Abstract

This research aimed to know the influence of visualization strategy towards students' reading comprehension on narrative text. The writer used quantitative method and categorized the research as quasi experimental method. The population was 246 from 8 classes. The writer used Cluster Random Sampling Technique in taking the sample. There were 2 classes as a sample. X1 was an experiment class and X2 was a control class. The experiment class consisted of 32 students and control class consisted of 34 students. The main technique in measuring students’ reading comprehension was multiple choice which consisted of 40 items with 5 options a, b, c, d and e. The score of each item is 2,5 for correct answer. In calculating the data analysis, the writer used t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, the average score of experimental class was 81,94 and the average score of control class was 73,25 which means the average score of experimental class was higher than control class. The writer got that Ha was accepted. It was obtained that ttest = 3,73 and ttable 0,05 = 2,00 and 0,01 = 2,66 (3,73 > 2,00 < 2,66). It means that there was a significant influence of Visualization strategy towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2022/2023.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to improve students’ reading comprehension and their learning activities by using the Cloze Strategy. In this research, the writer used Classroom Action Research as the design of the research. This research was implemented in two cycles. The sample of this research was 30 students. To get the data, the writers used observation sheet and a reading test. The test used in this research was a closed-end question, which consisted of 25 questions. The test was aimed at getting the score of the students’ reading comprehension; meanwhile, an observation sheet was used to find out the students’ learning activities. The result of the test showed that there was an improvement of the students’ reading abilities and learning activities. It was found that the students’ reading ability in cycle 1 was 57.07 while in cycle 2 was 80.53, and it was found that the score of the students’ learning activities in cycle 1 was 6.19 while in the cycle 2 was 7.85. Therefore, the implementation of the Cloze Strategy was successful to be used in improving the students’ reading comprehension and the students’ learning activities.

Abstract

This research aimed to know the influence of about point strategy towards students' reading comprehension. The writer used quantitative method and categorized the research as quasi experimental method. The writer used 2 classes for experiment class and control class. Cluster Random Sampling Technique was used in taking the sample. The experiment class consisted of 32 students and control class consisted of 34 students. In collecting the data, the writer used reading comprehension test. To know the influence, the writer used t-test formula. It was found that rcount (3, 73) > rtable (1, 98) in level 5% and rcount (3, 73) > rtable (2, 65) in level 1%. It can be concluded that there was positive influence of About-Point strategy towards students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the lexical cohesion used in students’ writing, and to find out the highest frequency of lexical ties in students’ writing. In conducting the research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher uses a documentation to collect the data. The data are the students’ scientific writing tasks on fifth semester at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses the procedure such as recording the data in the data card, categorizing the data based on the types of lexical cohesion, summing up the total number of lexical cohesion frequencies, describing the data and drawing conclusion. The result shows that the types of lexical cohesion in students’ writing are repetition, synonymy, antonymy, and meronymy. Repetiton becomes the prominent types of lexical cohesion used in students’ writing. Meanwhile the hyponymy is the lowest frequency of occurrence in their writings

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze about superstition as one of the characteristics of Chinese literature and how superstition is part of patriarchal agenda in oppressing women depicted in Ling Shuhua’s “Mid-Autumn Eve” translated by Marie Chan. Superstition is often manifested in Asian literature because it is part of Asian culture. By analyzing Ling Shuhua’s “The Mid-autumn Eve”, the research finds out that modern Chinese society still believes in the superstition, such as “harmony duck” that symbolizing the prosperity and eternal love; for instance, how the couple who eat the “harmony duck” in the Mid-autumn festival will live together forever. Therefore, T’ai-t’ai forces her husband to eat the duck because she is afraid that his failure in eating the duck will be an ill omen for their marriage. Through feminist perspective, superstition can lead women to fall into the trap of patriarchy. By believing in superstition, women are associated with ignorance, stupidity, and weak that needs to be excluded in men’s matter, such as decision making. In the case of Cheng-jen for instance, by letting T’ai-t’ai, her wife, takes a decision that is based on superstition, Cheng-jen faces big regret in his life; he cannot be together with his foster sister before she dies

Abstract

This study examines the application of deep learning strategies in mathematics education to enhance student engagement and conceptual mastery at a higher education institution in Lampung, Indonesia. Traditional teaching methods, which often focus on rote memorization and procedural fluency, are limited in fostering critical problem-solving skills and deeper conceptual understanding. This research investigates how deep learning strategies such as active learning, collaborative problem-solving, and self-regulated learning can bridge these gaps. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative data from the Deep Learning Engagement Questionnaire (DLEQ) with qualitative insights from focus group discussions, reflective journals, and interviews with lecturers. Interactive tools like GeoGebra were also incorporated to support the learning process. The findings indicate that deep learning strategies significantly improved student engagement, motivation, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving abilities. Students demonstrated better application of mathematical concepts in practical settings, and lecturers observed improved student performance. This study concludes that the integration of deep learning principles into mathematics education significantly enhances learning outcomes and equips students with the skills needed to navigate real-world challenges. These findings provide meaningful implications for curriculum developers, educators, and policymakers in fostering sustainable, student-centered learning environments within higher education.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve the students’ reading comprehension by using the Know Want Learn (KWL) strategy. The objectives of this research were to investigate whether the integration of the Know Want Learn (KWL) strategy in the Zoom conference can improve the students’ reading comprehension and identify the students' perception of using the KWL Strategy in the Zoom conference. In this research, the researchers used classroom action research as the research design in collecting the data. The research was conducted in three cycles. The samples of this research were 30 students. The researchersemployedquestionnaire, observation and test for the data collecting technique. The test used in this research was reading test consisted of 25 questions. The researchers used descriptive analysis for analyzing the data. The findings of this research show that the integration of the Know Want Learn (KWL) strategy in the Zoom conference successful to improve students’ reading comprehension and reading activity. The improvement of students’ reading comprehension can be concluded from the mean score of the pre-test is 65.42and the mean score of the post-test is 85.49. Moreover, there are 26% (8) students who show moderate perception, 24% (7) students offer positive perceptions, and 50% (15) students show very positive perceptions.Furthermore, the combination of KWL Strategy and Zoom conference can help students achieve the learning target. The students can get many benefits from using this combination to study English. They also can conduct an effective teaching-learning activity in a modern way even though they are not allowed to attend the face-to-face classroom.
