Abstract

Background: Coughing is a natural defense mechanism that helps clear the respiratory tract of irritants and pathogens. In addition to being a necessary physiological reflex, coughing can also be caused by diseases that attack the respiratory tract, such as tuberculosis, asthma, pneumonia, acute respiratory infections, and other respiratory diseases. Transmission of the disease occurs when an infected person releases these droplets, which can be inhaled by others. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of flip chart-based health education in improving children's knowledge about coughing and sneezing etiquette. Method: Pre-experimental quantitative research design with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The sample was selected through total sampling involving Al-Huda Elementary School, Jember. This research was conducted in October-December 2024. The independent variable in this study is the use of flip charts, while the dependent variable is knowledge of cough etiquette. The instrument used was a questionnaire on knowledge of coughing and sneezing etiquette consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions. Results:  The average age of the participants was 8.4 years with a standard deviation of 1.0 in the age range of 7-10 years. The number of male and female participants had the same percentage of 12 participants (50%). The average pre-test score was 55.8 with a standard deviation of 25.7, while the post-test score increased to 75.0. Statistical calculations revealed a z value of -3.7 and a significance level (2-tailed) of less than 0.001. This indicates a significant increase in knowledge of cough etiquette pre-post test. Conclusion: Flip chart media is an effective educational tool to improve children's knowledge about coughing and sneezing etiquette. By providing structured, interesting, and visually appealing content, flip charts improve learning outcomes and contribute to the implementation of better health behaviors.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Culture lifeways, Edukasi, Luka perineum, Masa nifas ABSTRACT Background: Perineal wounds are a common health problem experienced by mothers during the postpartum period, especially as a result of vaginal delivery. Many postpartum mothers still experience delayed perineal wound healing due to suboptimal self-care. Delayed wound healing can increase the risk of infection, cause prolonged pain, and interfere with the mother’s activities in caring for the baby.Purpose: To analyze the effect of culture lifeways-based midwifery education on the duration of perineal wound healing. Methods: This research used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of all postpartum mothers with perineal wounds, with a total sample of 32 postpartum mothers selected through purposive sampling. The study was conducted at TPMB Riesma Dwi Mayantie in June–July 2024. Data were collected using observation sheets and standard operating procedures for culture lifeways-based midwifery education. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon sign rank test. Results: Before receiving culture lifeways-based midwifery education, most respondents (25 postpartum mothers, 78.1%) showed moderate healing. After the intervention, most respondents (24 postpartum mothers, 75%) demonstrated good healing. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon sign rank test showed a p-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05.Conclusion: Culture lifeways-based midwifery education has a significant effect on the duration of perineal wound healing in postpartum mothers.Recommendation: Culture lifeways-based midwifery education should be implemented in midwifery care services as it is proven effective in accelerating wound healing. Keywords: Culture lifeways, Education, Perineal wound, Postpartum period

Abstract

Kata Kunci: ASI, Ibu Nifas, Konseling, Manajemen Laktasi, Pengeluaran ASI ABSTRACT Background: The postpartum period is a crucial phase in a woman's reproductive process, marked by the recovery of body organs and the initiation of breastfeeding. However, in reality, many postpartum mothers experience difficulties in breast milk (ASI) production, especially during the first 1–7 days after delivery. This disruption can hinder the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: To analyze the effect of lactation management counseling on the smoothness of breast milk production in postpartum mothers.Method: This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 postpartum mothers on days 1 to 7 who visited TPMB Siti Mutmainnah were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. Results: The findings showed that before counseling, 66.7% of mothers experienced insufficient milk production, and after counseling, the proportion of mothers with smooth milk flow increased to 70%. The Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test showed a p-value of 0.001 < α = 0.05, indicating a significant effect of lactation management counseling on breast milk production. The counseling included education on breastfeeding techniques, milk stimulation, and psychological support, helping mothers increase their confidence. Conclusion: Lactation management counseling has a significant and effective impact on improving breast milk production among postpartum mothers.Recommendation: Health workers are encouraged to provide regular lactation counseling from pregnancy through the postpartum period to enhance the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Keywords: Breast Milk, Postpartum Mothers, Counseling, Lactation Management, Milk Production
