Abstract

Abstract

Background: Rice serves as a fundamental dietary component for Indonesians, therefore several complete high-nutrition analogue rice developed. The composite flour used in this study is based on breadfruit flour, with the addition of anchovies to enhance the nutritional content in the formula. Objectives: To determine the chemical and physical characteristics of analogue rice based on breadfruit flour and anchovies. Methods: Experimental research with a one-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Four treatments consisted of (0%, 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5%) addition of anchovies in analogue rice formula and three replication treatments. Chemical tests consisting of water, ash, fat, protein, and carbohydrate content. Physical tests included rice density, cooking time, water holding capacity (WHC), 1000 grain weight, and hardness level. Data analysis was performed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Post Hoc Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results: Anchovies improve ash and protein, decrease fat and are not significantly different to carbohydrate and energy compared to the control. Analogue rice contained 4.94-8.41% protein. The water content meets the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) with a maximum limit of 14%. This study's formulation reduced WHC and increased bulk density. Cooking time, 1000 grain weight, and hardness level were not different compared to the control. The cooking time of analogue rice ranged from 15-16 minutes, and the weight of 1000 grains ranged from 16.33-17.57 g. Conclusions: Anchovies in the analogue rice formula result in higher protein, lower fat, and carbohydrates compared to the control. The moisture content of the analogue rice meets SNI.

Abstract

One of the health problems experienced by patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is poor sleep quality. Poor sleep quality is an important factor in poor blood sugar regulation. This study aims to determine the predictors of sleep quality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at a private hospital in Yogyakarta. This research was conducted using a cross sectional approach on 150 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who were recruited at the Endocrine Clinic at a private hospital in Yogyakarta. The questionnaires used in this research were demographic data questionnaires, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis was carried out using Multiple hierarchical linear regression. The research results show that the average stress score of respondents in this study was 16.13 (SD = 4.59), which is in the medium category. Global PSQI showed that respondents experienced poor sleep quality (mean = 5.33, SD = 1.79). The Perceived Stress Scale score contributed 23.6% to the sleep quality score. The higher the respondent's stress level, the lower the respondent's sleep quality. Nurses can develop interventions to improve the sleep quality of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

Abstract

There are many factors that trigger complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Some of them are age, body mass index, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and smoking. However, there are still inconsistent research results related to random blood sugar levels and duration of suffering with diabetes complications. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between random blood sugar levels and duration of suffering of diabetes with diabetes complications. This study is a correlational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach involving 150 respondents. Respondents were recruited using a purposive sampling method. Data collection used a demographic data questionnaire and random blood sugar measurements result. The finding of this study indicated that most respondents were women, had low education, and were 59 years old on average. There was no relationship between random blood sugar levels and diabetes complications. There was a significant relationship between duration of suffering with diabetes complications (p = .000). Nurses are expected to be able to provide appropriate interventions as the duration of the patient's illness increases so that patients can manage their condition better.

Abstract

ackground: Poor sleep quality is a prevalent symptom reported by type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, and with impaired glycemic control, decreased quality of life, psychological distress, and an increased risk of diabetes-related complications. Sleep disturbances may also negatively affect treatment adherence and daily functioning. Despite its clinical significance, a culturally adapted and validated instrument for assessing sleep quality in Indonesian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus remains limited. To address the existing literature gap, this study translated and adapted the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Indonesia and evaluated its validity and reliability. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive design using a cross-sectional approach. The translation and cultural adaptation process followed recommended guidelines, including translation, expert panel review, and pilot testing. Content validity was assessed by a panel of experts. Reliability testing was conducted using Cronbach’s alpha to assess internal consistency. A convenience sample of 140 adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus completed the instrument. Results: The item content validity and a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient were 1 and 0.712, respectively. The findings demonstrated that the Indonesian version of the PSQI-I had satisfactory validity and reliability. The content validity index indicated good relevance. The overall Cronbach’s alpha indicates acceptable internal consistency reliability. Conclusion: Bahasa Indonesia version of the PSQI (PSQI-I) is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing sleep quality among Indonesian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This instrument may be used in clinical and nursing practice, as well as in future research, to evaluate sleep-related problems in this population.
