Abstract

Background: Health literacy can play an important role in the quality of the provided care since patients with T2DM need long-term and high level of complex care. Inadequate literacy patients with DM related to less knowledge about diabetes and poorer health outcome. Objective: This study aimed to examine health literacy among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and its related factors. Methods: This study used cross sectional design. The respondents recruited with a convenience sampling in outpatient internal medicine department in a hospital located in Sleman regency from September 2017 to January 2018. The Charlson Comorbidity Index and the European Health Literacy Survey - Questionnaire 47 were employ. Data analysis involved descriptive and bivariate analysis. Results: A hundred and fifty two subjects enrolled in this research. The average score of health literacy was 29.5 (SD = 3.4). Factors related with health literacy were total number of complications (r = -.26; p = .001), education (p = .010) and monthly income (p = .000). Conclusion: Problematic health literacy has been found to be prevailing in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Total number of complications, education, and monthly income were significantly correlated with health literacy in this population.

Abstract

Several models have been developed to provide support for patient self-management to control their blood glucose. Peer support intervention believed to bring positive impact on glycemic control in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this review was to identify the effect of several peer support interventions on glycemic control among adult with type 2 diabetes mellitus. An integrative search was conducted in electronic databased Pub Med, CINALH, and Cochrane. The inclusion criteria of studies included were employed peer support intervention, randomized control trial in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus, glycemic control as outcome, English language, published in last 10 years, and available in free full text. Seven studies met the inclusion criteria and included in the further analysis. Five studies reported peer support intervention found statistically significant to improve glycemic control through decreasing HbA1c level. Short term peer support intervention provide potential benefit on glycemic control.

Abstract

Posyandu cadres in Padukuhan Tiyasan Condongcatur are part of increasing the success of stunting reduction in Sleman Regency. The cadre problems are limited knowledge about stunting and nutritious food sources for toddlers and the lack of cadre skills in processing locally-based foods. This service activity's implementation methods are education, training, and mentoring. There are two main stages in implementing the program, the first stage of stunting education and an explanation of nutritious food for toddlers. The second stage is cadre training to process catfish nuggets with a "zero waste" approach. Utilization and optimization sources of regional potential are the advantages of this program. Catfish is a good animal protein source, low price, and easy to cultivate in the Tiyasan. The complete nutritional content in catfish is an alternative to high nutritional nuggets for supplementary feeding for toddlers. It can be concluded that this program is increased the knowledge of cadres about stunting and nutritious food for stunting toddlers, as well as increased the skills of cadres in processing catfish for toddlers' supplementary feeding.

Abstract

Empowerment of cadres in utilizing local resources to reduce blood sugar levels of residents with type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the important things in controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this community service is to empower cadres in diversifying processed ginger to reduce blood sugar levels. The implementation method is carried out in three stages. The results showed that the knowledge of cadres increased after education and demonstrations about DM management and ginger processing were carried out. The conclusion of this activity is education and demonstration to posyandu cadres in Ngabean Kulon Hamlets provides good benefits in facilitating the development of the role of cadres in efforts to increase knowledge and management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Diabetes melitus tipe 2 merupakan suatu penyakit metabolik dengan karakteristik atau ciri khusus hiperglikemia. Diabetes Melitus dapat mempengaruhi kualitas hidup pasien hingga membutuhkan perawatan medis berkelanjutan. Oleh karena itu, penderita harus mampu menjalankan self-management atau manajemen diri yang baik. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran self-management pasien dengan diabetes melitus tipe 2 di salah satu rumah sakit swasta di Klaten. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitiaan deskriptif kuantitatif, dengan menggunakan instrumen The Diabetes Self-management Questionnaire (DSMQ) untuk mengukur self-management diabetes. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 40 pasien DM yang datang di poliklinik Rumah Sakit. Hasil: Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memiliki self-management baik (85%) dengan skor rata – rata masing – masing domain diet (7,12), management glukosa (7,93), aktivitas fisik (8,13), penggunaan layanan kesehatan (7,25). Dari keempat domain self-management, domain aktivitas fisik paling baik diantara keempat domain yang ada, sedangkan untuk domain diet paling buruk diantara keempat domain yang ada. Simpulan: Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar pasien dengan diabetes mellitus tipe 2 memiliki self-management yang baik.

Abstract

Stress is important because it is associated with many persistent diseases, including diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes mellitus are not the only ones whose blood sugar levels can increase in response to stress. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between stress and fluctuating blood sugar levels. This study was a cross-sectional study of 150 patients diagnosed with type 2 DM. Data were collected from October to November 2020 in the outpatient department of a private hospital. The inclusion criteria for respondents were at least 18 years of age, in stable condition, not diagnosed with psychosis. Respondents' stress levels were assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and random blood glucose levels were measured using a glucometer. A total of 81 respondents were female (54%), had low education (53.9%), and were unemployed (75.3%). There was a significant relationship between perceived stress and random blood glucose levels (p = 0.047). Perceived stress had a significant relationship with random blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Despite the growing popularity of the mobile health application, the application that addressed to calculated diabetes risk is still limited. DiaCal was developed to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus by screening and early detection approach. This study aimed to develop and examine the usability of DiaCal smartphone application-based education. This study was conducted with a cross-sectional approach. The framework of this application is based on the American Diabetes Association diabetes risk screening instrument. The development of the DiaCal was divided into three phases: preparation, design, and piloting. System Usability Testing (SUS) instruments used to examine the user-level acceptance of this application. DiaCal app developed in android platform core modules: a) data entry, b) conversion and calculation, c) output of the risk assessment, d) education. Twenty respondents were recruited in this study to evaluate DiaCal through SUS instrument. The average adjective range score is 85.25 which indicates that the DiaCal application is in the “excellent” category and the grade level scale is in “A+”. This study showed a significant usability and acceptability of DiaCal in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: Breakfast is one of the internal factors that can affect the learning process and also affect academic achievement. Students who skip breakfast have negative effects such as fatigue, slow reaction time, and cognitive decline. The frequency of breakfast has a significant impact on the physiological health and activation of brain function, which is correlated with academic achievement. Objective: This study aimed to identify the relationship between breakfast habits and academic achievement in second-year vocational nursing students. Methods: This study used cross sectional design. The respondents recruited with a total sampling. Data were collected in November 2021. A total of 45 were participated in this study with inclusion criteria second year students, could fill google form and willing to participated in this study. Results: Eleven students (24%) had breakfast every day. There is no relationship between breakfast habits and academic achievement in second-year vocational nursing students (p > 0.05). But the grade point average is slightly higher in students who take breakfast regularly (mean = 3.50). Conclusion: There is no relationship between breakfast habits and academic achievement in second-year vocational nursing students.

Abstract

Abstrak:Stunting menjadi masalah prioritas mitra yang ditangani. Dapur balita di RW 12 belum terbentuk. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah pemberdayaan kelompok DASHAT di RW 12 dan peluncuran dapur balita untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan gizi mitra. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan sebagai upaya pencegahan kejadian stunting yang masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat di Indonesia. Metode pengabdian meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan pembuatan Makanan Pendamping ASI 4 bintang, eduaksi gizi 8000 Hari Pertama Kehidupan dan pelatihan pengukuran anthropometri panjang badan, tinggi badan, dan LiLA. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah kader Posyandu Widosari 12 yang berjumlah 6 orang dan menjadi bagian dari kelompok DASHAT. Hasil dari kegiatan adalah terbentuknya kelompok DASHAT sebanyak 20 orang, launching dapur balita di Posyandu Widosari 12 dengan nomor registrasi 180, kelompok DASHAT dapat membuat dua menu MPASI 4 bintang, kelompok DASHAT mengalami peningkatan pengetahuan gizi 32,26%, keterampilan pengukuran panjang badan 9,59%, keterampilan pengukuran tinggi badan 2,48%, dan keterampilan pengukuran LiLA 74,8%. Terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pengetahuan gizi dan keterampilan pengukuran panjang badan dan LiLA antara sebelum dan setelah diberikan edukasi dan pelatihan pada kelompok DASHAT.Abstract: Stunting is a priority problem for partners to handle. The toddler kitchen in RW 12 has not yet been formed. The aim of this community service activity is to empower the DASHAT group in RW 12 and launch a toddler kitchen to increase partners' nutritional knowledge and skills. This activity was carried out as an effort to prevent stunting which is still a public health problem in Indonesia. Service methods include socialization, training in making 4 star complementary foods for breast milk, nutritional education for the First 8000 Days of Life and training in anthropometric measurements of body length, height and MUAC. The partners for this activity are Posyandu Widosari 12 cadres, totaling 6 people and who are part of the DASHAT group. The results of the activities were the formation of a DASHAT group of 20 people, the launching of a toddler kitchen at Posyandu Widosari 12 with registration number 180, the DASHAT group was able to create two 4 star MPASI menus, The DASHAT group experienced an increase in nutritional knowledge of 32.26%, body length measurement skills of 9.59%, height measurement skills of 2.48%, and LiLA measurement skills of 74.8%.There were significant differences in nutritional knowledge and skills in measuring body length and LiLA between before and after being given education and training in the DASHAT group.
