Abstract

Controlling the population of mosquitoes that cause Dengue Fever is one of the efforts to reduce the incidence of dengue virus infection. The purpose of this service is to increase the knowledge and understanding of the community in areas with high cases in Palu City. It is hoped that by increasing knowledge, DHF cases in the region will decrease and reduce morbidity rates. The method used is socialization about vector control and understanding the clinical conditions of dengue fever to anticipate high mortality cases caused by dengue virus infection. By increasing knowledge about how to eradicate the vector that causes dengue fever, it is hoped that the community can eradicate the Aedes aegypti mosquito vector massively. The stages in increasing knowledge and implementing dengue vector control are the introduction of 3M plus, signs and symptoms of dengue fever, when to see a doctor or health center and initial treatment if dengue symptoms arise. It is hoped that these habits can be applied starting from the school and family environment. From the design above, it is hoped that the output of this activity is an increase in knowledge about how to control dengue vectors and can reduce morbidity and mortality in areas with high dengue cases.

Abstract

Abstract

Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) is a monogenic form of diabetes caused by single-gene mutations affecting insulin secretion, often presenting in young individuals. Mutations in the ABCC8 gene (MODY12), encoding the SUR1 subunit of the pancreatic β-cell K-ATP channel, are a known cause, though relatively rare (1-3% prevalence). This literature review summarized cases of ABCC8-MODY, detailing genetic/clinical features, differentiating it from Type 1 (T1DM) and Type 2 (T2DM) diabetes, and outlining treatments. A Google Scholar search (2020-2024) using keywords "ABCC8 gene," "diabetes," and "young age," followed by screening based on specific inclusion/exclusion criteria, yielded 7 relevant articles from an initial 1,010. The ABCC8 gene is crucial for insulin secretion via the K-ATP channel; mutations cause β-cell dysfunction and MODY12 with variable phenotypes. Misdiagnosis as T1DM/T2DM is frequent. Key MODY features include young onset (<25-35 years), strong family history, absence of pancreatic autoantibodies, persistent endogenous insulin production (detectable C-peptide), and often, high sensitivity to sulfonylureas (SUs). Accurate diagnosis requires meticulous history, clinical assessment, and definitive molecular genetic testing (e.g., NGS). Notably, patients with ABCC8-MODY typically respond well to SU therapy, making early, correct diagnosis vital for appropriate management. Identifying these genetic defects is paramount for distinguishing MODY from other diabetes types and optimizing patient care based on specific underlying pathophysiology and therapeutic responsiveness

Abstract

One occupation that is directly exposed to pesticides is farming. Although pesticides can increase the amount and quality of agricultural products, the cholinesterase enzyme's activity may be inhibited by the chemicals they contain. Acetylcholine is broken down in part by the cholinesterase enzyme. Acetylcholine will build up in the blood arteries if this enzyme is blocked, which may cause peripheral pressure to rise and lead to hypertension. Examining the prevalence of hypertension among farmers who had extensive pesticide exposure was the goal of this investigation. Purposive sampling combined with a cross-sectional design is the method used in this study. A total of fifty farmer samples were collected. Descriptive analysis is used in data analysis. According to the study's findings, the researchers' average blood pressure readings were 138/87 mmHg, with a standard deviation of 18.77 (TDS) and 12.99 (TDD). According to these findings, pre-hypertension has already occurred in most farmers who are often exposed to pesticides.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is still a global public health problem, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, including Indonesia as one of the dengue-endemic countries. Central Sulawesi is one of the endemic areas of dengue fever in Indonesia. DHF cases in Central Sulawesi Province are recorded to fluctuate every year and the morbidity rate tends to increase. In the Palu city area, Birobuli Selatan Village is the area with the highest cases, while in the Nunu Village, no dengue cases were detected. This research method is to use a questionnaire to look at the habits of people in areas with low cases and high cases in controlling disease vectors. Data analysis used the chi-square test. The research results showed that in the group of areas with high cases, there were differences in 3M habits (p=0.021), use of mosquito nets (p=0.000), plants around the house (p=0.000), and residential density (p<0.05). Meanwhile, there is no difference in the use of mosquito repellent and abate in the two regions. This research concludes that there are differences in people's habits regarding activities or activities in controlling mosquito vectors that cause dengue fever in areas with high cases and low cases
