Abstract

Introduction: Breastfeeding is a natural event for a woman. However, breastfeeding problems that often arise in the early postpartum period (puerperal or lactation period) are breast engorgement. Breast engorgement is a blockage of milk due to the narrowing of the lactiferous ducts or by glands that are not emptied. The impact that will be caused if the breast milk dam is not resolved, namely mastitis and breast abscess, will occur. The use of cabbage or cabbage leaf compresses can be a non-pharmacological treatment. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of cabbage leaf compresses on breast swelling in postpartum mothers. The research method used is a quasi-experimental design. Method: The design used is Posttest Only Control Group Design. The sample of this study was postpartum mothers who experienced breast swelling in TPMB in the Ciamis Health Center Working Area. The number of respondents was 30 postpartum mothers who were divided into 2 groups (intervention and control groups). Each group consisted of 15 postpartum mothers. Result: The results of the statistical tests using the Mann Whitney U test p-value were 0.000, which means that cabbage leaf compresses affect breast swelling in postpartum mothers in TPMB in the Ciamis Health Center Working Area. Conclusion: There is an effect of cabbage leaf compresses on breast swelling in post-partum mothers with a P-value of 0.000.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Initiation Early Breastfeeding has been proven to reduce neonatal mortality. The practice of initiating breastfeeding within the first hour of birth, known as Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF) benefits both the mothers and their children. It reduces mortality among infants through increased exclusive breastfeeding and associated mechanisms by allowing the infants to get the highly nutritious maternal colostrum that reduces the risk of microbial translocation, accelerates intestinal maturation and promotes resistance to infection. EIBF also reduces the risk of hypothermia and helps develop bonding between mother and baby through close physical contact. Method: The method used in writing this article is a review of the results study which related with factors influencing the implementation early initiation of breastfeeding in mother’s materials. Result: Five studies wich analyzed in literature reviews this form factors influencing the implementation early initiation of breastfeeding in mother’s materials. Conclusion: Many kinds of factors influencing the implementation early initiation of breastfeeding in mother’s materials. There are education, type of birth, knowledge, attitude, support from health workers, parity, family support, habits, midwife knowledge, midwife support, midwife training and skin-to-skin contact between mother and infant immediately after birth.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction & Objective: Preeclampsia and eclampsia remain significant health issues contributing to high maternal and perinatal mortality rates, particularly in developing countries. Preeclampsia, characterized by hypertension, edema, and proteinuria during pregnancy, affects 2% to 8% of pregnancies globally and is a major cause of maternal and fetal death. This study aims to review the current management strategies for preeclampsia to prevent its progression into eclampsia and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes. Method: A literature review was conducted using secondary data sources. Articles were obtained through systematic searches in databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar, using keywords like "Management" and "Preeclampsia" from publications between 2020 and 2024 in English and Indonesian. Results: Management of preeclampsia involves several key components: blood pressure control using antihypertensives such as nifedipine and methyldopa; seizure prevention through magnesium sulfate administration; decision-making regarding timing and mode of delivery; careful fluid management to avoid pulmonary edema; nutritional management focusing on sodium restriction and balanced diet; physical activity to lower gestational hypertension risk; and long-term follow-up due to increased cardiovascular risk post-preeclampsia. The literature indicates that a combination of interventions is more effective than single therapy approaches. Conclusion: Comprehensive management of preeclampsia is essential to prevent disease progression and ensure favorable outcomes for both mother and child. Integrated short- and long-term strategies are necessary to improve maternal safety and long-term health quality.
