Abstract

Instagram can be said to be a medium for displaying activities related to daily life such as uploading photos during holidays, when doing activities such as cooking and so on, or they can even upload things such as quoting words, songs and so on. The aim of this research is to find out the meaning of a second Instagram account for students. The data collection technique used in qualitative research is by using observation techniques, interviews. The results of this research are that users of the second account on the Instagram platform have the same goal, namely maintaining and connecting with friends or close friends from thereal world. They use second accounts in unique ways to maintain interpersonal relationships, especially by selecting the private feature to have control over who can become a follower. The friendship relationship in the second account is characterized by reciprocity and acceptance. Users use the second account as a comfort zone to share without worrying about judgment or hurt feelings from their followers. Abstract

Women's empowerment is an effort made by women to gain control over their lives. In films or drama series, women are often portrayed as passive beings, and it is not uncommon for films or drama series to depict how women are subordinated due to the operation of patriarchal culture in society. Women's access and movement are restricted, domestication is considered something natural, and women's opinions or voices are either not taken into account or ignored. The Gadis Kretek series offers an alternative idea, presenting empowered women. This study aims to describe how women's empowerment is portrayed in the Gadis Kretek series. It is a qualitative study using a critical paradigm. The research employs A.J. Greimas' narrative analysis method, which involves three models of analysis: actantial analysis, spatio-temporal isotopy, and the semiotic square. The theories used include muted-group theory, representation theory, and are supported by the liberal feminism perspective. The results of this study show that women have their own ways of gaining control over their lives, one of which is by having inner courage. The courage possessed by the main female character in the Gadis Kretek series, Dasiyah, drives her to keep pursuing her dreams. Dasiyah is portrayed as a woman who is different from other women of that time. She has modern ideas that clash with the norms of that era. Dasiyah has the courage to challenge societal and organizational cultures that disadvantage her as a woman. However, the series also illustrates how patriarchal culture still permeates various aspects of society, especially within the family and workplace. Therefore, Dasiyah’s process of achieving success and fulfilling her desires or dreams still involves the role of men. This demonstrates that men's voices carry more weight in decision-making compared to women's.

Abstract

Identitas ialah merupakan sebuah struktur konsep diri yang mencerminkan kita itu adalah siapa dan juga membuat individu itu mendapatkan sebuah gambaran yang terhubung dengan budaya yang dimilikinya kemudian dengan adanya sebuah identitas, orang lain dapat mengerti atau memahami siapa kita yang berdasarkan oleh gambaran yang kita gerakan terkait terhadap beberapa hal di antaranya, budaya, etnis dan juga ialah sebuah proses sosialisasi yang dilakukan. Film ini mengangkat topik mengenai homoseksual yang terdapat pada diri anak remaja laki – laki yang bernama Aris, dimana Aris harus bergulat dengan identitas dirinya, disamping itu hal ini membuat ibu dari Aris menganggapnya kutukan yang dipegang atau dipercayai oleh budaya di lingkungan Aris, kemudian Aris juga dipaksa menikah oleh ibunya dengan perempuan satu desa nya agar orientasi seksualnya tersebut bisa hilang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan juga mendeskripsikan identitas diri homoseksual yang dipresentasikan di dalam film “Pria” ini, selanjutnya di dukung dengan teori yang digunakan adalah teori identitas budaya dan negosiasi identitas, serta menggunakan metode analisis semiotika dari John Fiske yang kemudian akan menganalisis dengan tiga konsep yaitu level realitas, level representasi dan juga level ideologi. Hasil dari penelitian ini melalui representasi yang dihasilkan ialah menunjukkan adanya level – level yang membuat Aris tetap tidak berani dan takut dalam pengungkapan identitas dirinya termasuk kepada ibunya, calon mertuanya dan perempuan yang dijodohi oleh ibu dari Aris, hal ini juga sangat dibatasi oleh Aris untuk tidak ada satu pun orang yang mengetahui mengenai identitasnya tersebut dan hanya orang – orang tertentu saja, serta pola asuh yang diberikan oleh ibu dari Aris yang menganggap homoseksual itu ialah kutukan, sehingga pada akhirnya Aris tetap mengikuti kemauan dari ibunya yaitu menikah dengan wanita yang dijodohi.
