Abstract

The importance of developing border areas as one of the programs run by the government must be supported by existing potential. Livestock is one of the largest contributors to income for the community in Napan Village. The absence of a location as a potential for developing livestock barns in Napan Village is a problem. Therefore, it is necessary to determine whether the area has a potential for developing livestock barns in Napan Village. This study includes mixed-method research and methods using forum group discussions (FGD) and IDW. Key informants are the Head of Napan Village and the community. The conclusion of this study shows that the development of livestock barns in Napan Village is quite large because it is supported by the number and types of diverse livestock and the community agrees to develop livestock barns there. The location for developing livestock barns is obtained as wide as 2.11 km2. This great potential can give Napan Village the potential for development in border areas, especially in the field of livestock. In addition, to overcome the problem of illegal livestock sales, it is necessary to build surveillance posts in border areas so that the number of incidents can be suppressed.

Abstract

Waste management remains a significant environmental challenge in Oesapa Barat Village, Kota Kupang, where proper handling systems and community awareness have not kept pace with the annual increase in waste volume. Low participation in waste sorting and the absence of structured waste utilization have contributed to environmental degradation. This community engagement program aimed to enhance public awareness and skills in managing organic waste through educational activities and hands-on training. The program was delivered using presentations, group discussions, demonstrations, and direct practice on transforming organic waste into compost and maggot feed as part of a circular economy model. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants' understanding of waste impacts, the benefits of organic recycling, and the economic opportunities from maggot cultivation. Approximately 70% of participants expressed willingness to apply simple waste-processing techniques at home. These findings suggest that education-based interventions are effective in encouraging community participation and behavioral change toward sustainable waste management. This program is expected to initiate long-term ecological awareness and inspire independent waste management practices at the household and community levels. Therefore, the activity serves as both a preventive and practical model for organic waste management in local environments.

Abstract

Malaka Regency, which borders Timor-Leste, faces challenges in utilizing its natural resources, thus requiring learning media to explore local potential. This study aims to develop a learning booklet based on local renewable energy sources and test its effectiveness. This study employed a research and design model developed by Borg and Gall. For analysis, N-Gain was used to evaluate pre-test and post-test results, involving 98 eighth-grade students and 27 social studies teachers in the dissemination stage. The results showed a significant increase in student understanding with an N-Gain of 0.6647 (66.47%), which is considered effective. A paired t-test revealed a highly significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.001), with an effect size (Cohen's d = 2.568) indicating a substantial impact. 78.15% of teachers considered the booklet suitable for classroom use. These findings indicate that the developed booklet is effective and pedagogically appropriate.

Abstract

The large number of people who occupy, control, and cultivate areas in conservation forest areas illegally, for subsistence or commercial purposes without paying attention to statutory regulations, is a problem in the Watu Ata Nature Reserve. Even though the government already has a social forestry program that collaborates with communities regarding forest management. This research aims to determine the location, and factors that influence the occurrence of illegal land use in the Watu Ata nature reserve area, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency. The sample used a spatial sample, namely locations of illegal land use and 60 squatter communities. This research method uses multiple regression analysis and spatial interpolation. The results of this research show that economic factors, social factors, and environmental factors influence the impact of encroachment. The low level of illegal occupation is in Langagedha Village and the high level is in Wawowae Village and Jawameze Village. Recommendations from this research are that Wawowae Village, with an area of 132.77 hectares in Wawowae Village can be used as a location for social forestry.
