Abstract

Strategic planning for higher education is vital because it becomes a reference in determining the direction of policy and organizational performance. To win the competition in gaining the market, strategic planning activities become the spearhead in determining the strategy to achieve the appropriate institutional goals. However, the implementation of strategic planning at Islamic Religious Higher Education (PTKI) is often constrained because of the lack of understanding of the importance of these theories, so the implementation of strategic planning is often only intended for administrative requirements. Amid this condition, there is a phenomenon where some PTKIs are developing rapidly and transforming to be more market-oriented and to win the competition. These PTKIs are UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, IAIN Tulungagung, Muhammadiyah University of Malang, and Malang Islamic University. They have succeeded in creating effective strategies in organizational development until now they can become modern institutions and develop into multi-level organizations. The purpose of this study is to explore the five PTKI strategy models in Indonesia at the corporate and business unit levels based on Fred R. David's corporate-level strategy models, and Porter's generic strategy model theory Data were collected by qualitative methods through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results showed that at the corporate level, Fred R. David's strategy models applied by PTKI were vertical integration strategy, intensive strategy, and diversification strategy. In the defensive strategy, what is more, applied is the retrenchment strategy choice. However, at the business unit level, Porter's well-implemented strategy models are the cost leadership strategy, differentiation strategy, and focus strategy. These results have implications for the selection of business strategy models to be used in either profit-oriented or non-profit strategic planning activities in PTKI.

Abstract

The development of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago is closely tied to the networks of scholars, including those in the Mataraman region, where Mbah Yahuda played a pivotal role in transmitting Islamic knowledge in the southern area of Java. This study contends that Mbah Yahuda significantly contributed to the spread of Islam through pesantren, which served as centers of classical Islamic scholarship. His long-standing influence is seen in the establishment of major pesantren such as Lirboyo, Ploso, and Jampes in Kediri, as well as others in Trenggalek, Ponorogo, and Pacitan. These institutions share genealogical and intellectual connections that can be traced back to him. Preliminary genealogical data reveals three theories regarding Mbah Yahuda’s origins: a Middle Eastern lineage linked to Sayyidina Hamzah, evidenced by the historical gifting of the KamKam Sword; a Cirebon connection suggested by the presence of a nagasari tree near his tomb; and a Mataram royal lineage supported by genealogical records. His descendants, particularly the Egyptian clan, are associated with pesantren traditions focused on Qur’anic studies and Sufism, while others are known as scholars and government officials. Overall, the scholarly networks rooted in Mbah Yahuda underline the strategic contribution of Indonesian Islamic traditions to sustainable development goals, especially in quality education, peacebuilding, and cultural preservation.

Abstract

This type of research is field research in the form of a case study. Data was obtained through observation, interviews and documentation and triangulation. Analysis is carried out by reviewing all the data, reducing the data, arranging the data in one unit (display data), and conclusion drawing/verification. The research results show that (1) there are two main strategies, namely by transforming environmental education and Islamic religious education as a whole. (2) Implementation of Islamic education with an environmental perspective towards a Green School is carried out through the first three activities: intracurricular, cocurricular, and extracurricular. (3) The supporting factors for implementing PAI with an environmental perspective are that the school community has the attitude that environmental education is important, the school community realizes that humans are part of the environment, the urge to save the environment, the existence of the adiwiyata program, and the adiwiyata school community. Inhibiting factors include the level of seriousness in maintaining the environment towards a Green School is different, there are not many environmentally friendly agents living towards a Green School, not all school residents are good towards their environment.
