 40% dalam kemampuan copywriting. Sebanyak 75% proyek siswa memenuhi standar industri. Kepuasan peserta mencapai 85%, dan 80% merasa lebih percaya diri dalam menggunakan teknologi AI. Kesimpulan: Program ini efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan dan kepercayaan diri siswa tunarungu melalui pembelajaran berbasis teknologi.

Abstract

Proyek pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada peningkatan keterampilan berbicara di depan umum dalam bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMA dan MA di Kabupaten Cilacap, mengatasi masalah umum terkait rendahnya kemampuan di bidang ini. Tujuan dari program ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa dan memperdalam penguasaan teknik penyampaian pidato. Program ini menggabungkan sesi pelatihan, simulasi, dan latihan individu maupun kelompok sebagai pendekatan utamanya. Melalui metode interaktif dan praktis ini, siswa diperkenalkan pada berbagai aspek berbicara di depan umum yang efektif, termasuk modifikasi suara, bahasa tubuh, dan keterlibatan audiens. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kepercayaan diri dan keterampilan teknis, membuktikan efektivitas inisiatif pengabdian masyarakat ini dalam membekali siswa dengan alat komunikasi penting untuk masa depan mereka.
