Abstract

The mass media has the power to disseminate information related to Covid-19 quickly and widely. In addition, peer group interaction and education level also contribute to determining the direction of the attitude of its members. This study aims to determine the relationship between exposure to Covid-19 news, the intensity of peer group interactions, education level and public attitudes towards Covid-19 sufferers. This study uses social learning theory and social category theory to determine the hypothesis. This study uses non-random sampling by means of grab sampling. The number of samples studied was 50 people, domiciled in the city of Semarang, following the news of Covid-19 and aged between 20-50 years. The results of the hypothesis test with multiple correlations show the number 0.165, which means that there is no simultaneous relationship between the variables of exposure to Covid-19 news, the intensity of peer group interactions and public attitudes towards Covid-19 sufferers. Through these findings, in order to create an attitude towards Covid-19 sufferers, it is suggested that the public does not need to worry about news related to Covid-19 sufferers, and the government, in this case as a communicator, needs to create a campaign strategy with a peer-led approach as an effort to encourage the public to not rejecting Covid-19 patient.

Abstract

In a family, both the mother and father’s roles are equally important. A father's role goes beyond being the breadwinner or the head of the family; he is also expected to play a complete role in supporting a child's development and sharing responsibilities with the mother as a wife. When a father doesn't fulfill his role effectively, the issue of "fatherless" arises in the family, which has long-term impacts on the child, including a daughter's perception of her future life partner. Previous research has shown that the absence of a father's role at home (fatherlessness) can influence how a child interacts and shapes a child's preferences in choosing a partner or determining their romantic relationships. This study, employing phenomenology and in-depth interviews with four female informants who have experienced fatherlessness, draws on family communication, attachment theory, penetration theory, and gender role theory. The research findings highlight that the experience of fatherlessness becomes a major communication barrier, affecting the informants in initiating romantic relationships. Respondents express difficulties in trusting and maintaining open communication with close friends. They state that disappointment in their father figure leads them to seek a partner to fulfill their psychological needs related to the missing fatherly figure. The study also confirms factors influencing the perceptions of fatherless daughters in choosing life partners, including a father's involvement in child-rearing, healthy communication between father and child, traumatic experiences, and current parent-child communication relationships. This research can serve as a reference for further studies interested in examining family communication from the perspective of the father's role and the communication between daughters and their fathers.

Abstract

The world of Hollywood films often presents Muslim identity as a secondary group related to acts of terrorism. This is due to several events in the past such as the events of September 9 2001. Since then Muslims have received a lot of discrimination from American society and are seen as a cruel and violent identity. After 21 years have passed, a superhero series by Marvel has emerged, namely Ms. Marvel. This series is a bold breakthrough from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) because it promotes Muslim identity as the main character. The aim of this research is to find out how Muslims are represented in the Ms. Marvel. This research uses qualitative research methods with a constructivism paradigm. The theory used in this series is Identity Negotiation Theory proposed by Stella Ting-Tomey using John Fiske's semiotic analysis method. The results of this research show that Muslim identity is displayed positively but still only partially. Positive Muslims can be seen through the depiction of Muslims as an identity that is equal to other cultural identities. This equality can be seen through various aspects such as camera angles that use eye level angles, the appointment of Muslims as main characters, and the friendship between Kamala and Bruno. Apart from that, positive Muslims are also depicted through aspects of the characterization of Muslim characters that seem humorous, dialogue that is not related to terrorism, as well as other aspects such as worship gestures that reflect a religious nature. However, unfortunately this depiction is still partial because Kamala's character is depicted as not wearing a hijab. The hijab is a mandatory attribute for a Muslim woman, but in this series, Kamala is shown wearing the hijab in only a few scenes. Suggestions for further research are to examine how Muslim identity is linked to other American minority identities such as Jews, blacks, Asians and others, using other semiotic analysis methods such as Umberto Eco or Roland Barthes.

Findings from interviews with five respondents, both male and female, with varying experiences related to sexual violence, reveal diverse interpretations of the openness of sexual violence survivors. Two non-survivors have differing dominant and negotiated interpretations, though they agree that the portrayal of sexual violence survivors in Photocopier (2021) mirrors reality. On the other hand, two sexual violence survivors and one close associate of a survivor hold opposing interpretations. They believe that the portrayal of open survivors in the film does not align with reality. Finally, all five respondents agree with the depiction of other elements, such as characterizations and the attitudes of perpetrators, the survivors' close associates, and authorities, and believe that these elements reflect reality.

Abstract

Gone Girl is a film produced in 2014 and is an adaptation of a best-selling novel by  Gillian  Flynn. Gone Girl can be divided into three parts. The interesting point in this movie is the gender  focus of Gillian Flynn s way in depicting Amy. According to her, this is an attempt to show that woman can have a criminal mind as a man. However, the depiction of woman in patriarch charasteristic is still can be found in the movie. This research is to find out how the movie Gone Girl failed to create a new woman character. This study uses the postmodernism theory to explain. Result of this study indicates that the figure of Amy Dunne is described as a heroine with typical utopia and as a villain  Amy  can  not  be  separated  from  the  feminines  roles  of  patriarch.   Among  others:  weak, emotional human being, depending and using her body as a weapon.
